Happy Christmas Everyone
Long long ago, beneath the snows silver light, the badgers prepared for
a magical night. Their sett was aglow with a soft golden gleam, as snowflakes above wove a wintery dream.
Dear Mother Badger, with wisdom and care, had hung ivy sprigs in the sett everywhere. “Tonight,” she explained, “we’ll see wonders unfold, a gift from the forest more precious than gold.”
The cubs gathered close, with their paws tucked in tight, while stars overhead sparkled dazzlingly bright. Young Ru, the boldest, had one question to pose, “What gift can the forest give us, through the snows?”
“Hush now,” said Father, “you’ll soon understand. The forest has secrets, both mysterious and grand. But first, let us feast! There is no time to delay, Christmas Eve magic is well on its way.”
They dined on fresh berries and nuts they had found, while frost painted crystals on the world all around. Then, with a rustle, a whisper, a breeze, the forest itself seemed to brighten with ease.
“Look!” cried young Ru, “The snow shines like fire!” and there in the clearing, a glow rose up higher. A stag stood before them, his antlers agleam, his eyes full of wisdom, like out of a dream.
“Good badgers,” he said, “it’s the night of good cheer, a time for all creatures to hold their clan near. The forest has sent me to bring you this light, a beacon of hope through the long winter’s night.”
The stag stomped the earth, and there in its place, sprang a holly bush shining with berries like lace. “This gift,” said the stag, “is a sign of our bond, a promise that love stretches far and beyond.”
The badgers all bowed as the stag slipped away, his glow softly fading like the close of the day. There in their sett, snug and safe from the cold, they hung precious holly, a sight to behold.
So, each Christmas Eve, when the snow starts to fall, the badgers remember the gift meant for all. For deep in the woods, where the cold winds may blow, the Ivy and holly still silently grow.
