We rely on people contacting us with information on setts and badger activity so please do get in touch. Cornwall is a large area to cover so If you could to be part of our network of helpers, mainly verifying road casualties/reports, please let us know.

Badger Trust has provided training for police forces in England and Wales since 2017.

The training ensures that police officers arriving at a scene know how to identify a badger sett and any evidence of badger crime, and the training has been credited in recent success stories.

Badger crime is prolific in all areas of the country with crimes from badger baiting to sett blocking remaining prevalent long after the Protection of Badgers Act was established.

It is estimated that thousands of badgers fall victim to wildlife crime every year, and very few criminals are ever brought to justice💔

Did you know?🤔 A badger’s sense of smell is 800 times stronger than ours, and it plays a vital role in communication!

Their scent information is distributed through techniques known as squat marking (dipping their rear and lifting their tails) and allo-marking (marking each other) 🦡

Scents produced are used to distribute information like warning signals and mating status ❣️ and tighten bonds between social groups, with studies suggesting that clan members have similar scents!

Badgers also deposit scents in their faeces and will typically defecate in shallow dug pits known as latrines, which are found on territorial boundaries 🦡💩

Did you know September and October are the busiest months for badgers?
Badgers throughout September and October will roam further a field for food to fatten up for winter. They will also be at their heaviest weight.
This puts badgers in danger when crossing roads for food.
Please keep an eye out for your local badgers around this time of year and if you find an injured badger please call us on 07860210414

Defra Minister Daniel Zeichner has visited Gatcombe Farm ahead of Sir Charles Godfrey’s forthcoming announcement. Sir Charles previously spent several days on the farm as part of his review.

The announcement will outline the government’s future direction on bovine TB control without culling. You can follow our journey to uncover the truth here: Brian May: The Badgers, The Farmers and Me: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0022710/ad/brian-may-the-badgers-the-farmers-and-me
Bovine TB has always spread from within the national herd. For too long, inaccurate and limited diagnostic tools have allowed the disease to remain hidden. The solutions already exist – we simply need to use them, for the sake of farmers, cattle, and, of course, the reason for our journey – our magnificent badger.

𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 - 𝗕𝗔𝗗𝗚𝗘𝗥 𝗖𝗨𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗜𝗠𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗡𝗧

The 4th and final year of intensive badger culling in Areas 63 and 64 will be starting imminently, likely at the weekend or Monday and will last for 6 to 8 weeks, borders shown are approximate. Please keep your eyes and ears open for cull activity and PM us immediately with as much information as possible, accurate location and photos if possible. Each year cage trapping seems to decline in favour of night time free shooting but if you hear any single or maybe double shot gun shots early morning it is very possibly for cage trapped badgers. Rifle shots are used for free shooting and although suppressed they can still be heard and you may see vehicles going around fields.

We cannot believe this is still happening despite being labelled as "ineffective"
