Makin' Biscuits Rescuary Inc Animal Rescue We also provide education to the public about felines. They are all beautiful creatures to us and we are here for them.

We are a small foster based rescue in the Tampa Bay area, whose purpose is to retrieve felines from kill shelters, neglected situations and owner surrenders; provide basic needs (food/water, temporary shelter and veterinary care); rehabilitating and rehoming so that they may live out their natural lives as pets. We are currently focusing on the “overlooked” felines due to various reasons, such as

age, manageable medical conditions or just for the mere fact that they are not as “pretty” or fluffy as another.

Pets are family, and just like humans, they need regular health checkups to ensure they live long, healthy lives. Here’s why annual visits to the veterinarian are crucial for your furry friend:

•Establishing a Baseline of Health: Annual checkups help establish a baseline of your pet's health. This allows veterinarians to track any changes over time and detect abnormalities early on.

•Early Detection of Disease: Regular checkups can catch signs of disease before they become serious. Many health issues, such as dental disease, arthritis, and diabetes, can be managed or treated more effectively when detected early.

•Monitoring Changes as Your Pet Ages: As pets age, their health needs change. Annual visits allow veterinarians to monitor your pet’s health status closely and make necessary adjustments to their care as they grow older.

•Cost Savings: Detecting and treating health issues early can save you money in the long run. Preventive care is often less expensive than treating advanced illnesses or emergencies.

•Reducing Anxiety: Regular visits to the veterinary office help familiarize your pet with the environment and the staff. This familiarity can significantly reduce their anxiety during future visits, especially in times of illness or emergency.

•Overall Well-Being: Beyond medical care, annual checkups ensure your pet is up to date on vaccinations, parasite prevention, and dental care, all of which contribute to their overall well-being.

Remember, your veterinarian is your pet’s best ally in maintaining good health. Schedule your pet’s annual checkup today and give them the gift of a happy, healthy life. Your furry companion will thank you for it!

Ensuring the well-being of our pets in the event of an emergency or the owner's unexpected absence is a crucial responsibility. Pets depend on us for their safety and care, and without a plan in place, they could face uncertain futures.

It's essential to designate a caregiver who understands your pet's needs and preferences, and to provide them with all necessary information and supplies. This includes food, medications, veterinary contacts, and any special instructions. Creating a written plan ensures that even during challenging times, our beloved pets receive the attention and support they deserve. By preparing ahead, we demonstrate our commitment to their welfare and peace of mind.

As we approach the 4th of July, it's crucial to prioritize the safety and comfort of our beloved pets amidst the festivities. Fireworks can be terrifying for animals, causing them to become anxious or even bolt in fear. Now is the time to consult with your veterinarian about strategies to keep your pets calm during the fireworks. Consider keeping them in a secure, quiet room where they feel safe, reducing the risk of them escaping through open doors in a panic.

Even the most easygoing pets can be startled by the sudden loud noises. When taking dogs outside, always use a leash to prevent them from running away due to fear. Ensure your pet's identification is up to date with a properly fitted collar displaying your current contact information and a microchip registration that's current. Taking these steps will help ensure your pets stay safe and secure during the fireworks season.

This season sees a surge in flea and tick activity, making our furry friends particularly vulnerable to these pests. Fleas can cause discomfort and allergic reactions, while ticks pose serious health risks such as Lyme disease and other infections. Ensure your pets are protected with veterinarian-recommended flea and tick treatments suitable for their size and species.

Regularly check for signs of infestation, like excessive scratching or visible pests, and promptly address any issues. By staying proactive and consistent with prevention measures, you not only safeguard your pets' health but also enhance their enjoyment of the summer months. Remember, a little prevention now can prevent bigger problems later on.

With June marking the start of hurricane season, it’s a good reminder to think about your animals in the event of a disaster. It's crucial to have a plan in place for your pets during emergencies like hurricanes. Your furry friends rely on you for their safety and well-being.

Make sure you have a designated evacuation route that includes your pets, and identify pet-friendly shelters or accommodations ahead of time. Prepare an emergency kit with their essentials: food, water, medications, and comfort items. Keep their vaccinations and ID tags up to date, and have a current photo of each pet in case they get lost.

By planning ahead, you can ensure that your pets stay safe and cared for during uncertain times. Don't wait until it's too late—make a plan today to protect your beloved pets tomorrow.

Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, and Release (TNVR) programs play a crucial role in managing the welfare of community cats. By neutering male cats, TNVR reduces aggressive behaviors and territorial fights, leading to a calmer environment for both cats and humans. For female cats, TNVR prevents repeated cycles of pregnancy and traumatic births, improving their overall health and well-being. Unfixed cats often roam in search of mates, risking accidents like being hit by cars or suffering from starvation. These programs help prevent the suffering of homeless kittens born into harsh conditions.

With limited resources and adopters available, the growing cat population poses a significant challenge. TNVR is a humane solution that stabilizes and reduces the number of community cats over time. Local shelters and rescues often provide resources and support for TNVR efforts, ensuring that concerned individuals can take action to improve the lives of community cats. Reach out to your local organizations to learn more about how you can contribute to these vital programs.

😸FOSTER FAMILIES NEEDED 😸

Fostering kittens and cats is a lifeline for these animals, offering them a chance at a brighter future. By opening your home to foster, you play a crucial role in saving lives. Rescues and shelters can only help as many animals as they have space for, and with foster homes, their capacity to rescue and rehabilitate increases significantly. Fostering provides a loving, clean, and safe environment that supports both physical and mental health, far superior to a shelter cage. In a home setting, foster families get to know the personality and needs of each cat, which greatly enhances their chances of finding a permanent loving home. With an overwhelming number of cats in need and not enough safe spaces, fostering is more critical than ever. We urge everyone to consider opening their hearts and homes to an animal in need—become a foster and make a life-saving difference today. Reach out to your local shelters and rescues to learn more about fostering opportunities and how you can help.

This is Stormy’s story….the first video is Stormy at the shelter…hard to see, but turn the volume up and listen/watch for the “spitting”.
While visiting the shelter, one of the very caring and observant volunteers brought me over to his kennel and pleaded that we pull him. She was astute enough to know he was a good kitty and needed to be out of the shelter environment. He presented as “aggressive” and did not “show well” for an adoption. He was getting passed over. The shelter had to put a sheet over the front of the kennel because he was reacting with spitting and hissing to anyone that came near him. He was not eating, drinking or using the litter box. Notes indicated that he was an owner surrender who complained that his behavior changed and was hiding.
In order to evaluate what the problem was, we wanted to rule out any medical issues. It was then determined by the shelter (after we showed interested to pull) that he had a bad Urinary Tract Infection and was probably in pain. We thank the Vet at the shelter for considering our concerns regarding his medical status.
The second video (in comments) is Stormy at his foster home less than 48 hours after we pulled him. He would have never let anyone pet him while in the stressful environment of a shelter setting. He will continue to decompress at his foster’s home and we will then reevaluate.
This is typical story of the kitties that we at Makin’ Biscuits Rescuary choose to focus on…..to prevent an unnecessary euthanasia.
Please consider donating while he is in our care to PayPal.me/makinbiscuitsfl

We just picked up Bloom from the Shelter. She is 7lbs and was picked up as a stray. Estimated age 1-1.5 yrs. She was going to be released, but could not due to the fact that she is front declawed. Shelter notes show that she had to be sedated because she Could not be handled. “Hissy, flighty and swatting”. Some animals do not do well on a shelter environment for various reasons. Here is a video….see for yourself! She is currently decompressing in a foster home. Evaulation (reevaluation) will be done while in foster care. She is updated on vaccinations, microchip and has been spayed. If interested please reach out to us on Facebook messenger or send an email to [email protected]. Donations are welcome: Paypal.me/makinbiscuitsfl

This is Nala !

Breed: Domestic Short Hair (DSH).

Color: Tortie (Beautiful coloring and markings).

Age: 2 years.

Weight: A little chunky. Some indoor formula food and more exercise should be considered.

Kids: Yes, Respectful, and gentle.

Dogs: Yes, Respectful, and gentle.

Cats: Definitely. In fact, Nala needs a playmate. She is very playful and loves the interaction. Her Senior foster brother ain’t havin’ it.

Before Us – She is an owner surrender due to a baby having severe allergies. Happy to report the baby has since improved greatly.

How She is in Foster Home – a little short-term skittishness with new surroundings/noises/people. Warmed up nicely. Gets along with cat friendly dogs. Nala is being fostered in a home with a Senior Great Dane (a gentle giant) and a Senior cat.

Cuddle Level – Nala will take petting at any time. She will “plop” on the floor for a belly rub (This is amazing for a cat—that is usually a no touch/limited touching zone). She will hang with you on the couch or by your feet (it’s always her choice), will nap with you on the bed under a blanket.

Other Cool Entertaining Things About Nala – She is a little vocal and will let you know when she needs attention. She will greet you when you come home with her little meows. She will come when you call out to her. She is Houdini like—will disappear for a while and then pop back in front of you without you seeing. She will then request petting at that time, with a meow, stop, drop and roll antic! She does this several times a day. Loves looking out the window, chattering at lizards and birds. A frequent Purrr-er. Overall a really great easy-going kitty.

Important Notes: Nala is declawed in the front and will need to stay inside. She stalks the doors for a chance to get outside. Diligence is required. She will give gentle love bites while playing. Recommendation to break out a feather teaser or other toy she can munch on.

Must Haves: A playmate; Absolutely an Indoor Environment Only.

If interesting in adopting, please message us or email us at [email protected]
