Today is Small Business Saturday, so we would like to take a moment to thank you guys - our wonderful community of customers, followers, and friends!

Jake and I started Strange Tails in 2021 out of the spare bedroom of our apartment. He was armed with ten years of experience doing leatherwork as a hobby with a keen eye for design, and I had picked up some social media skills from running ’s account along with professional experience in customer service and project management.

At the time we had no idea what it would grow into, but we knew that we loved Finley, and we were determined to make him some better gear than we could find available. We envisioned a system of products that all worked together to optimize for functionality, with beautiful designs and colours, all the while offering the high quality and attention to detail of a handmade product. Since then, we’ve gone viral with our multi functional leashes, longlines, and handsfree adapter system and received positive feedback from dog owners all around the world.

Running a business that not only sells products, but also manufactures them in-house has been an incredible challenge. We’ll never be able to compete with next day shipping from Amazon, but over the past three years we’ve invested in our workshop and honed in our skills to learn how to manufacture hundreds of products every week. At the outset, we weren’t sure if our model would be successful - would customers really want to pay a higher price for our handmade products? Would they be understanding of our processing time and willing to wait when they could have a leash delivered to them tomorrow instead? As we started to grow, we asked ourselves - was investing in new tools and machinery for the shop the right choice? Would taking the leap to rent a commercial unit in an expensive city like Vancouver pay off?

What is a mystery sale, you might ask?

Our mystery sale will feature a selection of pre-made products available for 30-40% off. These are products that we’ve collected through the year where we made the wrong colour combo, used the wrong hardware, or made an order twice. You’ll get to choose the length for leashes and the size for collars and handsfree adapters but the width/ hardware/ colours will be a surprise!

We will have 4/5/6ft lengths available for leashes, all sizes of handsfree adapters, and most but not all sizes available for collars. Since these items are premade there will be a limited quantity available - once they are sold out they will not restock. Last year some styles and sizes sold out very quickly. Items are not reserved in your cart, so I recommend acting fast if you’d like to snag something!

Pro tip - if there are any other products you’d like to purchase along with your mystery sale items, add these to your cart ahead of time so you can checkout as quickly as possible.

Please note: our website will be closed from 5:30-6:00pm Pacific on October 9th to prepare for the sale.
