Some more hive footage from this summer. The darker comb is where the bees are raising young. These cells of comb have larvae that are in the process of growing into new bees. Young bees will chew their way out of their cell and thei first task is to clean their cell out. Young bees will typically fill roles nursing larvvae, cleaning and building wax comb for the hive.
Notice the bee in the upper right hand corner? She's got pollen pouches oon her legs. bees keep honey, pollena nd nectar close to where young are being raised making it easier to feed them.

She's the most interesting woman in the hive. Queen bees are followed constantly by a cadre of attendants that take care of her every need. They feed her, groom her and protect her. While highly important to the growth and survival of the hive the queen does not run the show. The hive is a super organism that makes it's decisions for the best interest of the hive... plus her job all depends on how much she lays. God save the Queen!
Fending off Yellow Jackets. Yellow Jackets are notorious for raiding honey bee hives to steal resources and can destroy entire hives.
