HOW TO USE A CLICKER TO SUPERCHARGE YOUR DOG'S TRAINING SESSIONS
A "clicker" is simply a small mechanical noisemaker. Clicker training works on the same premise as the famed "Pavlov's dogs" experiment.
The key is to create an association between the sound of the clicker and receiving a treat. You can then use the sound of the clicker to reward new behaviors you'd like to reinforce. You can train things like sitting, getting their attention, learning their name, and other simple learned behaviors.
Charging the clicker is super important to get the most of your dog obedience training. Charging is basically the process of making the initial associations between the "click" sound and yummy treats!
How can you do this? It's really simple actually.
1. Throw down a couple of training treats on the ground near your dog
2. Press the clicker once for each time he goes to eat a treat you placed on the ground
3. Repeat this process over the course of the day for a few days in a row.
On average, it will take most dog's 2-3 days to learn the association with the clicker. They will begin to anticipate the treat, firing off the pleasure centers in the dog's brain.
You'll know when it's working because the clicker will get their attention immediately.
Once you are able to get your dog to understand the connection between treats and the clicker, it becomes a huge motivator for them!
This will allow you to teach new things to your dog or reinforce behaviors they already do that you'd like to reward.
If you have a dog that may be misbehaving or you'd just like to teach some new tricks...
..give this simple technique a try and let us know in the comments how it works for you!
