Happy Saturday friends!!! I have a lottery scratch off ticket raffle for the refuge I would really appreciate all the participation possible. There are some looming medical needs/surgeries for some of the dogs that have been saved from being euthanized over the last several months before their adoptions can be finalized.

A lot of you buy scratchers each week already, so here's your chance to pay less than you do to the jiffy store to potentially win one of 3 baskets.

There's $125 worth of tickets in one basket, $75 worth in the second basket and $50 worth in the third.

Even if you just buy 1 ticket for $5, that $5 adds up!! The more tickets you buy the cheaper the overall ticket cost is.

Please help me help these animals.

Guess what time it is??? Time to feed the animals at the refuge! I appreciate everyone who makes a small donation in any amount that adds up to help cover the food costs!

*Great with other dogs and loves children. Unsure about cats, but she is so well behaved I'm certain she will be great with them too! Approximately 1-1.5 years old.

Some of you already know Hendrix and some of you are just being introduced. He is the most recent doggo to come to Tender Heart. He was a long timer at the shelter and had the cards stacking against him. Black dog syndrome is real. He's a large breed. He has a few little imperfections about his appearance. He had been there pushing a year, so when I get the call, their time in the shelter is coming to a end...... and clearly I can't live with that.

With that being said, he's a happy happy boy! He crates very well. He loves company but is quiet when you have things to do and can't give him all the attention. He loves belly rubs. He tries to find a private spot to go potty. Today there was about a 12 inch palmetto bush that he tried to get behind to go number 2 today. Lol. I hated to break it to him, that I could still see him. He just looked away like if he couldn't see me, I couldn't see him. Hahaha.

This silly lovebug of a big boy needs a foster. He's happy here but he isn't living in a 'home' setting and is so deserving of that.

Please let me know if you're able to open your home to foster this big guy once he's had time to decompress fully from the shelter life he's known so long. He has a few medical procedures he is going to need and would be more comfortable inside of a home with his people.

Busted this sweet boy out of the shelter today! Happy New Year and new life Chicky Pie!!!

Thankful for the volunteers that rally for each one of these guys every day. Thankful to Lynda Leffler Gridley who is always my sounding board in these cases. When I get the call, it's because they're not going to make it out. And together we aren't going to let that happen if we can help it.

Thank you, Heather Holt for all your hard work getting the social media work done to raise funds for his care and to find him an amazing foster. 🐾 ❤️

Do you have a dog(s)?

Make a plan now for your dogs to be secured indoors and safe from being spooked from fireworks. Get appropriate medications from your vet or or doses from them for what you can get over the counter to help with anxiety. Keep them from being able to have access to the exterior doors as people are coming and going. Don't take them outside or let them outside by themselves, leash them, with a secured leash and collar. Many dogs slip their harnesses when spooked by turning around and pulling it off.

Retractable leashes are the #1 way dogs get away from the owners when out walking. When a retractable leash handle hits the ground, dogs think something is chasing them and they run faster and farther away.

I have had dogs that weren't bothered by fireworks and one year and all of the sudden they were another. I've known people who have never seen their dogs again when they took off running from fireworks. I've known of a dog that took off running when spooked and straight into traffic and was hit and killed.

If you care at all about your dogs and even if you don't, please protect them. Don't let your dog be made stray, or get hit by a car because you didn't keep them safe.

But a shout out to my camera man, Steve Smedley who I sprung the job on when I went by and borrowed a trap!
