Busted this sweet boy out of the shelter today! Happy New Year and new life Chicky Pie!!!

Thankful for the volunteers that rally for each one of these guys every day. Thankful to Lynda Leffler Gridley who is always my sounding board in these cases. When I get the call, it's because they're not going to make it out. And together we aren't going to let that happen if we can help it.

Do you have a dog(s)?

Make a plan now for your dogs to be secured indoors and safe from being spooked from fireworks. Get appropriate medications from your vet or or doses from them for what you can get over the counter to help with anxiety. Keep them from being able to have access to the exterior doors as people are coming and going. Don't take them outside or let them outside by themselves, leash them, with a secured leash and collar. Many dogs slip their harnesses when spooked by turning around and pulling it off.

Retractable leashes are the #1 way dogs get away from the owners when out walking. When a retractable leash handle hits the ground, dogs think something is chasing them and they run faster and farther away.

I have had dogs that weren't bothered by fireworks and one year and all of the sudden they were another. I've known people who have never seen their dogs again when they took off running from fireworks. I've known of a dog that took off running when spooked and straight into traffic and was hit and killed.

If you care at all about your dogs and even if you don't, please protect them. Don't let your dog be made stray, or get hit by a car because you didn't keep them safe.

Let's feature this handsome fella that went to his forever home this week!

Dino was scheduled to be euthanized due to kennel issues that sometimes occur from long term stay in the shelter. He arrived as a puppy, under a year old, and was there for nearly a year!

A team of folks who knew him, knew that he deserved a chance to live and reached out to me to pull him to safety.

They rallied up fosters and even an adopter was found! The adopter lives in NH but was coming down for Thanksgiving and taking him back with her after!

This Florida dog is now a snow dog learning how to be a dog for the first time in his short life! He's a happy boy with a long life of love ahead of him!
