Mama has LOST HER MIND!! She found a Mediterranean Gecko yesterday. He has a boo boo eye so she decided to keep him. So she ran out and got him a nice little home, which is a work in progress. Over time, she’ll add a mulch substrate and some plants but she wants to make sure he gets settled and is happy before she does anymore.

First pics when I opened Timehop today was my baby girl. My daughter said it was Lillian telling me she’s ok, bossing her brothers around and running all over. 💔💔💔
I just can’t believe she’s gone. She was such a strong presence in this house. The alpha for so many years but so loyal and gentle with me. Even when she could hardly walk, she’d still follow me from room to room.

She is better this morning! 🎉 The second pic is from last night. I was so beside myself and was so afraid she’d be gone by the morning. But she’s a fighter. 💪🏽

Katie was found roaming the streets in Marlboro County, SC in early July, 2019. When she was picked up, she had skin infections, ear infections, and a bad cough. When the rescue pulled her and she was examined by their vet, they found that she was also flea infested, riddled with parasites and had severe heart worm. That vet also determined that she possibly had right and left congestive heart failure, collapsed trachea and an enlarged heart but couldn’t give a definite diagnosis because her heart worm was so bad. (So while our vet only last week confirmed her CHF and collapsed trachea, she has likely had these conditions for more than a year. Enlarged heart needs x rays which we haven’t done.) The rescue considered euthanasia but decided to give her a chance.

They took care of her until she was cleared for adoption in mid December. It was then that a local IG friend who works with that rescue, alerted me to her. How could I pass on those beautiful chocolate ball eyes? She still had a skin infection around her neck which I promptly took care of. And she had the cough of a 90 year old woman who’s been smoking since she was 10. She was determined to be heart worm negative last month. I’ve spent 6 months trying to eradicate that cough but to no avail. The lasix that she is on now has helped immensely. Her cough has diminished greatly but not completely and it’s not so intense as it was. Now this with her tooth. Such a horrible infection. She’s also on an anti anxiety that works two fold with her anxiety and has been shown to be successful in helping dogs with collapsed trachea. Like I said, she’s a fighter! 💪🏽

Daryl at the vet yesterday. Apparently, they expected me to tranquilize him before I brought him but it didn’t occur to me. They tried to look at him but he pretty much flipped out. So I had to leave him so they could sedate him. It was just his annual btw. So, double ear infection (which I knew about) and he’s gained 5 lbs in 8 months. That’s like a 150 lb. person putting on 50 lbs.! This is really bad. Daryl has an injury in his esophagus that he got before he went to Pug Rescue of Florida so he occasionally has a cough. The extra weight aggravates that cough. Now I’ve got to work at getting that weight off. Good news is he tested heart worm negative so we are through with that ordeal. 🎉

Yesterday was National Rescue Dog Day but in this house, it’s every day! Mama has adopted Daryl, Izzy, Teddy, Katie and Angel Louie. 😇 We are huge supporters of adopt don’t shop. Every month we donate 20% of our cookie proceeds to pet rescues and we help out where we can. So next time you’re thinking of adding a new addition to you’re family, check out some rescues. They’ve got puppies to seniors and everything in between.

The day we brought Jack home. He did this several times that day but has never done it since. ❤️ Do you know the story of how Jack came to us? Grammy is Sherman’s, Wilbur’s, Lillian’s and Jack’s breeder (and she was Phillip’s mama’s breeder too) Lillian and Jack are littermates. Shortly after our sweet boy, Brad died, we went to visit Grammy. She has lots of puggies because although she’s no longer breeding, she kept a baby here and there and occasionally people would drop pugs off at her house or previous adopters would decide they’re too much work and return them. This day, we were petting Jack and after a while, she said “why don’t you take Jack? He needs a lot of attention that I’m just not able to give him.” She told us to think about it, which we did and a few days later, we went back to get him. He is definitely my Velcro boy. Follows me everywhere. Cries and whines if he can’t be touching me. And sits with his back up against the front door when I’m not home so he can be sure to be the first one to greet me. So because of Grammy’s selfless act of putting Jack’s needs before her own, he became my boy. Grammy was right. He needs a lot of attention but I’m so glad he’s here. ❤️

Update on Katie: All your well wishes definitely helped. The lump is NOT cancer! 🎉 It is, however, a hernia. The vet said it is abdominal fat and not her intestine, thankfully. It’s from her horrible coughing. Unfortunately, due to her heart and lung condition, she can’t have the surgery needed to fix it. Earlier, the vet didn’t want to put her on a cough suppressant because she was still dealing with heart worm die off and she wanted to be sure Katie could cough enough to get any worms out of her lungs. But it’s been long enough and now she’s on a suppressant which will hopefully keep the hernia from getting any worse. I’m glad Katie was at the vet for a good part of the day because the vet got to see, first hand, the extent of Katie’s cough. Thank you all for sending this little potato so much love. 🥰 heartwormpositive

Some good vibes would definitely be appreciated today. Miss Katie is at the vet today. She has a lump on one of her breasts and she’s having slides made to check if it’s cancer. I’m hoping that it’s maybe a hernia with all her coughing. 🤞🏼 As you know, Katie has had a rough life. When she was pulled from the county shelter by the rescue group, she had skin infections, bad fleas, internal parasites and very advanced heart worm. The heart worm has caused permanent damage to her heart and lungs. She has congestive heart failure and a constant cough. When she gets overly excited, she passes out. The rescue’s vet also felt that she had had puppies shortly before she was dumped in the shelter. The rescue considered euthanasia but decided to treat her and see what happened. She’s a fighter. 💪🏼 Katie was most likely a breeder dog and I’m guessing with her health the way it was at the time that if she had puppies, they probably didn’t make it and that’s when she was dumped. Total speculation on my part but it seems the most likely scenario. Katie is still not spayed because she couldn’t withstand the anesthesia. So this poor girl has had a really rough time but despite all that, she is the sweetest, most gentle girl. ❤️

Happy Gotcha Day to my original baby girl!! Thirteen years ago today, we brought Lillian home because Phillip wanted a baby sister. When he saw what a baby sister was, he sulked for two months. 😭 When we brought home Wilbur and Norbie a few months later, they quickly became the Three Musketeers (Three Stooges more likely) She has been the alpha for many years but has quietly relinquished the position to our resident nut job, Daryl. Thirteen years seems like yesterday and a million years ago all at the same time. 💖

I got to run a race today! Mama and daddy took me with them to run a 5k. I ran with daddy. I got to p**p in the woods (since I’m a bear) and I only tried to beat up one doggo. And I got to have half of a chicken sammich. Daddy is a piggy and ate the other half. I even got a medal. Best day ever!
