My beloved mare, companion of nearly 14 years, and namesake of Aureum left her physical body yesterday morning surrounded by people that loved her and the closest members of her herd. She was a fierce but gentle soul that taught me so very much and it was a blessing to be able to give her this final act of kindness on a good day.
When we met all those years ago, I was recovering from injuries inflicted by another horse and was grieving the unexpected loss of my family dog. She helped me find strength, courage, and purpose throughout all of our time together, moved with me across three states, gave pony rides and lessons to so many friends, family members, and kids, and was the matriarch of her herd, teaching a lot of young horses how to coexist and be polite. Yesterday as I was processing some of this, a blue heron flew across my line of sight. Blue Heron brings messages of self-determination and self-reliance. They represent an ability to progress and evolve. The long thin legs of the heron reflect that an individual doesnāt need great massive pillars to remain stable, but must be able to stand on oneās own.
When I met Dancer, I could not stand on my own. I needed her to hold me up, to carry me, to give me a reason to live when I was at my lowest of lows. Thanks to her, Iāve come a long way since then. I think we have both made each other proud.
