🔥The competition season is in full swing. 🔥
I personally like to go to exams in the spring and then in the fall. From about the end of June to September we have with the dogs a competition break, as our summer is full of camps, vacations and hot summer days that we prefer to spend by the water rather than on the field. So the plan is clear, to pass OB2 till the summer starts and try Rally Obedience. 😎 And what do you plan to do with your dog? What trials/competitions are you looking forward to?

The dog has done all the exercises correctly, but you still don't get full points? How is that possible? Be careful! Remember that it is not just the dog that is evaluated in the ring, but the handler and dog as a team.😎

It often happens that the dog does everything correctly, but the handler, even unknowingly, does something he shouldn't.
🎯One of the most common mistakes is the handler's body support. Whether it is shoulder movements, head turns, hand aids or stepping over, all of these can affect the final score.

Let's be honest, who of us in training doesn't stand like a pinned dog, look back at the dog to make sure he is in the correct position, step back with one foot when throwing the retrieve to make it easier for the dog to throw (this is what is penalised in obedience), etc.?
All these unwanted movements by the handler then cost the team valuable points, which can add up to a large but unnecessary loss.

💡This doesn't mean you have to be a statue at every training session! Sometimes you need to help the dog or motivate it with your movements, but remember that the dog has to train without your help with its body. So, deliberately, this kind of leg action is a good indicator of where you are. Stand up straight, place your arms loosely along your body (no treat/toy), stand up straight, look in front of you and give the command for the exercise.

How did it go?

💡If the dog responded quickly, accurately and willingly to the leg in the correct position, congratulations, you are number one!
But if he had any problems, or if he was crooked or slow, or if he didn't understand at all what you wanted him to do, don't despair, just remember that you'll have to retrain that too.

I know this feeling very well. What about you?
Some days at practice, everything I can think of goes right. A few days later, I leave the training place desperate, frustrated, with a long list of all the mistakes in my head that still need to be worked out. Sometimes I even wonder if it makes sense to continue training....

At times like this, it is important to remember one important thing!

🎯Every mistake pushes you further and teaches you new things. You just need to remember that. Failure is an unpleasant feeling, but only temporarily. Ideally, we learn from it. Failure shows us what we need to improve!💡

And if you think that everything worked out for me the first time, without effort, tears and long hours of thinking about whether I should just give up, you're really wrong.

But in the end, I always bite the bullet and realize that failure is the key to success, and I keep "fighting" again.💪

Today was the day I decided to teach my dog a new trick, but I had absolutely no idea what command to use.

💡I ended up using the word "HUŠ" out of necessity, because my dog was wiggling around under my feet. Yes, we were practicing another possible (German) turn while heelwork.

If you are struggling in training with an exercise or a dog's behaviour in a particular situation, remember that if you see a change, you are on the right track! There is no need to demand perfection right away, but work on improving. That's the way to get the result you want. 🙃

Friday training tip!
💥How to work with attention in dog sports?💥

I've got a little preview from our course that's running right now! But I believe it can be useful for everyone.

💥Switching Attention💥
It is important to understand what the dog is supposed to focus on during a particular exercise. For example, when practicing the heelwork or distance positions, I will require the dog's full attention towards me.
However, if I want the dog to run into the box or for a retrieve, it is not ideal if the dog is only watching me and has no idea where the retrieve or box is. These exercises require the dog's attention away from me.

In the video you can see the dog in the basic position I want him to switch his attention between me and the cone. Why? Because then I don't have the dog not knowing where to run, where to find the retrieve, or what obstacle to jump over.

It was a year full of challenges and obstacles, but in the end we made it and the DAC (Dog Accelerate Club) was born.

👉The lesson: never give up, even when things don't go to plan!👈

I could close the motivational window here, but for those who are interested in at least part of our story, it is written below. For the rest of you, I suggest you skip to the end and see what we have planned for the news. 😎

So how was it?
Well, it was exactly 365 days to the day that I turned up at Jana´s place for a coffee and our classic three-hour chat turned into an idea to transfer her knowledge and experience into the online world.

We didn't want to do just random online course, we wanted it to be more comprehensive. To be in the online world, to have our own website, to create an online course, to do webinars, to build a community on social media, but still to function in the classic way, which is to have regular trainings, intensive trainings and seminars.

And that's how DAC was born. We were enthusiastic, determined, but also new in online business and, most importantly, full-time employed. DAC was and still is a hobby that fills our long evenings and weekends that have mysteriously become shorter.

The way to realization has been long and challenging. I never dreamed how many things would have to be worked out. Technical problems came from all sides. We were constantly swapping ideas for other ideas, but in the end we got it done. In September 2022 we created a beta version of the Focused sport dog online course. And in January 2023 we launched a follow-up course, Play dog sport with focus.
These courses form our base for beginners in dog sports, but it's clear that we have many more advanced teams among our followers. So the course schedule for 2023 is clear! Something for the more advanced handlers!

And now that we've got the technical stuff sorted, there's more time to build a community together on social media. And that includes you!
It's a big goal, but I think the changes we're making will help a lot.

It's possible that you're still on the fence about signing up for the Play dogsport with focus course, and there are still some questions running through your mind.

That's why I've decided to write down the FAQs for the course

📌Do I need to know any exercises?

No, you don't have to know any exercises with the dog. We will show the incorporation of focus in each exercise with simple examples, where we will also explain the specific exercise. So if you don't know any exercises yet, it's no problem.

In case you are already moderately advanced, you can use focus in the exercises your dog have learned already + practice new exercises with us. :)

📌 Do I have to take videos?

You don't have to make videos, of course. We don't force anyone to film and share training sessions. If all you need is our instructions and possibly written questions or answers within the call, videos are not necessary.

However, we recommend filming the training. You have our intensive support in the course, so if you record a video, we will break it down and give you tips on how to work further.

📌 Is it possible to split the price into installments?

Do you want to take part in the course, but is the price too high for you to pay in one? That's no problem either! We want to support every dog owner who has decided to work on themselves and their dog. Therefore, if you need to spread the price in installments, email us or a message on FB and we will agree on everything individually.

📌 What if I'm not doing any dog sports yet?

If you don't do a specific dog sport yet, but enjoy working with dogs and their training, then the course is for you! And who knows, maybe you'll get excited about a dog sport based on this course and get yourself a new passion.

Retrieve is a complex exercise where several things are evaluated. Therefore, it needs to be trained step by step. Let's take a look at one of the common mistakes.

👉It is the early release of the dumbbell.👈

Do you struggle with your dog dropping the dumbbell before you can take it? If so, you need to reward more independent and calm holding. And when your dog has mastered this phase without problems, only then move on to the next phase of the exercise.

I'm still going through the feedbacks on my first run of the Focused Sport Dog online course.

📌Who is the course for?
This course is designed for dog owners who are beginners in a dog sport, or just want to start a dog sport, and are struggling with keeping their dog's attention during the training.

📌What language will the course be in?
The online course will be available in both English and Czech. You can choose which language suits you better.

📌What is the content of the course?
Step by step instructions on how to develop a dog, who is paying attention to you during the training.
You will figure out what is actually motivating your dog and how to work on the harder training conditions or situations.
You will learn how to react when your dog is or is not cooperating with you and how to motivate your dog and have fun together.
You will learn how to train your dog with understanding and how to work on a mutual bond.

📌How much does the course cost?
This 4weeks online course is for FREE. As this is a pilot version of the course and we are looking to improve it based on feedback from participants, we are not currently charging anything for the course. The only condition for taking the course for free is that you are willing to provide me with the feedback on the course and references. Nothing more, nothing less. 🙃

📌When and where does the course start?
The course starts on Monday 31 October 2022 and it will be held in a closed FB group. So if you're not already signed up there, here's the link. :

Today was the day I decided to teach my dog a new trick, but I had absolutely no idea what command to use. 💡I ended up using the word "HUŠ" out of necessity, because my dog was wiggling around under my feet. Yes, we were practicing another possible (German) turn while heelwork. 🎯How do you come up with the commands for each trick/exercise? Share an interesting, funny or unusual command in the comments. Friday training tip! 💥How to work with attention in dog sports?💥 I've got a little preview from our course that's running right now! But I believe it can be useful for everyone. 💥Switching Attention💥 It is important to understand what the dog is supposed to focus on during a particular exercise. For example, when practicing the heelwork or distance positions, I will require the dog's full attention towards me. However, if I want the dog to run into the box or for a retrieve, it is not ideal if the dog is only watching me and has no idea where the retrieve or box is. These exercises require the dog's attention away from me. In the video you can see the dog in the basic position I want him to switch his attention between me and the cone. Why? Because then I don't have the dog not knowing where to run, where to find the retrieve, or what obstacle to jump over. Do you train that kind of attention switching, too?😎
