This handsome devil is our 2024 Holsteiner c**t by Uriko x Camiros, Uncas PFH, at a week shy of 6 months. This was supposed to be a canter video but he wasn't going for it, so we'll try again tomorrow. At least I was able to get a decent photo. He is the second c**t we've had by Uriko and they are both excellent in quality and similar in build and personalities.

Dressage friends, someone please help me understand this because this makes no sense at all. On the surface, this seems BS to me.

The United States was eliminated from Olympic dressage competition Tuesday when Marcus Orlob's mare, Jane, displayed blood on the right hind leg during the pairs first Olympic appearance.

The Holsteiner Verband is coming to Aiken!

Mark your calendars for 1 October 2024 at Full Gallop Farm in Aiken!

Each year the Holsteiner Verband conducts a mare and foal inspection at regional sites throughout North America and we are excited to report that in 2024 one of the sites will be right here in Aiken! The purpose of the inspection is to approve mare candidates for entry into the Holsteiner studbooks and to inspect and judge foals to give feedback to the breeder on the progress of their breeding program.

Mares are judged and receive a score on 7 traits: type, topline, front legs, back legs, walk, trot, and canter. Foals are judged and receive scores on 2 traits: conformation and movement. Horses are shown in hand on a triangle and also at liberty in an arena. Typically there are 2 judges from the Verband.

Eligible mares include any mare with existing papers from any European warmblood registry and mares with Jockey Club papers. Inspection, approval and entry into the Holsteiner studbooks is necessary for any foal from the mare to be registered as a Holsteiner, when sired by an approved Holsteiner stallion, and to receive the optional Holsteiner brand. Special cases do exist and if you are unsure as to whether your mare meets inspection requirements, please contact me or Marja-Liisa Solterbeck at [email protected]

The fee schedule for mares and foals is $171 for mares and $86 for foals. For more information on how to sign up and prepare for the inspection, please go here: https://www.holsteiner.com/approvals

Ample overnight stabling will be available on site. Please contact Full Gallop Farm at 803 215 6590 to make arrangements.

Thanks to Lara Anderson for her generosity in making her wonderful facility available for this event.

Our Camiros x Ariadus Holsteiner mare, Waltz Across Texas, aka Electra on day 337, awaiting arrival of her Uriko c**t. This pic doesn’t do her justice, as she is glowing and deeply dappled and looking pretty sharp despite her 18 years. This foal is not spoken for.

This is our 2022 Holsteiner gelding, Lieutenant Dan, aka "LT". Pedigree is Larimar / Calido / Rocadero, stamm 5381. He is a full sibling to Nessa Cossentine Equestrian's L'Azzure and Lauren Elizabeth's Carolina and shares their good looks, correct conformation, beautiful movement, and great personality. He is one of the friendliest horses we have produced and seems to genuinely enjoy interacting with his human handlers. He has shown talent and courage in the jump chute and is well socialized with other horses. he is a purpose bred show jumper but he would also make a superb event horse. LT is available and we have quite a bit of video of him. Please message me or comment here for more information. Located near Aiken, SC. 18 carrots.

As spring has sprung and foaling season is upon us, I'm reminded of the special qualities the season brings to us who own mares about to offer up their "packages" of equine joy. I think it's common for anyone who owns a horse farm, but perhaps especially true for breeders, to ask the question, "why do i keep doing this?". Horses are expensive to create and maintain and they are a lot of work. A LOT of work! The answer to the question is this, at least for me: I just can't imagine a life without the joy and anticipation i get from breeding these amazing creatures. There is nothing more satisfying to me to see a perfect foal produced by my farm. To me, horses are more than an interest; they are a passion. Our first foal (Uriko x Camiros) is due 25 April. Let the good times roll.

That's all. Carry on.

I urgently need to go computer shopping today. If anyone is familiar with all-in-one type computers I would appreciate input. Also, I'm assuming Best Buy to be the best local source but if anyone knows of other sources with a good selection (not Walmart or Staples), please let me know. Lastly, for any military friends, does the PX at Ft Eisenhower / Jackson have a decent selection and is it worth the drive?

The 30 January meeting (on Zoom) of the Holsteiner Verband North American Breeding District was a great opportunity to hear from other members and to learn more about the state of the Holsteiner breed as well as laying out future plans. Marja-Liisa Solterbeck gave an excellent presentation on membership numbers (both horses and humans) as well as the results of the 2023 inspection tour. We learned that our membership is growing. Some of the highlights:

- We added 59 new members in 2023 and total membership is now 216.
- The number of regional inspection sites rose from 3 sites in 2022 to 7 sites in 2023.
- The number of horses inspected rose from 32 mares and 59 foals in 2022 to 61 mares and 97 foals in 2023.
- Foals by 49 different sires were inspected.
- Planning for the 2024 inspection tour is underway with further expansion of the number of sites, including one here in South Carolina!
Marja-Liisa was kind enough to share her presentation, which I don't seem to be able to attach here, so shoot me a message and I'll send it to you. There was another presentation on specifics on stallions and comparing Holsteiners to other breeds by Sebastian Rohde which i will ask for to post here.

Update on our breeding program - foals coming in 2024! We have three mares in foal to outstanding stallions. They are:

Waltz Across Texas (Electra) (Camiros x Ariadus x Accord II, stamm 6660) is in foal to Uriko, due 25 April. This will be Electra's first foal for us and judging from the quality of this year's exceptional Uriko x Calido foal, Union Jack, this will be one to watch.

Adriana (Calido x Rocadero x Capitol II, stamm 5381) is in foal to Contefino. This is the 5th time we have crossed this wonderful mare to one of our favorite stallions and all 4 have been exceptionally athletic and rideable horses. We're looking forward to another superstar! Adriana is due 2 June.

Hollywood, SSH (Cancara x Cacique x Ariadus, stamm 6660) is in foal to Casquino. This is a reprise of last year's breeding, which produced our gorgeous filly, Romina Belle (Mia). If this foal follows suit, it will be gray, tall, athletic and have a great personality.

I'm happy to consider in utero purchases. Please contact me for more information.
