I DID NOT KNOW... by Alissa Kelly

I did not know a horse could bring people into your life that end up meaning the most to you.
I did not know a horse could make the hardest days of your life bearable.
I did not know a horse could teach you to put others first.
I did not know a horse could remind you time and time again that your gut is always right.
I did not know a horse could break your heart.
I did not know a horse could pick you up when you have fallen apart.
I did not know a horse could teach you to dream again, after you thought it was not possible.
I did not know a horse could make you believe in yourself.
I did not know a horse could teach responsibility, work ethic, and dedication.
I did not know a horse could make you believe in something when no one else does.
I did not know a horse could make you learn to forgive and forget.
I did not know a horse could humble you faster than you can say humble.
I did not know a horse could make you a winner.
I did not know a horse could also teach you how to lose gracefully.
I did not know a horse could instill patience in you.
I did not know a horse could make you listen better.
I did not know a horse could give you their heart.
I did not know a horse could change your life.
I did not know a horse could do all these things...
but now I know. ❤️❤️

If you enjoy working around horses, being outside and taking some quiet time to get in touch with your head and your heart, I have a recommendation for you. Mulberry Tree farm, owned by Karin Karlsson is a quiet, privately owned farm with a small herd of 6. She takes in one rescued standardbred horse at a time, at her own expense, to rehabilitate & rehome. It takes one person to make a difference in the world but it takes a village to support the cause. If you have an hour or two any day to help with some of the menial barn chores, from brushing the horses to cleaning a bucket, in exchange for great company & the healing capabilities of her small herd of soulful horses, then please reach out to Karin. In exchange for the time you give, the horses & Karin offer Meditation with the horses. This is scheduled once or twice a month at her farm. It’s an experience that leaves you feeling a sense of calm that is hard to describe. To learn more, please contact Karin at 6099150491 or message this page

A last farewell from Honeybee.
We are so very grateful to have had the opportunity to know her. An animal that had been so abused and beaten up and still showed so much trust and love

Please think what can happen when you give your horse away to a good home.
Always send them off with a contract and check in on them.

Before I even get started the emotions poor in and it’s a mixture of #1 addressing you and your concerns for her past suffering, her passing, and how you always want to make sure she was loved.
She is here with me I can feel her breath on my left shoulder. And it’s odd because the ashes from the Palo santo I’m burning have made their way over my left shoulder several times before that.
But yes, immediate rush of feelings before diving in, also consist of the let down she felt from all of the humans who failed her before you. She’s working through letting that go still I think, or maybe just remembering. But above her love and peace shine through and she owes that all to you she says.
She says she worked very hard for her previous owners and tried her best, I see her doing fairly well on the track and she recognized that she did well for them. But then one day it just wasn’t enough.
She shows me some violent things between then and now and then being in the kill pen. I told her that’s enough she didn’t have to explore that anymore or indulge and she needs to let that part of her life go. But she knows this. It’s almost like the last…almost year but not quite a year.. that time she had with you and your family made it all worth it. She knows you loved her for who she was and not something she had to offer. You didn’t ask anything of her but she was always sure to be on her best behavior because she felt so grateful but not only that, because she knew she couldn’t give you anything else physically so she wanted to be the best girl for you.
She definitely recognized that her time in this realm was ending sooner rather than later, and I think that’s why I kept thinking of her throughout the last week, week and a half. I’m not sure if you spoke to her about it to prepare her but it seems like that, I almost see you talking sweetly to her.
Along with her popping up in my thoughts the past few weeks, she’s been telling me for that time as well, about a purple or a pinkish colored coat. You send me a picture of her wearing a blue blanket so Idk if she has two blankets or if that colored coat has significance to you that I’m unaware of but I just thought I’d mention it because she kept presenting that to me as words in my mind, or an idea that is not my own.
She recognizes that there were a lot of people involved with getting her to your home. She sees a lot of faces and feels a lot of energy from people from all over the place and she feels them wishing her well, wishing her comfort and peace and happiness but not only as she passed but before then. She also knows all of these faces and energies that helped her get home to you. But she knows you ultimately were the one to…she sends me a feeling that does not translate to the English language. But the closest thing I can describe it as, is she sees you as leader of the herd and she knows you to have accepted her and wanted her there, that ultimately it was your decision if that makes sense. You’re the reason came home. And she really does think of your farm as home. She shows me no homes before that. She thinks of everything as temporary. Yours is a permanent home. She sends me feelings of warmness in my chest and just pure love and she appreciates that I portray that of the permanency of her forever home. Even though forever was not what you and I think of it as, it was forever to her. You gave her forever happiness and love. I can just feel how sweet she is. And I can tell she had some major physical ailments going on. And going back to that initial rush of emotions, I always get side tracked because so much comes rushing at me at once and I can’t type as fast as I can download the info..
she showed me pictures of her having a hard time moving and sometimes the wet pasture didn’t help and she was very concerned and knew it was realistic to go through the winter. She shows my pictures of her, in the snow, but with no winter coat of fur on her. I think this was her way of saying “i honestly knew this summer coat of hair was my last season change” or something along those lines. And she sends me a big deep breath as I say this I’m actually taking a deep breath, she’s relieved, so relieved and grateful for your decision and really respects you for being so compassionate especially where others lacked compassion towards her. These horses remember everything that people do to them. She shows me what I think is a woman, dropping her off at the kill pen to prove that. And it just further justifies the act of kindness you bestowed onto her and there should be no doubt in your mind she doesn’t want you to ever doubt yourself or think you didn’t portray your love enough. She really loves you❤️

If it doesn’t get easier to read no matter how many times you do it.
I always felt her unconditional love when looking in her eyes. She never did anything wrong and she touched many people deep inside.

As hard as this is, it’s what I’m suppose to do.
Not all are sunshine stories and can be rehomed with the perfect ending.

I’m having a hard time coming to peace with letting honeybee go…
I just came across the reading we did on here when she came from the killpen.

Please forgive any spelling or grammar mistakes. Hit these readings while they are happening and I'm not always able to fix the mistakes before it sends
Hershey
so she comes through pretty quickly and pretty easily considering you said she came from the auction very recently. I've read several auction horses in the last week or so and every single one of them has been reluctant to connect with me or they will connect and then they shut down. She comes through without any hesitation and the first thing that I notice about her is that she has a very strong personality. When I connect with her she's not mean or aggressive but she stands up and she looks for me she's not nervous or anxious she wants to know and she wants to understand and she's definitely giving me an indication that she's ready if something is going to happen. So she is an alert for lack of a better term but I don't mean it in a bad way. She's just going to protect herself if she needs to but she's pleasant and she's sweet but this horse definitely is a strong personality.
So I have seen on the Internet about the horses at the KPN recently so I know she was at the auction and you mentioned in your email to me and so I show her the pictures that you sent to me and I also show her some Other pictures that are basically empty except for her and the reason I do that is so that I can have her fill in the picture and that's how I understand what happened before she got to the auction. She definitely acknowledges the pictures that you sent an I I get an overwhelming sense of fear and dread from her. She makes me feel sad and scared and her whole temperament changes when I show her these pictures. She showing me that she understands that something very bad was going to happen she doesn't show me that she knows what was going to happen and most horses don't understand but she does understand it was something very bad and horses are very intuitive to their surroundings and all of her surroundings and all the horses around her had this same sense of doom and anxiety and they all know something very very bad is happening to them.
In the pictures that I sent to her where it doesn't have anything but her in them she puts a woman and this would be before the auction and she shows me a woman that she recognizes uh somebody that was kind to her and somebody that she trusted and I can't see who this woman is I don't have a clear enough picture but this woman was not connected or related to the people that owned her. I don't know if you know who this woman is I know you mentioned a friend of yours knew this horse but she's showing me very clearly this older woman and this would be a mother type possibly a little bit older maybe a grandmother type and she was very kind to her. She is showing me that there was aggressive behaviors towards her when she wasn't being compliant. That's the best way for me to explain the picture that she show me you mentioned to me that there was an issue with her pelvis and what I'm seeing is that she felt. But I'm seeing this happen because there was aggressive handling and I can't see exactly what was being done but she was fighting what was going on and that's how she fell. She doesn't show me if she was being used on a farm like possibly for the Amish which I've seen a lot of very recently she does not confirm that to me the only thing that she confirms to me is that she was being roughly handled she was fighting something and flipped over. So I don't know if that helps you as far as her pelvis but it that's what she's showing me and then she shows me a picture of that half of her body so that's how I'm tying that together
when I ask her about pain or discomfort in other parts of her body she showing me almost her entire body. She's showing me a lot of front end tightness and discomfort but I'm seeing that because she's trying to take the weight off of her back end. So from her back to her shoulders I see the most discomfort besides the hind end. She's definitely showing me that she's compensating but she's definitely feeling like it's a more normal thing for her. So she is acclimating to whatever is going on in her back end but it is creating this chronic soreness throughout the rest of her body. When I try to focus in on certain areas and I ask her is there pain here is there pain here she basically just blows me off and she wants me to know she's fine. She's extremely tough and resilient and she doesn't want to not be OK because she's showing me she wants and needs to have a job and she wants to be useful where she is now. She shows me you but she also shows me an older person connected to you that she understands helped her period she's acknowledging to me that you and this other person R the ones she recognizes as the people who brought her away from this horrible place. she recognizes you are her saviors for lack of a better term she's putting hearts around you and she's letting me know she thinks you so much she has more to give she's showing me her life is not done she didn't want it to be over she knows she can still be useful. She just keeps putting hearts around you when she shows me this and she's telling me I can still be you search them I can help them I can do things for them. She's so appreciative in the pictures that she's showing me it's almost like she doesn't know how to be as thankful as she feels.
I let her know that she is safe she doesn't have to worry and she says she knows that. She says you have told her that and she believes you. The most interesting thing about her is that she already trusts you and she's probably the very first horse I've ever read that came from such a horrible situation and trusts somebody so quickly and so easily. She's showing me that she doesn't go down without a fight she wanted to find a way out and she's so grateful. The pictures she showing me are really unbelievable. The fact that she's able to trust somebody after the pictures she showed me that she's been through is just remarkable. This is a very strong willed horse she will tell you everything you need to know about her and she's telling me that if you just listen and pay attention she will talk to you and she will tell you.
I hope this helps you and I see while her back end is an issue for her it's going to take awhile but her body is going to continue to be sore but she's showing me that she's willing to do what she needs to to make make her body feel OK to me everything feel OK and to be useful. But you should know that she is so grateful she is beyond grateful.
Best wishes and I hope you please keep me up to date on how she progress is. This horse was never gonna go down without a fight

Unfortunately when you save an injured horse you never know how it’s going to end.
The curse of loving them is when we have to give them back to a better place.
The only comfort is knowing they didn’t have to go on the Canada truck.

We have decided to not let Honeybee go thru another winter. She is really struggling to get around with her leg being so twisted. We are afraid she will fall again then it gets icy. She is such a sweet horse and we hate to see her struggle and to be in pain.

Anyone that want to come and see her now would be the time. 💜

Rascal looks so good now but Unfortunately he is still in a lot of pain. We are treating for lymes to make sure it’s not part if the problem. He is showing lameness in every corner and it’s hard to say what’s the worst for the day. He is very stiff and today it seems like the shoulders are worst. he moves like a horse with fractured scapula. We are giving him some more time to see if he will snap out of it. we don’t really have the funds to do full body scans. we had the vet out and we decided to give him a couple more months and try to pain relieve him and see if the doxycycline will help. He is very sweet and is heartbreaking to realize that we might not be able to make him comfortable enough. He has a triple thick soft straw bed and he’s been laying down a lot. If we knew what happened to him it would’ve been so much easier to try to help him. To me it looks like he was in a buggy car accident.
