Let’s talk about ticks!!

I had a dog on the table today for his spring cleanup and found 5 ticks!

Be sure to check your dog (yourself and kids too!) after being outside, and talk to your vet about protection. There are also options at the pet store and feed stores so be sure to look into something to protect your pet!

It’s tick season, and because of that, Public Health Ontario has published a map demonstrating the estimated highest risk areas for Lyme disease province wide.

As the winter months are upon us, proper paw care is essential!

If you notice your dog chewing on their paws after being out in the snow, it may be because they have some snowballs stuck in the hair.

Marley was in today for a bath and tidy and we cleaned up those paws. She is now ready for snow!!

Another paw care tip is to use a paw balm. My favourite is Bee Savvy Honey’s paw balm. This beeswax, coconut oil and Olive oil balm is a great barrier (and moisturizer!) for winter salt and sand. You can find it in Arnprior at Bee Savvy Fine Foods. Just rub on each paw before heading out for a walk.

I had the cutest client this morning! This 5 month old beauty came in today for its first puppy visit. We introduced the clippers, had a bath and she did great with the blow dryer, as you can see in this first pic.

If you have a puppy, it is very important to regularly brush and play with your pup at home to make their grooming experience a good one! Daily touching of paws and face, running a brush over their hair(even if they don’t have much!) Even using your own hairdryer for its noise and blowing sensation is good practice for the groomers!

Who forgets to take a before photo? ME! EVERY. TIME. 🤪🙄

So here is the best I can do to give a transition comparison. Cause today’s was a big one!! While still trying to keep a bit of length, we cleaned this boy Koda today for the cooler weather.

If you would like to book a grooming appointment before the holidays be sure to send a message soon as we are starting to book up!

Ever wonder WHY your double coated dog needs grooming?? Sadie here is so much happier now that her undercoat is beside her😜

All double coated dogs need regular grooming, but most definitely during their heavy shedding seasons, spring and fall. Removing the undercoat will allow your dogs skin to breathe! This in turn will give them a healthier, shiny coat that will keep them warm, (or cool in the summer!). Leaving this too long will cause your dog pain and discomfort, cause skin issues, and will make the grooming process more difficult and stressful for your pup.

Regular grooming, (this can be anywhere from 8-12 weeks) plus home maintenance (brushing a couple times a week!) will reduce the amount of undercoat falling off your dog, will make them look less scruffy AND will make them a happier, healthier dog!

It will also help with your own sanity as it will drastically reduce shedding in your home!!

If you and your double coated dog are in need of a fall clean up to get ready for winter, send me a message!!

For those of you who are in the West Carleton area. I also groom out of my home in Fitzroy Harbour on Tuesdays and some Fridays.

Here I am able to do one on one appointments for small to medium dogs only. If you are unsure what size of dog you have… if I can lift it, I can most likely groom it 🤣🤣

You can message me on this page or by cell 613-552-1639
