Thank you so much Valley Veterinary Emergency & Referral Center for sharing our work AND actively helping our mission.

Valley’s nurse assistant Elaine and operations manager Christine attended our program in Greece this past July. They both worked tirelessly to help the stray cats we assisted and spayed/neutered in partnership with Animal Welfare Karpathos - Φιλοζωική Δράση Καρπάθου
❤️🙏🏻

Dr. Anna Katogiritis is one of our beloved relief veterinarians. She founded a wonderful international program designed to help make a difference in the lives of many animals all over the world. We hope you’ll take a moment to share this info to help support her incredible cause:

Veterinary Global Aid, Inc (VGA), is a 501c3 registered non profit based in Washington DC. VGA was founded by Dr. Anna Katogiritis with the goal of providing pro-bono veterinary care to animals in need internationally, while also empowering kids and youth to take positive action for the animals within their communities. Dr. Anna's volunteer work has been featured in numerous media outlets over the years, including CNN Travel and has awarded her the "40 under 40" philanthropic award by the Greek America Foundation. Having worked closely with Dr. Jane Goodall (DBE, UN Messenger of Peace), Dr. Anna believes that if we want to achieve a long lasting positive impact for the animals we must include youth in the process and inspire and empower them to take action as well. For this reason, VGA invests heavily its time and resources to educate youth during each of its international campaigns.

In addition, VGA provides training opportunities for veterinarians and consultations for complex veterinary cases, as the organization recognizes that not all veterinarians across the globe have access to specialty care. VGA strives to provide excellence of care to domestic and wild animals and for this reason all veterinarians and nurses who participate as volunteers are required to have a minimum 2 years experience and undergo interviews to assess their knowledge and comfort level.

All donations are tax deductible and any help is appreciated and needed!

🐱Happy International Cat Day ❤️

Millions of stray cats are in dire need of veterinary care, and a forever loving home. Help us provide much needed medical care to more cats in need around the globe by supporting our work.

This past month, our animal welfare program ended in Greece with more than 180 cats helped and provided with spay/neuters, vaccinations, deworming and other essential surgeries.

As we are getting ready for our next program this November we ask for your financial support so we can continue to reach more stray cats in need 🐱

Thank you so much on behalf of VGA,

Dr. Anna Katogiritis
Founder/ President, Veterinary Global Aid

‼️Attention: the heat wave is affecting many animals.‼️
💦Please consider providing water for the strays and wildlife in need.

This video was sent to us by a friend in , where the temperature today especially is high.

📸Notice the 6 month old kitten is breathing with his mouth open due to the extreme heat.

Animals are suffering in the heat, especially in cities where it is more difficult to find water.

💦 please place small buckets of fresh water in accessible and safe spaces. It is the least we can do ❤️🙏🏻

Our program this July would not have been possible without th hard work, love and compassion of all the volunteers who poured their hearts while helping hundreds of strays.
Thank you to our in country partners Animal Welfare Karpathos - Φιλοζωική Δράση Καρπάθου for making this program another success!

🐶Pepper was found emaciated and covered in ticks (second photo). Thanks to donations received by VGA of Bravecto, Milbemax and other anti parasitics, our partners were able to provide immediate anti parasitic therapy to their newest rescue.

✨How your donations are used: meet Naomi ✨

We recently held a program in , and one of the many cats we treated and spayed was Naomi. This Kitty has had trouble defecating for months. After our program ended, she was sent to the mainland for radiographs and an ultrasound, and was found to have a narrow pelvic canal secondary to a traumatic injury. As a result she is developing megacolon (wide - stretched out- colon) leading to difficulty defecating. The spay surgery we provided was definitely life saving for this cat, as she would not have been able to pass kittens during a birthing process had she gotten pregnant.

💊VGA covered the costs for her medications thanks to your donations. They will be shipped to the island in one week ❤️

📚Youth education and outreach 📚

💡Did you know that part of VGA’s mission involves youth education? We believe that if we would like to improve animal welfare in the longterm, we must involve and inspire kids in the process.

👧🏻🧒🏾👦With all of our programs we ask to meet with kids and be given the opportunity to actively involve them as young volunteers when this is possible.

visits schools either a day before or the last day of our programs to connect with kids and youth. Their questions and enthusiasm always brings hope to the entire team. 🥰

✨During the last program in Greece- VGA co founders Dr. Anna Katogiritis and Dr. Thomas Cotrone donated a number of books 📚 to the local kindergarten. We were happy to see them used from tue first day ❤️

✅If you would like to support local schools in the areas we visit, either by donating relevant books or needed equipment please reach out to us. We would love to collaborate! 📧[email protected]

✨Spay/ neuter awareness month ✨

❤️
The importance of having a healthy population of strays cannot be over emphasised. Animals in the streets suffer from a number of diseases. To name a few: pneumonias, debilitating dental issues, ocular infections that often lead to blindness, and often times cancer.

🩺The purpose of a spay/ neuter and wellness program is not only to control the population of strays, but to also provide necessary and life saving therapies.

❌There is a myth we often hear: if you spay/ neuter animals… they will go extinct. There are billions of stray cats and dogs around the world. So the word “extinction” cannot be applied here- scientifically speaking. No one (unfortunately) will ever be able to sterilise the entire population of cats and dogs around the globe. And we say “unfortunately”, because animals in the streets do suffer.

🐱Domesticated cats and dogs rely on people. They were domesticated by people. Let’s not confuse them with lions and wolves. Our sensitivities should be directed at keeping the domesticated animals inside the house where they belong.

🦅🦜Let’s also consider that an overpopulation of stray cats does not help the environment as they have a direct negative impact on biodiversity (i.e migratory birds and so on).

❤️Our goal is to provide high quality veterinary care to the animals who need it the most, and to that end, we hope that you will join our cause and support us.

Dr. Anna Katogiritis ( ) and Dr. Andreas Palluch use a portable electrosurgery device during some of the spays to expedite the procedure safely and minimise the use of suture (ultimately better for the animal). Thank you Dr. Palluch for bringing the equipment to our program and sharing your knowledge with our team 🐱
