Everything you need to know about your kennel: CAUCASIAN SHEPHERD

Many Africans are not really dog lovers while those who are dog lovers don't really take Care of it like its part of the family member. This could be because of the kind of dog you own.

Here is a tip on how to know your dog better and plan for it: CAUCASIAN SHEPHERD

The Caucasian shepherd is a big dog and definitely not an apartment dog so the first thing you need to consider when thinking about getting one is the space you have to offer. Of course that you can invite your dog to live and play with you inside the house but it will surely need a spacious outdoor space, a yard, to move and to consider its territory.

Its herding instincts will probably make the dog protect the members of the family and sometimes try to make order when there are other people visiting or passing by close to the fence.

The difference between an aggressive dog and a protective dog lies in the degree of socialization that the dog benefits from, the way people in the family treat him and the training it receives. So some more essential things you need to offer to this kind of dog is your time, attention and money invested in proper dog training classes, for an ideal interaction.

ABOUT THE CAUCASIAN SHEPHERD DOG

The Caucasian Shepherd Dog is a large livestock guardian dog breed from the Caucasus Mountains, commonly bred in the mountainous regions of Transcaucasia, especially in Georgia.

The Caucasus Mountains are home to many of the oldest living molossoid landrace dogs, such as the Azerbaijani Volkodav, Azerbaijani Shepherd Dog and Georgian Shepherd Dog. During the 20th century the Soviet breeders selected some of these varieties among Caucasian dogs and created the Caucasian Shepherd Dog breed.

Since ancient times Caucasian mountain dogs have served shepherds in the Caucasus mountains as livestock guardian dogs, defending sheep from predators, mainly wolves, jackals and bears. Caucasian Shepherd Dogs served as guard dogs, bear hunting dogs and today they work as prison guard dogs in Russia.

There is a great variety of types among the Caucasian dogs depending on their home region. For almost a century, there has been two breed types and standards: The Mountain type, which is long-coated and has a heavier body mass than the Steppe type, a shorter-coated dog with a lighter body mass. Other names for the breed include Caucasian Ovcharka, Caucasian Sheepdog, Kawkasky Owtscharka, and Kaukasische Schaferhund.

PLACE YOUR ORDERS FOR YOUR GERMAN SHEPHERD BREED BOTH PURE AND REGULAR GSD BREEDS AVAILABLE IN NIGERIA.

German Shepherds are moderately active dogs and are described in breed standards as self assured.

The breed is marked by a willingness to learn and an eagerness to have a purpose. They are curious, which makes them excellent guard dogs and suitable for search missions. They can become overprotective of their family and territory, especially if not socialized correctly. They are not inclined to become immediate friends with strangers. German Shepherds are highly intelligent and obedient, as well as protective of their owners.

These dogs are highly intelligent and will show undying devotion to their master but they are dogs that need company and stimulation to be at their best. It is however, important to remember that this is a working breed and that they do have certain characteristics that some people might find difficult to live with.

The German Shepherd should be steady, loyal, self assured, courageous and willing and should not be nervous over aggressive or shy. Nervous aggression is something that we are now seeing more often as a result of bad breeding. It is sad but there has always been indiscriminate breeding of German Shepherds right from the start, which has lead to problems with temperament and health.

Protect your home and family; own a dog

The use of dogs as guardians is well known since ancient times. The Romans used to put mosaics (Cave canem mosaics) at the entrance of the houses to warn visitors and intruders of the presence of dangerous dogs at the property.

One of the first dog types used as guardians were the ancestral mastiff-type landraces of the group known as Livestock guardian dogs which protected livestock against large predators such as wolves, bears and leopards. Orthrus is a famous example of a livestock guardian dog from the Greek mythology known for guarding Geryon's red cattle.

Some ancient guard dogs in more urban areas, such as the extinct bandogges, were chained during the day and released at night to protect properties, camps and villages.
