Quick gun dog session after work!
🖤Jambo
-Wait (impulse control)
-Gun fire (sound desensitization)
-Free (release)
-Retrieve (bring me the bird)
✨BIG PARTY✨
It’s important to start this in small successions to not overwhelm the dog or make the job confusing. Each step was taught individually, and slowly added together to get the chain videod below. My phone storage was full so did not ge the full retrieve! 🥲
So proud of this boy. 🥰

This is Lucy, she is also a SDiT I have at Snowy Pines White Labradors. She is learning to nose boop my leg so that she can alert her handler of a high heart rate. 🖤 She is doing super well and this was only after one lesson once we had generalized the nose target behavior!
🐾Today I taught a new task to Dutch. I taught him to “pick up” on command while practicing with different objects and textures.
🖤This was only our first lesson, but he learned very quickly and we were picking up keys by the end!
❓How is this beneficial to service dog handlers?
This allows some in pain, has trouble moving, or that is wheelchair bound if they drop something and aren’t able to pick it up. That’s why it’s so important to introduce new textures/shapes when teaching this.
‼️Today he picked up: a pen, baby keys, and a clicker. He also picked up a set of real keys and a leash (not videod).
🖤Stimulus control and generalization is probably the most important aspects in service dog training. It lets us really know if the dog is ready to task anywhere at anytime.
🐾Today Rogue and I worked on 3 different interruption tasks at Starbucks after a zoom meeting. Previously she was in a down stay socializing with the world.
The 3 Alerts Are:
🤎leg shaking interruption (paw)
‼️nail picking interruption (nose boop)
👊🏼closed fist interruption (jumping up)
If you watch closely you will see her get more aggressive with the leg alert as I didn’t stop shaking after the initial interruption. This is important as it shows she understands what she need to do for the handler! 😍
Her reward was leftover cream cheese from my bagel
🐾Please share this post so everyone can have a chance to show off their pooch!

🖤Erya is a 9 month old GSP who learned to “Bow” tonight! We taught this behavior by ”capturing”, she bows a lot on her own so I waited for her to offer it, and I immediately marked and rewarded. Within in a couple sessions she started offering it more and more, and eventually I paired a cue with it to get the final product you see below!
✅Capturing can be compared to a picture. You wait for the perfect moment before you ”capture” the image. Same with capturing a behavior. You are setting them up to offer it on their own…. and CLICK when the behavior presents itself!
📣Does your dog have stimulus control?
❓What is stimulus control? Stimulus control is the process of teaching a dog to perform a specific behavior in response to a cue while ignoring/avoiding performing the same behavior in response to another cue.
🖤What does that mean? It means if I ask my dog to sit, I want them to sit immediately, not down, or perform another behavior. If I don’t ask my dog to down, I don’t want a sit, and if I don’t ask for anything then nothing happens.
🐾Here Rogue is working on stimulus control on her sit, down, and nose. By adding in the word “orange” we are testing her stimulus control to see if she performs/doesn’t perform a behavior with the presence of a new cue, and that she performs the behaviors being asked.
🐶Why is this important? Because you want to make sure you know your dog understands what you are asking. This is especially important for service dogs who need to perform tasks (the correct ones) as soon as is it needed and not guessing what they are doing!
Hope this is helpful and enjoy watching Rogue! 😉
🎄With Christmas upon us, everyone is going to be decorating, moving stuff around, having guests over, and eating more 😜
🎅But what about when we want our dogs to not be under our feet or where we can watch them while we redesign our house?
The “place” command is great for so many things including:
❤️eliminating/avoiding separation anxiety
💚a place to go when the doorbell rings
🖤if you ,the owner, need a few minutes to watch TV
❤️Prevent them from chasing the vacuum
💚a great way to get SUPER cute pics
🖤having them relax while guests are over without putting them up
(Just to name a few)
😊What would/do you use place for?
Here’s a Timelapse of Kio doing place while I start working on the Christmas trees because I know he will steal something while I’m not looking! 😝
