Firstly I’d like to thank you all for your understanding on my Christmas break and to wish you all, including your tortoises (those awake and those currently asleep), the biggest & best wishes for 2024 🥰🐢
I have now messaged all my regular pay as you go & monthly subscription slots re starting up again post Christmas ✉️ All reminder based orders will be sent on Tuesdays going forward, which will mean Tuesdays are closed once these spaces are filled. We will currently stick with 2 postal days. Thursdays will be ‘open orders’ for returning customers as usual ✉️
We will open to new customers but unfortunately we simply can’t sustain any new customers at this time, due to winter conditions- we’re so sorry. It’s so sad to turn away anyone and the enquiries are always so appreciated. We know this bout of interest will fizzle come spring with new forage growth and other sellers reopening so have decided not to create a waiting list at this time & will post up for new customer slots when able 🥰
Firstly we would like to wish everyone of you the most wonderful Christmas season 🥰🐢
We never take for granted any of our customers & at this time more than ever we are reflecting on what has been a wild and wonderful year supplying fresh forage to all of your shell babies 🐢
We will be closed until the 9th-
I will be taking a full week off away from messages to spend some overdue time with my family ♥️🎄
As always those of you who are pre booked, subscribed or on a reminder based system will be first priority and contacted directly for the first order slots of the year (9th) and anything after this will be posted up on this page for any returning or regulars to place their orders as they usually would 🥰 Christmas break has meant our usual slots are all out of sorts so I’d like to ensure I get my timings correct before offering anything 🐢
Merry Christmas everybody 🐢🎄🎅🏼 🎁
I’m so sorry everyone, we’ll be back to it next week 😌🐢
Orders have gone super fast this week- I’m now down to my last 10 slots 🐢 open to all 🐢
🥰 small availability left for this Thursdays post (delivered Friday)
Thank you so so much everyone 🥰🐢
Any orders paid for or taken after this point will now be posted on Thursday 26th 😊🌱🐢
Tiny Tortasaurus enjoying this weeks Tuckshop 😍
I absolutely LOVE seeing your tortoises enjoying their tuckshops and ‘meeting’ them via messenger and posts. It really is the best part of the Tuckshop 🐢
A typical lunch for my 2 rescued leopard tortoises 🐢
Leopards are grassland species so their diet should be 70% grass & hay. Like MANY rescue leopards I find it difficult to get my guys to eat any grass or hay. How I go about adding extra fiber into their diet (in addition to them grazing is:
🌱 Mixing high value but healthy items chopped into their hay & grass (below you will see me chopping ribwort plantain, dandelion, bristly ox tongue, cats ears and chicory)
🌱 including a rehydrated mixture of Timothy meadow nuggets (when rehydrated they give added hydration and it sticks across the food items).
🌱 grating cucumber for additional hydration & temptation
🌱 I also sometimes blitz the hay rather than feeding ‘whole’ as pictured and sprinkle on weeds as you would do with calci powder. Having damp forage will help the fibre coat said forage.
If you have a Mediterranean species who you are struggling to get to eat a varied weed diet then you can:
🌱 Finely chop items together. Preferably using a safe forage item that you know they definitely really enjoy. For example if trying to get off of a ‘incorrect’ diet and you don’t want to go cold turkey you can start 90% usual diet 10% weed diet until across 10 days you are feeding a 90% weed diet and 10% old diet.
🌱 grating cucumber
🌱 hand feeding
🌱 sprinkling flowers as a topper (this doesn’t work for all tortoises but some are drawn to particular colours)
Persistence and variation is key to all tortoise diets 🌼🌱🐢
“Once your tortoise has accepted a better diet, its health will go from strength to strength, and its shell should grow normally. In captivity, it is almost impossible to provide the same diet that a tortoise would have in the wild, but you can do your best. Quite simply, your tortoise needs to be eating a diet as close as possible to what it would eat in its natural habitat. It will help to ensure that your tortoise has a long and healthy life and only
I’m still a little slow to respond but feeling much improved- thank you to everyone for such kind wishes 🥰 orders will be going out as usual this week 💪🏼
We’ve had a very different kind of Tuckshop fan this week 😍 🦜
Norma chowing down on some Sow Thistle🌼 it’s the big long neck stretch for the flower head for me 🥰
Norma and her pal Dorris have been tuckshopping since the very beginning- I absolutely adore seeing them enjoy their bags over the months 💛 All orders should be received by tomorrow afternoon- can’t wait to see what your tortoises all think of this weeks mix- ps it includes sow thistle! 💛
Sound on for optimal chomps 🤩
We’ve had a bit of a breakthrough with our leopards after being here for almost a month. Both are starting to gain confidence and weight. I have been so saddened to see how terrified they are of EVERYTHING (including grass 🤦🏻♀️) but with persistence of steel I’ve managed to get them on a complete grazed diet of mostly grass and weeds with the addition of some cucumber and Opuntia pads for hydration ✨ SO thrilled 😁
I have been SO excited to announce the arrival of this pair of beautiful rescued Leopard tortoises to the Tuckshop family 🐆🐢
Im allowing them time to adjust to their new surroundings, husbandry and diet before I begin sharing lots more. They have been kept in a very chaotic environment without correct housing and diet, so I cannot wait to start to see the positive changes as they settle into their new lives here 🌱🌸🐢🐢
Do we have any other lovely Leopards here? 🐆
Name suggestions welcomed 💭
Wood betony is covering all corners of the Tuckshop at the moment, it looks and smells so beautiful 🐝
