Life skills in day school today! Since it was gray and rainy (and COLD!) we took training inside and worked on attention and engagement in an exciting pet store. The pups are permitted - even encouraged - to look around and take everything in, and rewarded for making the choice to offer attention. This builds behavior that makes your dog more likely to choose attention on you, but also able to politely cope with other stimuli.
Pickle and Abby - Rabble Rousers 10/26
Does your reactive dog look like Pickle and Abby? If not, what are you waiting for?! Come join a session of Rabble Rousers on 11/09. If you’re just starting out, our virtual Foundations class will set you up for in person work. If you’re ready for the next step, we will work live and in-person in our Society Debut class!
What do you see here? Avoiding reactivity with Reign! Miss Reign is a challenging girl - she doesn’t love the snacks, and her threshold for frustration barking is variable - and sometimes she needs a LOT of distance. We had been working in this field for a little while - as a few sets of people (and some dogs, the TOUGHEST challenge) walked by. But there’s so many things I love about these two repetitions - why her first “look” the criteria was lowered dramatically, her choices after she looked, and then why the second one was much more “polished.” Sound off in the comments and I’ll add my thoughts in a bit!
Dexter certainly had a memorable last day of Day School with us today - thanks to a tasty puppuccino! We’ll miss you bud!
Rabble Rousers went LIVE tonight!!! Wondering why we have our Foundations class virtually? It’s so once you join our in person Society Debut class, Night 1 can look like this 🥰
Snoop doesn’t get Sunday Scaries because for him, Monday is Day School day!
(In case you thought Day School was all work and no play 😜)
Just @dexterisntalab was able to come out today for our Snack Walk, so we did something a little different and got into some busier territory! I think the little guy we were watching wanted to join up though! 😂
Loose leash walking is a challenging skill for curious puppies, but Arlo rocked it in preschool this week! Puppy Preschool takes place on Monday afternoons for pups 6 months and under - and we’ve got openings! Reach out to register today!
Happy Friday! Cheering on our grown up dogs today - I’ve known Walter since he was about 5 months old, and he’s had a rough go of it. People, sounds, animals, you name it - it’s all scary, and he’s ready to meet life teeth first. 6 months ago, he would have really been challenged to hold it together as these folks passed by on the path we’d been walking on. Today? It’s just as easy to sniff around until they go away. Go Walter! 🥰
Preschool puppies keeping cool this week!
Check out our chilled out Model Citizen dogs! What a gorgeous evening to practice settling and place behaviors 🥰
Clover and Gari - two environmentally sensitive puppies in very different ways - getting used to each other in preschool today!
True friendship: Dexter holding a stick for Stella to munch on 😋
Can you tell that our Day School pups have been loving their summer field trips?
Reign nails those polite greetings! What you’re looking at is the cumulative result of a lot of hard work from this little girl! Reign, like many German Shepherds, has some challenges with reactivity and frustration tolerance. She LOVES her people, but goes out of her mind excited to see them! She also isn’t super treat-motivated when she’s out with us. Today we practiced crossing the parking lot one at a time to say hello to her - progressing forward only when she offered a sit and stopping or retreating when she got up. Her reward? Let us get close enough for a release and you get ALL THE SNUGGLES. Pretty rewarding for her trainers, too 🥰
Louis grabbing some shade while new student Clover got some snuggles today at preschool! 🍀
Sunny might just be the most polite puppuccino eater we’ve ever seen! 😋
Lots of new friends to be made at Preschool today!
Puppy Preschool 4/26
Happy Graduation pups! Thanks to Foley's Dog Training for renting us her yard - the puppies had a blast and we will be back!!!
Biscuit, kindly waving goodbye to the winter weather, and welcoming in the 80 degrees that’s rolled in this week! Stay cool everybody! ☀️

Shoutout to our buddy Fitz! Fitz approaches life with a LOT of enthusiasm, which means preparing for the CGC, which involves meeting a lot of stimuli calmly, is hard work. Here he practices what might be the toughest part of the test for him - walking through a crowd! Right now he’s still getting reinforced through the exercise, but as he gets better and more comfortable with the set up, we will start delaying reinforcement until after he’s all done, so the practice can look just like the test itself!
Our puppies got to explore a new location this week! Positive experiences in novel environments is a huge part of socialization, especially for pups who can be a little worried about new things. They had a great time exploring the new spot, and we were lucky to have new pal Cooper, boarding with @sitnstaytraining , around to help show the puppies the ropes!
