Boone is becoming a well educated boy, who will have a solid foundation before being started under saddle. Here’s some of the things we’ve been working on, as well as lunging and doing everything shown in the videos while saddled and bridled, he’s beginning to get the hang of ground driving which I haven’t gotten a video of yet, and he’s been desensitized to many “scary things.” Before winter I’m hoping to pony him on some short, easy trail rides too!
This one has a bright future ahead of him ❤️

🔴 Tip Tuesday from 5 Star! 🔴

A common question that we get here at 5 Star Equine is: How thick of a pad do I need?

Thickness will depend on length of time in the saddle, weight of rider, and the length of time spent riding as well as the style or type of riding that you do.

⭐️ 1/2" under pad - best for showing reining, cutting or pleasure horses when you still need protection, yet want to put a colorful blanket over the under pad for show purposes

⭐️ 3/4" - best for daily training sessions of 1 hour or less. Can be used under a VERY thin blanket to show.

⭐️ 7/8" - best all-around thickness for regular use. Recommended for trail riding, team penning, cutting, reining, and barrel racing.
▪️Minimum recommended thickness for gear/rider weight combinations of 200 lbs. or more, or for rides of more than 4 hours at a time or over rough terrain.

⭐️ 1" - best for heavier riders or for especially long or hard use. Designed with ranch work in mind, for roping, performance, c**t starting or heading to the mountains with lots of gear.

⭐️ 1 1/8" "The Rancher" thickness - Specially engineered for team roping, calf roping, steer stopping and performance. Great for long hours in the saddle!

Last night I got the email stating that this boy is now registered under my name! 😁 I was pretty excited so I started googling a little about Blackburn horses, and I came across a page that said this:

"The goal in breeding these Blackburn horses is to produce foals that have conformation, disposition, speed, ability, & versatility, with good trainable minds, good arena prospects, all-around ranch horses, or family riding horses."

Boone has great conformation, a good mind, and the best disposition. I'm excited to see what this boy can do once he's broke. He's going to be a nice one!

Another little update: Quinn has been sold!
She learned so much while she was here but some of my favorite things about her were:
•she would sidepass down the WHOLE arena if asked
•she’d give a flying lead change
•she’d jump whatever I asked her to
•she was sensitive enough that she’d change her bend JUST by me turning my head and slightly shifting my body weight
😍😍😍 her new owner absolutely loves her! 😊

CROSS FIBRE GROOMING
Grooming is a great way to bond with your horse, locate tight spots and lightly massage the muscles. Cross fibre grooming is excellent for keeping the fascia conditioned, helping to smooth sticky fascia and break down adhesions. It stimulates circulation, increases relaxation and promotes release.

Using the flat of your hands or your horse’s favourite brush or rubber curry comb, groom the hair at right angles to the direction of growth which is usually also at right angles to the underlying muscles.

Cross fibre grooming, you horse will thank you for it.
