Happy International Day of Friendship.

Friendship in a multi dog household is not about every dog becoming best friends. It is about creating an environment where dogs develop appropriate social skills, respect boundaries, and coexist peacefully.

In my home I allow fair, well timed corrections…most often from Maggie. My role is not to micromanage every interaction within my pack but to ensure communication stays appropriate and that every dog feels relaxed in our environment.

The goal is not constant play, but calm neutrality, mutual respect, and the ability to share space without conflict.

Pro-social work is how I build that foundation. It means intentionally reinforcing the behaviors that support peaceful coexistence by choosing calm over chaos, respecting space, offering appropriate greetings, and disengaging when needed. It is not about forcing interaction, but about giving dogs the skills and confidence to navigate social situations and make better choices on their own.

That is how I build real friendships between dogs in my home.

🎆 Fireworks season is closer than you think! The best time to start preparing your dog for loud noises is BEFORE the fireworks begin.

Noise sensitivities don’t improve overnight. By starting now with gradual desensitization and positive reinforcement, you can help your dog build confidence and reduce stress when fireworks season arrives.

🐾 Start with sounds at a very low volume
🐾 Pair them with your dog’s favorite rewards
🐾 Move at your dog’s pace
🐾 Keep sessions short and successful

Remember: the goal isn’t to force your dog to “get used to it” it’s to change how they feel about the sounds.
