Is there anyone out there?

Not to be dramatic but it‘s starting to feel like there is no one for Hazel OR Jip. 💔

They are both aggressive to animals.. living in a building.. full.. of.. animals. 😅 It is getting hard to sustain this living situation. Our shelter cat Jacko is no longer safe to roam the halls he calls home, the cats who escape from their rooms playfully are in jeopardy.. not to mention the fact that both dogs loathe the sight of one another. It’s scary to think what would happen if they ever got in contact by a mistake. This post is not to scare anyone away from them but to tell potential adopters the honest truth. They need to be set up for success with only the right people who can handle them. They are not easy dogs, they have ended up in the shelter because they aren’t easy. Not everyone should or can handle an Akita. That is a fact. With all that aside they are sweet at their core and worthy of love and great homes.

Hazel has grown so much in her listening skills since arriving at the shelter. She loves us and pines for us. She would love a home and would hands down be the most loyal friend you have ever had. 🥹 She is special.. a hard case no doubt but so worthy of a great home and people to love her. She’s spayed, around 6-7 years old. Loves people, can’t be around animals.

Jip is a handful and a half. He has never been properly socialized with people or animals. He jumps, mouths and is used to being yelled at to listen - therefore he doesn’t. He is a strong, 80 pound puppy who needs a strong yet gentle owner. Experience is key and training is a must. Jip is neutered and only 18 months old. He can and will learn to be the best dog ever with the right guidance. Again, absolutely no animals in the household.

Both dogs have rehab training set up with Ruff Around the Edges - Dog Training and Rehabilitation. They just need owners or fosters to get them there! They need HELP! Please share and tag anyone who might be a good fit or can help them out. 🙏🤞❤️

Jip is a non registered Akita looking for a special home. This absolute beauty is 18 months old, recently neutered, dewormed & vaccinated. Jip loves people but is known to be aggressive toward other animals. He is a puppy in a massive (80 pound) body and has no idea how strong he is. Jip hasn’t been socialized with other animals or many people. He does listen for food, will sit and give paw for treats but otherwise needs work on his manners and basic training. Jip will jump up, pull on the leash and sometimes excitedly mouth. For these reasons we feel he needs a home without young children, he wouldn’t hurt anyone on purpose but easily could by mistake. Akita’s are an athletic, powerful, protective breed. It’s not uncommon for them to be weary of strangers and unknown animals. Experience with this breed would be considered an asset. 🤞✨ They’re also known to be silly, affectionate and thrive on human companionship. Jip really needs a dog savvy human to put time and effort into his training. With love and patience he will be an absolute dream dog! ADOPTED

LILY recently came to the shelter after going unclaimed at the pound. She is approximately 5 years old. Lily was carrying some extra weight when she first came in, but had no problem losing weight since she loves going for walks :) She walks well on leash but is very strong. She requires a home with no other animals. Lily is spayed and fully vaccinated. She can't wait to find her furever home!

ADOPTED!

Buddy is a 2 year old Rottweiler mix. He’s a short and blocky character who loves to bounce around on his little legs. He’s perfectly medium sized, weighing in around 45-50 pounds. Buddy is already neutered so that’s one less thing to worry about. He has a really sweet personality, very bubbly, outgoing and happy. He loves people and gets along fine with other animals. This little Buddy is hoping to be your new best friend. 🐶❤️

Meet Bailey,

She was found roaming in Shoal Harbour. We did look for an owner and did receive some information saying that she was owned so she will be staying with us to find a new home! We were told she is a young dog around 4 yrs old.

Bailey has itchy skin and was constantly scratching so she went o the vet for a visit. She is currently on a food recommended by our vet for allergies. This is likely going to be an ongoing thing for her the rest of her life unfortunately so whomever adopts her will have be prepared for future vet visits and food from the vet.

She is a very sweet and mild dog and lets us do whatever with her. She was great at the vet and getting a bath & her nails done at the shelter. We think she will be wonderful with children because of her temperament. We are unsure about cats at this time.

She still needs to be spayed and has had a vaccine, flea treatment and deworming. When she is feeling a bit better she will be spayed by us but she can still go to a home in the meantime.
