A Little About Katie

I know how much a pet is loved by a family, most often being regarded as a part of the family themselves. That is why I will always treat your animal as my own - with nothing but love, respect, and patience. I was very fortunate to grow up with a large amount of animal friends, from smaller friends such as rabbits, dogs and cats to slightly larger ones such as horses. Having

rehomed several rescue dogs, I am confident, calm and patient with all animals, drawing from a wealth of personal experiences. I started my career by working my way through an apprenticeship at an amazing, family run livery on the Shropshire/Staffordshire border, eventually becoming Assistant Manager. During this time, I gained masses of confidence and knowledge, working with horses from as young as 1 year old until retirement age, often being left as sole charge of the yard whilst the Manager went abroad. I thoroughly enjoyed my years at the yard, but eventually the time had come for me to move on to allow my career to grow and offer new opportunities. It was whilst I worked on a yard full time that I also started to take on personal clients, offering holiday cover for anyone who was unable to take their four legged friend with them. I thoroughly enjoyed the new experiences this gave me - continuing my experience of working with different types of horses (and other animals) of all sizes and temperaments. Even though I no longer work on a yard, I have not stopped learning. I am always looking to attend new CPD courses, especially horse psychology and behaviour, as well as continuing to ‘brush up’ on stable management skills. Learning about animals and the best ways to enrich their lives is one of my greatest passions.

📣⚠️ Important Message ⚠️📣

If you are booked in with me between now and the end of the year and I haven't already contacted you to re-confirm your appointments can you please reach out to do so as sadly I have also lost my schedule (My paper diary was lost a few weeks back to a leak in the house - it's one of those months!!).

I have a replacement phone but will not be able to access facebook through the day until further notice so if I haven't been in touch would you also please contact me so I can give you my daytime contact number.

Please note this does not apply to rolling bookings. Thank you.

With temperatures soaring and expected to climb until Friday this week, please note that I will be keeping a very close eye on the weather and will downgrade walks to garden play visits wherever necessary and any visits where you may be home to offer this yourself can be cancelled at no charge if preferred.

I will always do my very best to look after your pets and take their health and safety very seriously.

Some things you can do to help your pets in this heat are:

🪟close curtains/blinds to keep the sun out during the day

🆒 offer a cooling mat (or mats) for your pet to lie on, these are usually widely available in stores such as B&M or online. I’m happy to swap these out for new ones if I’m scheduled to see your pet and you have spares.

🚰 The most obvious but still worth a mention! Make sure your pet always has fresh water available

🚷 Make sure you do not walk/exercise your pets in the hottest parts of the day - early morning before 8am or after 8pm is preferrable when it’s cooler. A dog won’t die from a missed walk but it may die from heat stroke!

🐴 For equines, make sure they have access to shelter and shade, wether that’s natural hedgerow or a field shelter, or bring them in where possible.

Take care and stay safe in the heat,
Katie x

For anyone local who might be in need of a farrier, I can highly recommend Andy. Always patient and friendly, incredibly knowledgable whilst striving to learn more and keep up to date with research on all things equine! He transformed my own mare’s feet, and I credit him as the reason why my mare is now sound after hind leg injuries. I even have the X-rays to show how good his work is!

*LOCKDOWN UPDATE*

Good evening everyone, I hope this message finds you all safe and well.

Due to the upcoming lockdown, I regret to inform you that I can now only offer reduced services until December 2nd (at the earliest).

Until I hear differently, I am going to adhere to the regulations put in place over the previous lockdown. This means that I am able to attend some jobs in the interest of animal welfare. Key workers will also have priority for bookings.

As the latest guidance has specifically mentioned 'stables' in the outlines released so far, I will no longer be offering equine services unless you are a key worker who is in need of help. I apologise immensely for any inconvenience this causes.

If you have any concerns about animal care during the upcoming lockdown, please do send me a message and I'll be happy to discuss them with you.

Thank you for understanding, and for your continued support through this truly unique year!

Stay safe out there, Katie.

When I can take pics like this at work, I can’t help but think to myself about how lucky I am to call this my job. Very much enjoyed checking in on this handsome face (among others!) today to have play time and bathroom breaks. So well behaved and cuddly too! I am always happy to help and no job is too big or small. 🥰

How cute is this little one?! 😍 I had the pleasure of looking after the lovely Maple today, and even managed to introduce her to my kitten Tips as Maple’s mum wants her to meet lots of new animals! She has been a little star today and she settled so well with us for a lovely afternoon nap 😴
Thank you to Maple’s mummy for allowing me to share her with you! Can’t wait to see you both again in a couple of weeks! 🥰

Neutering (and spaying!) your pets is an important part of responsible pet ownership. And what’s more, there’s no shame in asking for help if it is needed! If you qualify for it, simply follow the steps below and you could receive financial assistance to get your pets neutered. 🤗 A great offer and helping hand for those in need.

An amazing offer from the RSPCA to help anyone who is in receipt of benefits, to assist them with the cost of neutering. Please contact them via the email address below to apply. 🐶
