Well, it’s taken me 3 days to post. We have, again, failed at breeding Lainey.

There is something with the Bernese Mountain Dog (the breed as a whole)…they are notoriously hard to breed, and they have short lives. The Bernedoodle, IMO, is an attempt to widen the gene pool and extend their life expectancy, among other things.

I can only assume the berner trait of infertility is strong in Lainey. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Now the debate begins. To spay and cut my losses, which was my initial knee jerk reaction, or try, just one more time (as many of my mentor breeders have been suggesting)

This was a hard hit for me. When your intention is to do things “by the book”, the financial, time, travel, planning, and emotional investment is large🐾

Very thankful for my breeder friends & mentors. Knowing you’re not alone lessens the sting…a bit.

I debated announcing as my ego took a bruising last time, and I’m not sure I can handle another failure, but we need ALL the good juju! 🙌 Lainey has her ‘lady friend’ and is at the vet 🎃 for her first prog. pull. Breeding should take place next week! Cross your fingers and toes for us, wear your pj’s inside out, put a spoon, or a dog biscuit, under your pillow, let the dog sleep with you…whatever it takes 🐾
