How many of you have had something like this happen to you? What was your reaction?

On the way home from a walk in the park we had an interesting scenario....the brown fence on the right after the black car a German Shepherd jumped the fence and charged Koa and I with the intent to bite. Things turned out totally fine, I’ve confidently dealt with many situations like this over the years and in my eyes it was a great training experience for both Koa and the German Shepherd. We ended up letting the German Shepherds owner know what happened and got the dog back into his house. Koa and I might go back and make friends with him at a later date, I’ll be sure to catch it all on video next time! 😂

I get a lot of questions about dog parks. Most owners are responsible with their dogs however, sometimes you get a dog that’s had a lack of exercise and they just explode into the dog park creating too much excitement for the other dogs around. I always recommend walking around the outside fence and observing what the energy level of the dogs are and how responsible the owners appear before you enter. If you don’t see behavior that you can trust it’s not a big deal just go for a nice walk, either way your dog is happy!! 🐕❤️🐕❤️

Why the name Qi_dog_training?

Qi-Definition:vital force that is inherent in all things

My first dogs name was Qi, I originally got him when I lived in Hilo on the Big Island, Qi was from Kona! To me he was the perfect dog, loyal, fearless, loving and always happy! We had years of fun exploring in the jungle, ocean and mountains together. When I moved to Seattle of course I brought him back with me. Unfortunately he ended up passing away way too soon from cancer. Even towards the end all he cared about was taking care of his pack and making sure we were all happy, he was and always will be my protector. I wanted to honor him by naming my dog training business after him.

When exercising your dog, try combining it with trick training. Start off with easier tricks and work your way up. It’s a great way to gain confidence in distracted training situations!!!
