This 8th of August 2024 the Quezon Veterinary Medical Association in partnership with the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian - Quezon and CityVet TayabasCity conducted a Free Seminar on Animal Facility Registration at New City Hall, Brgy. Baguio, Tayabas City. The speakers were from the Animal Health and Welfare Division of the Bureau of Animal Industry, Dr. Mark Joel Valeroso (Veterinarian II) and Mr. Renz Eriz Miranda (Agriculturist II). Meanwhile, Mr. Jimuel de Ramos (Agriculturist II/ Regional Animal Welfare Officer/ Focal Person) from the Department of Agriculture - Regional Field Office 4A gave some updates about the registered facilities in Quezon and problems encountered during the process of registration. Concurrently, Dr. Anthony Chua Villar, Events Committee Head of QVMA, gave some orientation about the association.

The third regular meeting of the association was successfully conducted yesterday at Shakey's Restaurant, Domoit, Lucena. The Quezon Veterinary Medical Association would like to thank for the support and generosity of Boehringer Ingelheim for being so extravagant on giving us awesome freebies and products that was spearheaded by Dr. Madonna Lacamento (Brand Manager Companion Animals) together with Dr. Andrea Clarice Aspuria (Area Sales Manager) and Ms. Chelle Llarenas (Technical Sales Specialist in Quezon Province & Bicol Region). There was also an amazing lecture about their new products that was presented by Dr. Niko Ylagan (Technical Manager Pet Vaccines and Thera/Technical Specialist.

Last 11th of May 2024, as we celebrate the San Isidro Labrador, Pahiyas Festival, the Quezon Veterinary Medical Association together with Office of the Provincial Veterinarian - Quezon and Office of the Municipal Agriculturist conducted a free veterinary medical mission for the municipality of Lucban. This is to raise awareness to the community about the prevention and control of rabies and the importance of responsible pet ownership through providing amazing services such as free neutering, anti-rabies vaccination, consultation, deworming and provision of vitamins to the fur babies of the Quezonians.

Dolphins are one of the most common marine mammals that are being stranded in the Philippines. One of the causes of this worst scenario is blast fishing, which uses dynamite, decimating the dolphins off the waters. Dynamite fishing is one of the most pervasive fishing techniques and it is banned by most countries including our country.

One of their unfortunate victims would be “Uni”, a Pantropical Spotted Dolphin that has stranded last Feb. 13, 2024 in Calilayan Cove Beach Resort in Unisan, Quezon. It was rehabilitated by different agencies spearheaded by Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) RF04, Office of the Provincial Veterinarian Quezon, LGU Unisan, Philippine Marine Mammal Stranding Network (PMMSN), Wildlife Veterinarians as Consultants and PVMA-QVMA Chapter.

Sadly, it is with deepest solitude that Uni passed away last 12th of March 2024. It has been a month of a rollercoaster emotions to every person who devoted their time and efforts for the welfare of our beloved Uni. We would like to extend our appreciation also to all the volunteers from different places. It really meant a lot. As an organization, we really learned a lot from this rehabilitation process. It is not only the skills and management on handling but also to help one another in times of need.

We lost a friend but we gained a family because of you, Uni. 🥲♥️🐬

The said seminar was named as "HEALING HEARTS, WAGGING TAILS: EUC THERA FUR TALK". Our veterinarian tackles about how pets can affect not only our lives but also makes our life whole.

Our own Dr. Arnold Asis, Vice President External of Quezon Veterinary Medical Association attended the PVMA Assessment and Strategic Planning Workshop hosted by PVMA - Philippine Veterinary Medical Association last March 5-6 at West Grove, Tanauan, Batangas. There were discussions about the plans of the organization that can be utilized to uplift our profession in the future.

It's Official! ✨

Accomplishment unlocked! Last February 21-23, it was the first time of Quezon Veterinary Medical Association in the PVMA - Philippine Veterinary Medical Association Convention to attend the processionals of every chapters and associations nationwide at SMX Convention Center Bacolod.

One of our colleague veterinarians, a diplomate and a fellow in Equine Medicine (PCEP), Dr. Jay P. Tolentino genuinely shared his case study on Day 3 about "Standing Prosthetic Laryngoplasty in Horses".
