Another in our poster series for vet clinics and general awareness.

Birds a very busy right now and will continue to be over the next few months. Have a look at this poster, and think before approaching a young bird (or animal). It is best to seek professional advice.

If you don't see this on your vet's notice board, please request they print it out. Your feathered friends will thank you.

Bat Conservation Ireland is an independent, non-profit, charity that is Ireland’s leading authority on bats.

🦇We conduct monitoring and research to increase knowledge of all Irish bat species.
🦇We work to secure and expand existing bat populations, and where feasible to extend their ranges.
🦇We aim to develop a genuine and widespread understanding and appreciation of bats through education, training, volunteering and other projects.
🦇We work to secure consistent protection of all bat species and the ecological infrastructure necessary to support them.

You can help bats by:

👉 Becoming a volunteer on the Irish Bat Monitoring Programme

€ Making a donation to help support our education and conservation work across the island

🦇 Joining your local bat group to help bats in your area

We often post about the dangers faced by our wild neighbours on the roads of Ireland, but the number of wildlife traffic related injuries and fatalities is not reducing.

How much does signage cost? Because no signage is costing too many wild lives.

Glue traps are the most cruel and painful torture instruments ever invented! If you must use them, then PLEASE put a mesh around them and protect mammals and birds from being starved to death!

Such a simple way to protect small mammals and birds from suffering.

Yesterday, I gave a talk about bats to a group of children at St. Anthony's Special School on Humbert Way. What a lovely time I had with lots of questions too. The children were all lovely and so interested in bats! Many thanks to Gemma for organising this with me.

Well that's another 2 bats released on Wednesday, one from Foxford and one from Rappa Castle. One robin fledgling released today too. He's been flying around in the bat flight cage to get fit and strong. Life's good! 🦇🦇🪶💜💜💜

Hate these things!

Perhaps a suitable image people can share to make the public aware that flypaper can kill bats, and not in a quick way but a long agonising traumatic end to their lives as they starve to death trying to struggle to get free.

If people must use flypaper please use one enclosed in mesh.

3 bats so far already this year, unfortunately one of them had to be put to sleep. The other two are feeding and doing well. Roll on the warmer weather when they can be released. 🦇💜🦇💜🦇💜

Did you know that bats are a part of an exclusive group of animals that can use their ventricular folds for communication? 🦇🦇

In humans, the low frequency growl that the ventricular folds or “false vocal chords” make can be found in death metal and Tuvan throat singing! 🎶🎤
Bats boast 7 vocal octaves from the ultrasonic chirps they use for echolocation all the way to the low growls that they use to greet each other. 🎤🦇🤘
