Martin is so grateful for all of your generous donations!

Today he was feeling much better so we celebrated with Mc Donalds! His favorites were Fries, but he also loved chicken nuggets and a cheeseburger!

He is even learning a few tricks!!

On today's episode of "Life with Martin"...

He had (what was most likely) his very first bath. He wasn't quite sure at first and was completely frozen. However, once he got a taste of all that yummy wet food and peanut butter that was smeared on the wall, he decided bath time isn't so bad after all.

We cleaned his wounds really well and bandaged him back up. We had to get a bit creative since he scratches his neck with his hind legs, which made the bandage wad up and fall off. So we used a male doggie diaper and one of my dog's anxiety vests until his new gear comes tomorrow!

I even caught him checking himself out in the mirror 😎! I'm fairly certain he approves ✔️

He is starting to wag his tail each time i come into the room to check on him (probably because I always have a treat or food in hand).

I just can not get over how absolutely perfect this little guy is!

💔 Martin’s Road to Recovery – Update 💔

Our sweet boy Martin has already endured more than any dog ever should. He had to undergo surgery to remove the rope that was deeply embedded in his neck—a heartbreaking reminder of the suffering he lived through before he was rescued. He made the long drive from Raymondville to Cibolo after surgery, and though he is finally safe, his fight is far from over.

Martin now faces a long, painful road of recovery. He will need daily wound care, specialized skin treatments, and close monitoring to make sure his fragile body heals. This is not a quick or easy process—it will take time, resources, and continued medical support to give him the chance at the pain-free life he deserves.

When Martin finally made it to my house, he ate a full tasty meal, met his new friend Miss London, and then collapsed into the deepest sleep. Right now, he’s curled up, snoring loudly—safe for the first time in who knows how long. That sound of peace is priceless, but keeping him on this healing path is costly.

UPDATE:

The vet said Martin’s bloodwork shows serious infection and some very damaged skin. He will be staying the night and we will post updates as soon as we get them.

When Animal Control picked up Martin, they were met with a heartbreaking sight. This sweet boy had been living in pain and suffering that no animal should ever have to endure. A rope was found embedded deep in his neck, cutting into his skin and leaving behind unimaginable wounds from what must have been a long period of neglect.

As if that wasn’t enough, Martin is also battling mange—his skin raw, itchy, and sore—and we fear there may be even more hidden health issues waiting to surface. He has already begun vet care, where bloodwork and additional tests will help us understand just how much his little body has been through.

And yet… through it all, Martin remains gentle. He leans in for affection, his eyes soft and forgiving, as if all he wants is to finally feel safe and loved. To think that a dog who has known so much cruelty can still show such sweetness is nothing short of extraordinary.

🙏 Martin is now under the care of our veterinary team, receiving the urgent treatment he so desperately needs. But his journey to recovery will be long, and the medical expenses are already adding up quickly—wound care, medications, mange treatment, bloodwork, follow-up visits, and likely more interventions as we uncover the full extent of his condition.

Let me tell you a little about my friend Miss Betty...

Betty’s journey has been one of heartbreak, resilience, and finally, hope. This extremely pregnant mama has endured more than any dog should. Litter after litter, she gave everything she had to her puppies, but with little care or support, survival was never guaranteed. Her last litter brought her the deepest sorrow—only one tiny pup made it. Despite all she’s endured, Betty’s gentle spirit has never wavered.

When she finally landed in a shelter, we knew she needed more than just a roof overhead. Betty needed a true village to surround her—a team ready to make sure her and her unborn babies had the best chance possible. And that’s exactly what she got.

Her journey started in the Valley of South Texas, where she was first picked up and transported all the way to Cibolo. There, Betty came to stay with us for a few days, where she could rest and feel safe while waiting for the next step of her journey. In that short time, she showed us just how special she is—gentle, trusting, and carrying her little family with such quiet strength.

The final leg of Betty’s trip brought her to Austin Pets Alive, a rescue with the resources, expertise, and love to give her the medical care and support she desperately needed. Getting her there wasn’t easy, but every mile traveled and every hand that helped along the way was proof of just how powerful it is when people come together for a dog in need.

Betty’s story is a reminder that rescue truly takes a village. From the Valley, to Cibolo, to Austin—so many hearts came together to give this mama dog the safety, dignity, and hope she deserves. Now, Betty finally has the chance to write a new chapter, one filled with love, care, and brighter days ahead.

A Miracle for Brody

In the heart of the South Texas Valley, under the relentless sun and amidst the hum of cicadas, a stray dog fought to stay alive. His frail body was a testament to his suffering: ribs pressing sharply against paper-thin skin, his back legs dragging lifelessly behind him from an old, untreated injury. He had no strength to run or bark, only the will to survive another day.

When animal control picked him up, his future became even bleaker. The shelter, overwhelmed and underfunded, had no resources for dogs like him—dogs who needed time, love, and miracles. His name was added to the euthanasia list, just another number in a sea of forgotten lives.

When his story reached us, it hit like a lightning bolt. We wanted to help, but as a foster-based rescue with every home already full, we were at capacity. Still, we refused to give up on him. His photo, a haunting image of desperation, was shared far and wide. We pleaded for a miracle—someone to step up and give him a chance.

And then, as if guided by fate, a message came in. A phenomenal woman with a heart big enough to hold all the broken pieces of the world reached out. She offered to foster him for as long as he needed. It was the miracle we had prayed for.

We named him Brody.

Brody’s journey to San Antonio was filled with equal parts hope and heartbreak. He lay quietly during the drive, his bony frame wrapped in blankets, his tired eyes watching the world go by. When we arrived, we introduced him to a world he had never known—a world of love, warmth, and kindness.

He was given small, nourishing meals, careful not to overwhelm his fragile body. We spoke softly to him, letting him know he was safe. For the first time, Brody began to relax, his eyes reflecting not fear, but cautious trust.

On Monday, Brody will see the veterinarian. It’s the first step in understanding the extent of his injuries and malnutrition. We know the road ahead won’t be easy, and the medical bills will be significant, but Brody deserves every chance we can give him. After his visit, he’ll go to his experienced foster mama—the woman who made his rescue possible. Without her, Brody wouldn’t be here today.

Brody's story isn’t just one of survival—it’s a story of love, compassion, and the power of community. He has a long way to go, but with your support, we can ensure he gets everything he needs. Every donation, no matter how small, will help Brody take one more step toward the life he deserves—a life where he is cherished, healthy, and loved.
