As you likely know by now Dr VanZwol’s clinic was sold and is now AV Veterinary Services. We really miss Dr VanZwol as he was our vet. There is new changes to the new clinic and price changes so please be sure to call the clinic and check the new prices .I felt a deep sadness when I walked in there the other day .Lots of beautiful flowers and plants that were left welcoming the new vet .I only met her once but seems kind .The atmosphere is different for sure.Dr V would come over for a little chat as that was part of his personality which drew people to him.I know myself that I felt totally as ease with him and his ability to diagnose our fur babies .I’m sure the new vet is very good but I have not been in yet with any kitties .We hope Dr V is enjoying retirement but I bet he misses looking after animals as his whole life was being one of the greatest and most appreciated vets in Port Hawkesbury and surrounding areas .

Today I presented Dr VanZwol with a gift and cake .He has dedicated his entire life to saving animals .He certainly was good to our rescue .The poem below describes him as we see him

Veterinarian
A Answer To A Prayer

So you liked animals when you were small?
Veterinarian school was your call
You enjoyed your work
This we all can see.
A true veterinarian you will always be.
Caring and thoughtful
With our 4 legged friends
‘til the very end .
We trust you with their lives
Because it’s plain to see
Your the best in town
And to us will always be

With Great Admiration
Forget Me Not Animal Rescue Soc

Today Dr V seen three babies that had upper respiratory and they were treated .He always tells us everything he does .He really cares about animals .A life time dedicated to caring and treating sick animals .I know the news about that dog accidentally put down is being shared like it’s on fire but everything you read does not mean it’s accurate and that post is one sided.I feel sorry for the lady who owned the dog but she went to far .Accidents can and do happen .Why take this so far and ruin someone’s life long commitment to saving animals .Dr V had been a vet for a very long time .He ran 4 clinics plus he went to the farms and treated animals and the racetrack .
He should be commended on the amount of time he has put into animals and his caring personality then his name being drug through the mud .I hope Dr V has the best retirement .God knows he deserves it .

Sad day today little Cole had a blood clot on his spine .He went into extreme pain so he was rushed to Highland where Dr V diagnosed his condition .The blood clot caused him to drag his back end and was flinging himself around .Most cats don’t survive it and poor Cole is only 8 weeks old.We had him put to sleep as nothing could be done .Rip little one ❤️

I had 2 of our fosters in as I was concerned but both are fine .Dr V examined both and both are fine .Being a foster I tend to worry about the babies .We are always on guard and watching.

These two babies have survived one dam stubborn virus .Finally after 2 weeks of sub q and 2 visits with Dr V where they got injections of antibiotics. The Grey kitten Skye was much worse and needed sub q often .She was vomiting so much and not keeping down food so I gave her formula but at least some stayed down .Both got a b12 injection to help stimulate appetite .They finally are back eating .I never seen such a stubborn virus except Panleuk .I had talked to the 2 kitties and told them I was only trying to help them and I do think they understood .I snuggled them all the time and gave them lots of attention .They currently are watching my iPad squirrels and birds .So happy they pulled through ❤️❤️

These 2 fur babies seen Dr V today both vomiting and high fever .Both were treated and now back home with me and feeling so much better .Whenever I feel something is off I always look again as I’m usually right .After being with this rescue for so long I feel I have a connection with cats that come in .I was watching these 2 closely as I knew they were stressed but I knew something else was coming and it did .Thank god for Highland Animal hospital ❤️🐈‍⬛

16/04/2021

With all the medical intervention I have learned from Highland Animal clinic from both Gail Gibbons and Dr Vanzwol it has made a huge difference in the amount of cats and kittens we were able to save.I passed all this on to Paula and Paula to Bond.We all are able to help many animals ❤️🐈‍⬛

One of the babies had suddenly come down with a fever and was anemic so off to see Dr V and he said it was a virus so he was treated and he is back playing and being a typical kitten .Thank god the foster contacted me immediately and got him in right away .

Kitten season has started .Paula and myself are out addressing the colonies .Over the last 2 years we have covered a lot of colonies which reduces the amount of kittens .Former volunteer Phyllis Sampson helped with the first year of trapping .Paula joined Forget me not March 2020 and has been trapping with me.She also fosters and helps fundraise. We can’t predict how many kittens will need our help but we are ready .

Another cat feeling better thanks to Dr V .This cat had a huge abscess on his face and it broke .The cat ended up with fluid around his heart .He was very dehydrated after vomiting for 4 and we were contacted. .I He got 2 injections .I hydrated the cat so he has gone back with one of our volunteers Bond Jonas .He is on amoxicillin for 10 days plus sub q every day twice a day for a week while he heals .He was in bad shape but he will do well in our care .He had been treated for earmites by Paula who cleaned his ears then with with revolution but recommended by Dr V to also do the drops in his ears for 3 weeks .Good thing he is a big cat after so much vomiting .He will continue with us on a kitten diet to regain the weight he lost .He is one lucky cat 🐈

Another cat into see DrV today .He is an older cat around 10-12 years old.He was dehydrated and full of cat lice .He had it for a long time so he was anemic .He gave him some blood builder injection and will require a second one next week. The lice was treated with Advantage multi and I gave him 80 cc of sub q .He must stay on a high protein diet as he is pretty thin and his fur looks greasy .The lice was sucking the life out of the cat .Now he is all treated and feeling much better 🐾🐈‍⬛🐾🐈‍⬛🐾

A new baby came in today with a bad case of upper respiratory. Thanks to Dr Vanzwol for arranging meds for this little one .She already been reserved but not ready until she has recovered and sees the vet again for testing and vaccination .Meanwhile she will stay on a healthy diet and will be dewormed and treated for flees .So many kittens and cats don’t get medical treatment for upper respiratory. We have taken in many kittens that had this and were treated .Thanks Highland for such wonderful care you have provided for our kitties .

I help run Forget Me Not Animal Rescue Society .We have always taken our rescues to Highland and Dr V had treated many of our babies .He will take emergencies on a whim.We have the upmost respect for this man .He has been so compassionate towards our fosters .Any questions he will answer .We have taken in some pretty bad cases and he saved them.Trooper a couple of years ago was hit by a car with a broken jaw, broken pelvis, bladder infection and a damaged eye but with the professionalism exhibited by this man is out standing that cat recovered. He was my foster and with Dr V seeing him on several visits he was adopted after a long recovery
