I made one last collar for our Dolly and packed up all the cording for another year. I've been making hundreds of tick collars every week since the beginning of January. All our big bulk orders are fulfilled & shipped out and the store is fully stocked with dog collars in all sizes from 8" to 24"; as well as human bracelets & anklets. Dolly has worn a tick collar since February ... NO ticks.

Our sweet Dolly has worn her tick collar since February. NO ticks which is amazing since she loves to walk down our country road in the long grass and spends most of her days off out in the yard laying in the grass.
Six years ago I watched this eye opening video after our sweet little Dolly nearly died from Bravecto. Rodney Habib, along with Dr. Karen Becker wrote The Forever Dog. I was so angry with myself that I had blindly given this product to her. PLUS I love 🐝🐝🌼

The post I shared which has since been removed was from a local gardening page. Someone posted they had taken their first tick of the year off their dog. Yikes!! This is early, however, 4 degrees celsius is all these nasty little buggers need to no longer be dormant. I'm putting Dolly's tick collar back on her!

Soaking a few of Dolly's EM tick collars before hanging them in the sun to dry. Tick season is not done yet. A number of people have been posting here in Neebing they are finding black legged ticks on their dogs. This is their most active time of the year. DO NOT remove your dog's collar until the temperature is below 4 degrees and remains there.

Did you know ticks are active at 4ºC and above. Did you know ticks are at their peak right now? Our dog Dolly wears her tick collar from March - November. This covers her from spring nymph stage (size of a poppy seed) to blacklegged ticks active season in fall. I’ve attached a screenshot from ticktalkcanada.com.

Nice & light compared to our original braided collar. We've redesigned our collars to make each size adjustable up to 4" larger. This allows extra room if you purchase the incorrect size. Collars are sized 8 • 10 • 12 • 14 • 16 • 18 • 20 • 22 • 24 inches. Purchase the size your dog's neck falls within. ie 13" neck, choose 12" collar. Collars can only be made larger NOT smaller.

My order for cording & EM pipes arrived from Europe. I made our sweet Dolly the first EM collar. I'm calling it Neon Pink Watermelon. Fun colour for the summer. Clearly she needs tick protection as she likes to spend her days off in my flower garden 😂

🌿 TICK BEHAVIOUR & MAINTAINING COLLARS
INSTRUCTIONS for EM collars
• Collars must be work 24/7 to build up effectiveness of EM® pipes. This can take from 2-4 weeks.
• Wash collars weekly or bi-weekly. Soak collar in a bowl of warm water for an hour. Clean pipes under warm running water, turning pipes to remove any debris or dirt. Place in a warm sunny spot to dry.
• NO contact with soap or chemicals ie pools/hot tubs, showers/dish water. If you are using bug spray or sunscreen, do not allow contact with collars/bracelets. This will compromise their efficacy.
An EM™ Tick Collar can be as effective as any tick repellent found on the market. However, there is no 100% guarantee EM collars nor any other tick product will keep ticks off of our fur babies! Avoid walking in known tick areas and check after each walk for ticks. With the explosion of ticks this year, we recommend vigilance & checking your pet daily.
🌿 UNDERSTANDING TICK BEHAVIOUR
Ticks are wily opportunists with the singleminded goal of finding a host to feed on. Ticks are attracted to animals breath, body odours, body heat, and vibrations. They lay in wait, resting on the tips of grass & shrubs in a position known as “questing”. They hold onto leaves and grass with their 3rd and 4th pair of legs with the first pair outstretched waiting for a host to climb onboard. When a host brushes the spot, they quickly climb on board. Ticks work together, linking legs to form a chain. If one tick grabs a host, the rest are along for the ride.
Questing locations are determined primarily by detecting carbon dioxide. You do not need to venture into the woods to be at risk. Brushing past one blade of grass at the edge of a path can doom you. They quest at any time, temperature or weather condition so take precautions and perform thorough tick checks. Place clothing worn after a walk or hiking in the dryer, highest temperature for 10 minutes.

WELCOME TICK-EM-OFF NEWBIES
If you are new to our page and the use of EM™ (Effective Micro-organisms) tick collars to repel ticks, I will answer a few common questions we receive. Collars are handmade by myself and include EM™ ceramic tubes which are manufactured in Europe. EM™ collars have been used overseas for years and are a great all natural alternative for our own dog. Read through our posts for the technical explanation behind effective micro-organisms.
DOES IT WORK?
We live in Neebing and our dog is always outside in the long grass. 3 summers tick free speaks for itself. We have hundreds of repeat customers both for pet collars and human bracelets including MNR and hydro workers who are outdoors all day. NO ticks. Collars contain no chemicals. The only magic ingredient is the ceramic pipes. While we have had only positive feedback, there is no 100% guarantee EM collars or any tick product will keep ticks away. We encourage a daily tick check. Bravecto or any other systematic oral or topical insecticides do not keep ticks off your pet but rather kill the tick once it has bitten your dog and ingested its blood.
MAINTENANCE?
Wash EM collars every 2 weeks in warm, running water, rotating each tube to release any dirt. NO soap or chemicals which will compromise the EM tubes. Hang in a sunny spot to dry. I like to soak the collar first and then run under water.
DUBIOUS?
We understand. Search online for “EM tick collars for pets”. There are a number of Canadian companies making collars. Read through their pages. I was completely sold on the idea and am so very grateful to have discovered EMs.
