🤍 Realising you lovely lot have never been formally introduced to Opal 🤍
Opal has never known anything but love, which isn't something I can say often about the animals who find their way here.. Opal's story is tragic to say the least. One night, a fox sadly found their way into the coop after determined rigorous attempts... Opal's survival mode kicked in and she managed to wedge herself to safety. She witnessed her family being taken 💔 Opal's mum was utterly distraught and in utter shock herself, she bought Opal for assessment, (we had been speaking a few weeks prior about something else) thankfully Opal managed to protect herself well and, she escaped with minor injuries to her comb, eye and ear but was deeply in shock. Dazed and confused she was reluctant to eat and drink independently, as the days passed with assisted feeding that glimmer of sass and abundant confidence was making it's way back. We're so proud of you Opal 🥹. She certainly keeps us on our toes and is without a doubt the most adventurous her there ever was 😂🤍💛
I'm just "attempting" to clean the day runs with Opal's assistance of course, which led to me remembering you've not had the pleasure of meeting her properly yet 😊
Elvis's friendly reminder to eat your vegetables 🦎😁
Elvis has spent a period of time in brumation - it's safe to say he's regained his appetite along with his energy.
*Must remind myself to tie my hair up the next time he makes a Beeline for my head* 😅
We have some beautiful news for you, friends 💛🕊️
My goodness these little ones were a massive challenge on top of our already busy sanctuary and rehabilitating... We did it!
Stay safe, fly free 🥹💛🕊️ I'll post links in the comment section for those who do not know their story 💔
Safe Haven Wildlife Sanctuary forever grateful for your dedication and fundraising to get ALL of the gulls to safety 🕊️
You know that old saying "nice weather for ducks"?
...It wasn't just the 24hr torrential rain that saw them wagging their tails during the flood in sheer happiness, the aftermath is equally as nice, apparently 😂🥰
Enjoy the next 37 seconds of Mr Kim having a mud bath 🥰💛
Sonic's friendly reminder to leave fresh water out for his pals 🩵
It's almost the time of the year for our corvid family to be free once again...
September at the earliest is the safest time for release as the neighbouring clans are no longer in breeding season, the territorial displays are drastically safer for newbies to be introduced. It's always such an emotional time of year for us, as you can imagine we form a bond with each life, so always worry about them when the time comes. BUT this is why we do what we do, to give them that second chance of freedom and soar the skies once again- or for the first time for the babies 🥹🫶🏻💛
Once released, almost all birds stay around for assisted feeding, we've even found the odd "shiny presents" left for us. Corvids truly one of the most underestimated creatures, last year's magpie clan have brought their young back to meet us! 🖤💛
Flo would like to say a special big thank you to a local lady, Kate for giving us some beautiful new turf 🌿💛 there was enough to fill all of the day runs and aviarys 🥹🤯 So we're thankful for all this lovely summer rain today to give it all a good watering!!
Also thank you to our good friend Drew for helping rake out the chippings and laying the turf 💚
It may last 5 minutes with certain animals or 5 years but they will certainly have fun with it 🤩
Wally can indeed feed himself, extremely well now... but he'll be telling you otherwise 🙈😂🥰
We go through a LOT of food each day!
If you'd like to help Wally and his 15 other corvid buddies in keeping their tummies full please consider popping a pound into their PayPal account 🙏🏻💛⭐🪽
Unfortunately for Wally he can't come shopping with me but he's given me the food shopping list for all of his other animal pals at the sanctuary too coming in at £80 a week. He's not added any medication, bedding, supplements, enrichment, cleaning products or treat costs to the list, so if you'd like to help with any of those, please consider doubling to 2 pound 🙏🏻💛🐰🦎🐭🐦🐦⬛🐓🐥🦜🐔🕊️🦆🪿🐟🪹🐺🐢
