It's been a minute since I posted updates, but big things are happening at Galia!

With several longer trips and and moving to Austin all in the last couple months, I wasn't able to show Calcifer myself as much as I wanted to. Thankfully, the wonderful and talented Megan & Lori helped me out and not only cared for his coat and groomed him, but also transported him to shows and got him in the ring when I wasn't able to. They were able to secure his last two single points needed a few weeks ago at the OKC cluster. So he was just one major win away from finishing!

I was thrilled that my schedule allowed me to show him for two days at the San Antonio show. And, with the help of Megan & Lori who got his groom looking ring ready and gave him a pep talk when he was being a bit naughty, he was awarded WD/BOW at the San Antonio Poodle Club Specialty for his last major!

Pending Akc approval, Calcifer is now:

I am so incredibly proud of this sweet, silly boy and myself for this accomplishment! But we could not have done it without everyone on - a huge thank you to Lori, Megan, his breeder Dani at Kvali Standard Poodles, and of course my always supportive partner Rachel.

There was a slight mix up and it took a while to get the win photo back, but Calcifer took WD/BOS at the Corpus Christi Kennel Club show on January 13th for an additional point towards his AKC Championship.

Last day of the Glen Rose show today and Calcifer went out with a bang!

He took WD/BOW for two more points towards his AKC Championship - he just needs 5 more points and his second major!

A huge thank you to everyone who helped us this weekend! Being a owner handler is not an easy journey but the Texas poodle crew makes it worth it.

After a very busy holiday season, and some much deserved time off, Calcifer stepped back into the ring in his big boy haircut for the first time yesterday. We are still working on his trim and getting back into the swing of showing but I’m so proud of how far we have come already.

Ziva girl got her retirement groom and is loving it. She will come out of retirement for TDI next fall, but since that is almost a year away I didn’t want to keep her in coat that long. I’m hoping we can start some nosework and maybe agility before then!

Happy Birthday Calcifer!!! 🥳 🎂

I cannot believe that the baby puppy I brought home 10 months ago is somehow already a year old. He really is everything I could want in my foundation for my program, and I’m so lucky to have him.

For his birthday Calcifer got to play with a poodle friend, go on a beautiful hike, and eat cake.

Finally home from the Southern Classic and sunday was definitely Calcifer's day! He won his competitive class in show one and show two, and in show two he went best male and best of winners.

Overall, Calcifer came home with FOUR new titles 🤯
- URO1 (Rally Obedience 1)
- CH (Show Champion)
- SPOT (Socialized pet obedience test)
- Total Dog

He has accomplished so much for being under a year old, and this only being his third weekend out in UKC. I am so excited to cut him into pattern on Friday and return to showing with him in the new year. I cannot thank Kvali Standard Poodles enough for breeding and raising this beautiful boy and giving me the privilege to be on the other end of his lead.

Southern classic is going very well for the Galia crew!

On Friday Calcifer won his very competitive class in show one for another 5 points towards his Championship, and scored a 93 in rally for trial 1 and a 90 for show two. Ziva took reserve Grand Champion and had a qualifying rally score of 84 - which means she is a Total Dog Invitational regional qualifer!

Today, in show one Ziva won the Grand Champion class and then took breed over 17 other dogs! In show two Calcifer won his class (and another 5 pts!) and took Reserve Best Male. He also scored a 90 on his rally one run, which finished his UR01 title and made him a Total Dog Invitational regional qualifier!

Qualifying both of my dogs for TDI was my #1 goal for this show and we did it! Calcifer now only needs 10 points and one competition win to finish his championship. Fingers crossed that tomorrow might be the day for that 🤞

One of our show photos from last weekend came in! Unfortunately it's not the best photo because I realized late in the day I had forgotten to get one so we rushed up to grab one before the photographer left and he had smooshed his top knot to smithereens already...whoops! The rest of him looks nice though 😂

This goes to show that if you want nice win photos you need to train your dog and yourself, and bring a friend over so they can tell you if things are out of place.

Another successful show weekend done and we are safely home!

Calcifer went BOS and BOBOH today for another point towards his AKC Championship and 5 more points towards his NOHS rankings.

He now has 8/15 points toward his AKC CH and one of his majors.

This was our last AKC show for the year, and we will be taking some time off to work on his new cut since he turn a year old at the end of the month and will need to be in a continental. Stay tuned to see his new ‘do in a couple of weeks!

The 2023 Qualifying period just started, so we likely wont stay there for long, but Calcifer and I are currently the #4 Owner Handled Standard Poodle for AKC!

Another show weekend done!

Calcifer showed nicely on Saturday and won his class for an additional POA point, and took reserve winners dog to a very nice mature dog.

No love in the ring for Sunday but he always tries for me, even when we are both tired 😴

Next weekend we will be in Humble for a three day show and are hoping the major holds!

Calcifer got a little excited in the ring today and didn’t gait as nicely as he could have. I also completely fumbled stacking him and it definitely made him feel off for the exam.

We took second in our class, then Went Reserve Winners dog and had some lovely comments from the judge.

Tomorrow we will hope he can find his serious face while in the ring 😂 I’m really happy he loves showing so much though.

Well, definitely not a bad start to the weekend!

Calcifer won his class, then went Winners Dog, Best of Winners, Best of Variety and BOV Owner Handled 😳

We then went on to The Non-Sporting group and took a a GROUP 2! And took a group 2 again in the OH Non-Sporting Group.

I’m still in shock and just over the
moon with this dog. He get compliments everywhere he goes, loves to do anything I ask him to, and is beautiful to boot. Couldn’t ask for a better dog for my first AKC show dog!

We are still working on learning how to hold ribbons and stay still for pictures 😂

But Calcifer earned his CGC a couple weeks ago and finally got his ribbon! Hoping to test for his CGCA and CGCU soon.

So incredibly proud of my Ziva girl today!

Today she finished her UKC Grand Championship title with a bang by wining Best of Breed over 5 other entered dogs. I was disappointed to see that there were only 4 total dogs entered in our breed yesterday, and no other champions, so no way to earn a leg without winning in group multiple times. I was sure we just wouldn’t have enough competition. But, one more showed up!

Ziva showed her little heart out and really tried her best today for me. She was my first show dog, my first standard poodle, and was never an easy or push button dog to handle. She made me work my butt off for every single win, and I am so greatful for the skills I have gained as a groomer, handler, and trainer by being her show partner.

I was told early on in showing her that she was to nervous and just not good enough to champion, and when I completed her Championship title I was then told I would certainly never finish her Grand.

The person who told me those things will have to eat their words, because as of today (and pending UKC conformation), Ziva is now:

Calcifer was the big winner this weekend!

He won his class all 6 shows (he was the only dog in his class 😂) On Sunday under Judge Kevin Izard-Carroll he took best male over a very nice AKC Champion and then best of winners as well. He was considered for breed and had nice compliments from the judge but ultimately BOB went to the dog who went on to win best in show!

Overall Calcifer walked away with 50 points and one competition win, which puts him about half way to his UKC championship after his first weekend out at just barely 6 months old! I could not be prouder of him and his attitude and love of showing. Thank you again to Kvali Standard Poodles for letting me have this beautiful boy!

Ziva tried really hard at the Longview show this weekend, but didn’t win anything in conformation. The champion class was huge (8 dogs!) and the judges all had a tough time picking.

She did earn 2 qualifying rally scores and took 3rd place in her class for one of the runs.

Calcifer went to Lowes and Spirit Halloween yesterday to do some training around all the Halloween animatronics. I was super impressed with him. He was just so happy to be out doing something and his tail never stopped wagging. He even tried sitting for one of the decorations hoping he could get some treats from them 😂 He shied away when the jumping one went off (to be fair those always get me too!) but recovered in just a few seconds and was back to tail wagging happy puppy. So lucky I got such a wonderful puppy with a great temperament and excellent start in life. He going to continue to do amazing things!

Calcifer had his UKC debut at just 15 weeks old today and I couldn’t be more pleased! He didn’t win any ribbons, but he is having a blast being at the show, trying to make friends with everyone, and is able to relax and nap in his kennel without me even having to cover it! He also got to sleep in the hotel bed with me last night and he handled it like a pro. Only got up to readjust, didn’t hop off the bed or wake me up. I have gotten several compliments on his beautiful structure and happy demeanor. The judge for the second show today (who is himself a poodle breeder) said he has a bright future ahead of him, just needs a bit more maturity and a few less puppy hops 😂

Ziva got to start working on some agility training today and she loves it! Once she finishes her Grand Championship and retires from conformation we will be able to really ramp up her training.

Ziva and Calcifer had a play date with Tandem Canines today! Three poodles, an Afghan Hound, and two GSD puppies! Everyone loved getting to just be dogs today 🐾🐩

Calcifer went through the car wash for the first time as his socialization outing today. He was very intrigued, got a tiny bit startled by the water jets, but recovered quickly. So glad to have gotten such a mellow tempered pup! Kvali Standard Poodles did a great job raising this litter!
