I’m sad to announce that I will be making my sudden departure from Colorado next month 👋🏼

I’ll be just missing the 3 year anniversary of starting this business. I’ve met a lot of great people, their wonderful dogs and a few crazy ones in between lol

I’m watching some of my regulars one last time so I can say my goodbyes before I make the long trek back to California to be closer to family!

PSA: Please, PLEASE teach your dog to be okay when alone.
Every day we work with many online dog training students for a variety of different reasons. Reactivity, leash pulling, puppy training … and one big, overarching theme is that for many dogs this work does not actually start with the reactivity/leash/puppy/etc. training.
It starts with the fact that one or more dogs of the household cannot stay alone.
It is so tempting to feed into a dog that can never be by himself.
Maybe you are retired or work from home and the dog never “has to” to be alone.
Or maybe you have two dogs that have been together a long time (littermates, anyone?) and they have become so bonded to each other that one leaving is a huge issue for the other.
From a human perspective, this can seem really flattering.
“My dog loves me so much he cannot be without me” or
“My two dogs love each other so much they only stay together”
But from a behavior-perspective, this is really not healthy or beneficial at all.
There will be a day at which your dog needs to be separated from you/your other dog. I guarantee it will come.
Perhaps for a vet visit, or a family emergency, or “just” for training.
Quite a few of the online students that come to us to work on e.g. reactivity cannot start out with counterconditioning sessions at all.
They need to first figure out the seemingly impossible task of having one dog stay behind while they train the other (and then switch it up). If dogs have truly never left each other, this will be a lot of hard work before ever starting the actual reactivity training.
Attachment to the point of not functioning without someone else is NOT healthy. It is NOT cute and it is NOT a sign of amazing love.
It is a problem that will become bigger and bigger the longer it goes on.
I promise you:
If you teach your dog to stay calm when separated from you/your other dog, he will love you just as much.
He will still be just as good of a friend and just as loyal.
You will only add to his happiness and the relationship if the dog does not feel intense anxiety when separated.
Of course this does not mean that if you e.g. work from home, your dog needs to be in a crate in a different room for 8 hours.
Even 30min, twice a day with you (or the other dog) not in view is a great start. Practice these separations before you NEED them.
Helping your dog feel comfortable alone should be a life skill that you teach them *from day 1*.
Treat it as important as going potty outside.
Your dog WILL be happier … and you as well 🙂

My Duck Toller, Diva, is getting up there in years. And while her overall health is very good, she seems to be going quite deaf.
She startles easily if she isn’t aware I’ve walked up behind her. She doesn’t hear me call her when she is sleeping. I have to touch her to wake her up.
Despite going deaf, she still gets the ability to run off leash. I’m thankful for that. It is one of the benefits of having e-collar trained her at an early age. She is very collar literate, which means I can use the tactile cues to get her attention without any undue stress.

I tend to teach movement toward the handler as the first association in e-collar training so it becomes the default behavior if the dog doesn’t receive any other audible or visual cues. What that means is, if she is moving away from me and can’t hear me call her, I can use the tactile cue to turn her around and get her moving back toward me.

It is a win for her, she gets more freedom. It is a win for me, I have peace of mind while allowing her off leash.

People that think e-collars are only punishment or cruel, just don’t have enough education to have learned the full capability of what this versatile tool can do.

This Friday 06/17/22 , I will be starting a second job to help with the rising costs of life 🥴 and saving for our upcoming PCS move next year! so with that being said, all current bookings will be taken care of accordingly whether it be by me or my husband while home.

Going forward, after this big wave of July 4th bookings, I will be scheduling less dogs to accommodate my new work schedule and family time!

If I’m really needed, we can try to work things out but I can no longer guarantee spots as I have some bookings already scheduled way out in advanced with a few of my regulars.

So sorry for any future inconveniences but thank you to those who continue to support my small business 🫶🏼

School officially starts tomorrow! 📚
So spots for boarding are VERY limited as I already have clients booked out until April 🐾

And on a sad note, please keep Tigers momma, Denise in your thoughts today as she’s been in the hospital the past few weeks fighting for her life. She’s stable, but it’s a long road to recovery ❤️‍🩹 they just celebrated her birthday in the hospital yesterday!

31/01/2022

Starting February 2022
I’ll be taking less clients due to me starting school Feb 28!
Online classes will be taking up most of my time! 📚

As a Service Dog handler myself… THIS!!! 👇🏼

Let’s talk about service animal IDs/certifications/registrations!

Did you know that, per the ADA, there are no legally recognized IDs, etc.? The FAQ guidance manual (https://www.ada.gov/regs2010/service_animal_qa.html) makes it very clear.

There are some websites that sell service animal IDs or certifications, but these are little more than scams. These are often used to misrepresent pets as service animals and to gain access to businesses, since many don’t know that IDs are not legitimate.

Even some legitimate handlers use these IDs to subvert access issues, but this is incredibly harmful to other teams. Businesses come to believe that such IDs are legitimate and that teams should be able to produce an ID or paperwork if they are legitimate teams. My most recent access refusal occurred because I couldn’t produce an ID or paperwork. I tried to educate the manager, but he insisted that “everyone else always has them.”

If you are a service animal handler, please don’t use IDs to obtain access to businesses. Instead, educate them on the laws so that you don’t cause issues for other teams. Also, hold businesses responsible for selling such IDs. Ordering from them, even their other items, only enables them to continue to do business and perpetuate the sale of these fraudulent IDs.

[image: a screenshot from the ADA website, reading: Q17. Does the AD require service animals be certified as service animals? A. No. Covered entities may not require documentation, such as proof that the animal has been certified, trained, or licensed as a service animal, as a condition for entry. There are individuals and organizations that sell service animal certifications or registration documents online. These documents do not convey any rights under the ADA and the Department of Justice does not recognize them as proof that the dog is a service animal.]

For those who don’t believe in kennels/crates.

They’re often needed if they stay overnight at the vet, groomers and boarding. So just because they don’t stay in one at your house, they might need to at another place. The world doesn’t revolve solely around your dog! Groomers, Vet Techs and Animal Caretakers etc don’t need to hear your dog barking all day because they’re not kennel trained!

Just a little infographic I personally made about Service Dogs and their costs 🦮🐕‍🦺

I do not work for free by the way.

Dog Training & Pet Care is my JOB.
It is how I take care of myself and provide for my daughter/family.
Asking for free services is a little insulting to me and my time. I will not take away time from caring for my daughter or my own dogs if you will not compensate me for my work.

Looking for a FREE fully trained service dog? Good luck.
Those oftentimes are hard to come by as waitlists are months to years long. Even then, programs usually make you fundraise money to offset the costs for your "free" dog. Dog food, treats, toys, gear and training aren't free...

This is by no means directed to anyone in particular. Above The Clouds Siberian Service Dogs and I are just here to express how much goes into raising and providing the public with dogs and these training services.

It typically takes 2 years to fully train a service dog, so I couldn't imagine just getting one of these dogs for free. I have a Psychiatric Service Dog myself which cost me $2000+ alone just for a well bred dog..

So please think again when you ask someone or a business to do something for you for free. We need to survive in this world too.

I pet sit, so YOU guys can enjoy your vacations and family time 😇

But this year I’m enjoying our Thanksgiving (also our anniversary is the 25th) to ourselves without having to worry about any one else’s dogs!

December is completely booked though 💀🤣

With the busy holiday season coming up, we want to remind you of this again...👇

It’s a lesson many new—and even experienced—pet sitters and dog walkers struggle to learn: It’s okay to say NO.

➡It may be that your schedule is already too full.

➡You may not be comfortable with the type of pet or may not be experienced with a pet of a specific size or with specific behavioral or physical needs.

➡A client may just be a little too far out of your service area.

➡The client may ask you to job share when you have a policy you don’t do that.

➡You may simply feel that the client is not the best fit…for whatever reason.

As a business owner, you have the power to accept or decline pet-sitting requests.

🛑Many times, NO is the best decision for you, the potential client, and their pet.🛑
