Fungi are unbelievably complex and can make for some pretty amazing snacks. Ever eaten a mushroom that tastes like bacon? I want to share a bit about why The Forest Floor came to be and what I want to bring to the table (Literally & metaphorically). Just to get your attention, here are some fun flavor packed factoids about some of the mushrooms I am growing and will grow!
-Pink oyster mushrooms t
aste like bacon when you fry them in butter. Make sure they are crispy!
-Lions Mane mushrooms have a delicate structure. When cooked and dipped in butter they are said to taste like lobster. I have tried this. It is pretty close and AMAZING in stir fry.
-Enoki mushrooms are a versatile hollow mushroom that can act as a noodle replacement while adding an oh so satisfying crunch. Add Red pepper paste, sugar, garlic, and soy sauce for an out of this world spicy snack. I love mushrooms, or more accurately, fungi. Many people forget that these fascinating organisms are not plants! They are more similar to animals than our photosynthesizing cousins. I am not a mycologist, nor do I claim to be anything other than a beginner and enthusiast. That being said I would like to study mycology and all of the medicinal, culinary, and sustainable benefits that these amazing organisms hold. For love of flavor, nature, science, and self can be gained. I really have come to love fungi after reading constantly and beginning to explore the natural world around me that I once had much disdain for. Mycology is absolutely a science but growing mushrooms is a blend of art, skill, and science. I want to embark on a journey to learn everything I can about these fascinating and tasty fungi. I would like to share this journey with my peers. I want to bring a truly unique experience to my area. For now, my operation is too small to truly share my vision. Eventually, I aim to have a store front where I can really step up my game with a few imaginative ideas. To find out what those are..... well, you might just have to buy some Mushrooms! All of the Fungi grown at The Forest Floor are legal and do not contain any illegal substances. Once again, I do not sell "magic mushrooms". I only sell only wood loving species that do not contain psilocybin, such as Oysters, Lions Mane, Maitake, and other edible mushrooms. For more information on specific types and species of mushrooms, feel free to ask me and if I don't know, Il learn with you! All of my mushrooms are grown in 100% organic materials. Mushrooms can grow in many things. The mushrooms sold here are grown in a mix of hay and rehydrated oak pellets with no additives or fertilizers. For now, I will be posting when my crop is coming in until I have a steady flow of product ready to purchase. I will be doing local deliveries for most orders for now as the shelf life of some species are only a few days and I want to deliver them as fresh as possible. As the forest grows, I will be able to provide a wider variety of products and services.
