Our little guy continues to learn and grow. Every challenge, when presented correctly, is creating the partner I need him to be.
Enjoy. ♥️
A HUGE thank you to Honey Creek Fire Department for their wonderful hospitality.
Henry was born by emergency C-section on December 17th. Thanks for joining me on this adventure,
Paula Lomax
Follow along as I tackle the struggles of a single puppy litter and turn Henry into a human remains detection dog.

He definitely loves his job! 😂😂😂
A little Henry update. Sorry I haven't posted for a while, I completely missed sharing this.
Henry is all adolescent right now but with an amazing work ethic. Some days he is serious, other days he's a teenager. 😬🤦🏻♀️😂
My job is to make sure searching remains his favorite game while teaching him the new skills he'll need. I have to learn to change his behavior without squashing his spirit.
Too much pressure it's no longer fun.
No pressure and he doesn't advance.
Words to live by...
No matter who you're trying to coach (employee, child, student, K9 partner) if you squash a spirit it no longer matters what you were trying to change. 😉
Enjoy.
If you're looking for Henry, he's staring down the basement steps waiting for a toy to magically fly up...because it happened once. 🤦🏻♀️ This is his third check this morning.
He just stares. 👀 😂😂😂
I hope your day is full of fun and surprises! Happy Saturday!
🤦🏻♀️😂A little Henry update.. Sorry it's been awhile. Not a lot of formal training going on these days. This is when I take a little break from advancing with odor and let him experience the world and mature a bit.
No pressure, just fun. Always. ❤️
HENRY UPDATE:
I have two videos to share from today's practice. One long, one short.
Henry is a super fun little wonky workhorse with a great attitude and a weird shape. Lol! We've decided that he's more than one puppy put together 🤷🏻♀️😂😂😂 .. Like CatDog. Enjoy!
Oh man he's so much fun to work. ❤️❤️❤️
Just a little toy drive.💪😁
He had a really good practice yesterday. He's starting to work larger problems outside without scent tubes and is a little machine. Finding remains is his favorite game.

Should someone tell Henry that his WWE & MMA skills may not work on all Malinois?
🤔😂😂
Tonight's lesson:
Teaching Henry, with his super crazy toy drive, to listen and think instead of just frantically chasing Bravo. We started out with chaos and ended up with some control. ❤️
Henry's 1st Weekend Adventure! 👏👏👏
Henry accomplished several firsts this weekend.
He visited the Indiana Homeland Security search and rescue training center,
stayed in a hotel (stairs, elevators, etc)
worked a scent wall,
worked someone else's collection of training material,
"helped" 🤦🏻♀️ me set up scenarios for scent research,
played with new dogs,
and met lots of new people.
He did really really well for his age. I'm super proud of this little boy and his hilarious yet laid back attitude. He never stops moving but he's always compliant. To whomever was in the room below us, sorry, he doesn't know how to walk from point A to point B... Everything is a hop, run, or jump. 😬😂

Some serious best friend time happening here today. I may never get these two back in the house. ❤️😂
Partners in crime ❤️❤️❤️
Today's training focused on back feet placement, canned dog food as a distraction when working odor, and hanging out with his new best friend Lagertha. He did great! ❤️
Bravo and Lilah were in heaven with two puppies to play with.
Louie is moving out. 😂😂😂
. 12weeks old. 21lbs.
Henry and his new friend Simba. ❤️
Simba is in training to be Metamora Fire Department's Search Dog. 💪
SAR buddies.
It's amazing how fast they grow. ❤️
Today's training goal = the "through" command. I ❤️ this little boy.
11wks old.
...And this is why working dogs don't make good pets.
Since 5:30pm he's had training, he's played outside, he's played with Bravo, and yet he's been doing this for about 10 minutes.(that's a 2lb Bigdawg's dumbbell! 😂)
Did I complain he was a lazy puppy? Was that me? 🤦🏻♀️😂😂😂
11weeks old
The little man got introduced to bone and teeth today. He didn't skip a beat. 💪
I really really love this little boy ... Even if he never wags his tail or gives kisses. 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️😂
Enjoy ❤️
Henry attended his first birthday party today. Lots of people, a new dog, and a house full of distractions. He did phenomenal!
Okay, so I'm really starting to get excited on what this little boy is going to turn into..... Don't tell him though. 😉
Henry - 10 weeks old ❤️
*Loves hunting for odor
*Too busy for cuddles
*Too busy for kisses (unless you have food on your face 😂)
*Too busy to be carried
*So full of life ❤️❤️❤️
... Like it never happened. He's been playing all day. Thank. You. God. 🙏❤️
Henry meets the team ❤️AND
Henry scares us to death 💔
Big day for Henry yesterday. He went to his first fire department practice. He did great! No fear. Recognized odor. Played with other dogs. A wonderful time.
He also got really sick. Really really sick.
Henry was in and out of our vehicle for short sessions inside a concrete floor building from 12:30-4:00pm. Labs will find something to eat anywhere and even though this floor was clean we were constantly picking things out of his mouth. I grabbed a cigarette butt out of his mouth once, bits of paper/leaves, etc. His last play session with his new puppy friend seemed normal to everyone else but he seemed different to me. His energy was off. His body seemed different. Trust your gut! We made it a short play session and wrapped it up.
I drove 5 minutes home. When I got him out he was having slight neurological symptoms. They worsened quickly as I rushed him to the vet.
Head trimmers
Lack of coordination
Disorientation
Strange noises moaning and screaming
Hallucinations
Couldn't focus on your finger moving in front of his face.
Lethargy
At one point on the drive he went from screaming (which was constant) to dead silent and super still. I thought he was dying. 💔 I've never seen these symptoms in a dog.
He was too lethargic to induce vomiting when I got him to the vet so they rushed him back and gave him activated charcoal and IV fluids. They kept him and said they'd call in a few hours and let me know... By this time he couldn't walk without falling over. He didn't recognize me. Terrifying.
Around midnight they called. Henry was doing better. A lot better. Answered prayer 🙏🙏 They diagnosed Henry with ni****ne poisoning. Ni****ne poisoning from somebody too lazy to throw their cigarette butts away!!! Sometime during the day he must have swallowed one 🤷🏻♀️ Luckily his kidneys and liver are fine. He's home. He's about 90% back to normal. He's going to be ok.
TWO THINGS:
1. If you smoke, throw your damn butts away!!! Seriously. They are litter!!!
2. This boy better find Jimmy Hoffa in his career.. Just sayin! He's only been here 10 weeks and he's given me at least 10 heart attacks 🤦🏻♀️😂
Happy Monday everyone! Now that Henry is home mine is much better.
****ne
A little sibling playtime this morning. ❤️
Rowdy and Sammie (from Lilah's first litter) are joining in on the fun. Not pictured (Bravo and Lilah)...they are a black and tan blob of wrestling in the other room 🤦🏻♀️😂😂😂
Someone is getting their butt kicked this morning. 😂
Happy Friday!
Big news: Little Tango has found his new home. I couldn't be happier with the families who asked to adopt Tango and Charlie. These boys are going to live their best life. ❤️❤️❤️
Tango and his new best friend.
Henry isn't feeling the greatest after his vaccination tonight (hip pain). 😬
Bravo's response is melting my heart. ❤️
Otherwise Henry is doing great.
9wks ,15lbs 8oz
Uncle Bravo working his magic this morning ❤️
Henry is(was) a little overwhelmed by Bravo's intensity and was staying safe under the training box so.. Bravo gained his trust.
You have to see training, play, and work through the eyes of the person "or puppy" you are with if you want to succeed.
Great work Bravo and Henry!
Henry and Tango played with one of my ALL TIME favorite families today!! What a great outing! My amazing nieces and nephews did a wonderful job showing puppies that kids and new environments are safe and fun. Thanks gang! ❤️❤️❤️
8 weeks!!!
For his birthday, he mastered his alert. 💪❤️
This lazy momma's boy has taken some work (which he thinks is play), some thinking outside of the box, and definitely some replanning but I'm seeing a spark. Looking good little man!
