Veda 🩷

Veda is ready for a family. She is considered to be a low-medium energy girl. She loves people, anything to do with a tennis ball and is great with kids! She does good with other dogs and cats. Veda has taken a liking to water and loves to splash and play any chance she gets. She does not chew or destroy things, potty trained and kennel trained. She is an all around great girl who deserves some love.

ADOPTED!!!

Koffee has found his home! Bob and R***r came to visit Koffee a few weeks ago and fell in love with each other. Koffee and R***r are such a beautiful pair and seamlessly fit together.

Koffee will be going to dog parks and stores regularly to socialize. He will be going on big trips to many new places. Koffee will have the opportunity to work with a private dog trainer, as well!

We are looking forward to hearing all about the great adventures Koffee, R***r and Bob will experience. We could not have asked for a better family to give Koffee a loving home. Congratulations Koffee!!

Introducing Miss Veda May, a young sassy female. She was an owner surrender in May due to no fault of her own. She has settled in and is very ready for a new home!

Veda is very active and athletic. She is crazy over a tennis ball!

Veda has a more dominant personality so she would do best with a more docile playmate or in a single dog home. She has not shown the cats any attention, negative or otherwise. She is great with kids of all ages.

One-on-one Veda is a sweetest doll but is a wild child amongst her friends. She loves to vocalize and run when in the midst of the pack.

Koffee knows how to just look right into you. He has the smoldering look down to a T. He is definitely not camera shy and the results are always great!

He really enjoys the walks through the woods and getting to smell everything. Koffee doesn’t go to far and is always close by. He is good about following along and staying with you when off leash. He loves this time of day cause of the chance to explore.

An update from Baileys family!

The Cox family is beyond happy to have Bailey as their newest addition. They have had the best few weeks with her and are even more in love with her than when she came home to them. Bailey, or Miss B as they like to call her, is still obsessed with her feline sister and adjusting to a shared space. Baileys new favorite toy is her ducky, which she is proudly showing off to us! Update on Male A!!

It has been a few months since Male A has been adopted and he is doing so amazing! He has adjusted seamlessly into his new home and is extremely loved by his family. His sister sky is his best friend and they have quickly become a bonded pair. They are often found lounging together or playing and poking fun at one another. Male A has been in heaven with all his toys but has grown attached to his green frog, which he takes everywhere.

How can you say no to this face!

Koffee is just an amazing and sweet dog. He has been a pleasure to have in the rescue but we want more for him!

Mr. Koffee is 4 years old and would enjoy settling in with a nice family with a few kids to keep up with. If there’s no kids yet he’s good with a fur sibling as well. Koffee is searching for an active home that will take him exploring and out socializing often. A young handsome man like himself likes a night out on the town every once in a while too! When inside he is a perfect gentleman, well behaved and crate/kennel trained. He loves going places and being with people so car rides and adventures are the best reward. The more time with his people the happier he is!

Meet Koffee, a beautiful sable male that is 4 years old. He came to River Ridge on February 6th as an owner surrender due to no fault of his own. While he has been with us he has been the sweetest boy and on his best behavior.

Koffee is great with other dogs, is still curious about cats and has been gentle with young kids. He is a very active boy and has a lot of energy. He loves car rides and will jump in the backseat at every opportunity.

Congratulations to Miss Bailey who has found the perfect home! She was adopted on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024. When the Cox family came to look at some of the dogs we have for adoption they immediately bonded with Bailey. She took to the kiddos quickly making them her own and now has all the neighborhood kids to watch over as well. The Cox family is LOVING Bailey and we are so excited for her new journey 🐶

ADOPTED!!!

Male A is ready for a fresh start with his new family! Male A returned to River Ridge in April after learning it was not the best fit with his original adopters. We never gave up hope Male A would find his perfect home and luckily he has!

Bruce and Marcia are over joyed to welcome Male A into their homes. Male A has a new sister who is just as excited to have him home as they are. Male A will get to play ball til his heart is content, go on daily walks, and visit his new friends and family weekly. Male A seems to be having a seamless transition and making himself at home with his family.

Congratulations to Male A, we are so happy for you sweet guy!

How our shepherds become cat friendly!

Around here we have a great group of cats that are well versed on training the dogs. All of our cats have such different personalities and approaches when it comes to interacting with the dogs but each are equally affective. None of the cats at River Ridge are specially trained, just naturally talented at teaching the dogs to be respectful.

Below you can see one example of how the dogs and cats behave together. Sleeping together is extremely common but sometimes the dogs will even surrender their entire beds so the cats can have a peaceful sleep. All dogs and cats are taught to be respectful to each other and we are all to be one big happy family. This breed is extremely intelligent and obedient by quickly understanding what is/isn’t acceptable here and by demonstrating such restraint against their natural instincts so they can please us.

No one is to be mean or aggressive towards another. River Ridge does not tolerate taunting, chasing, nipping, barking, growling, scratching or pawing at each other. That means discipline goes both ways. The most common behaviors seen are licking/grooming, cuddling, playing or even sharing food.

Accomplishing these behaviors and mannerisms is not easy and requires repetitive reinforcement. Co-existing like this did not happen after one instance but is an on going lesson. The best thing to do is to address these problems in the moment consistently so that dog and cat both understand that those behaviors are not acceptable. Training collars can be a great tool to utilize by keeping them on the dog with a leash or small tab while the dog is roaming the house or outside but only when time is available to practice training. Keeping this attached allows for quick corrections. Always address the bad behavior with a sharp “No” then apply a quick pop with the training collar to reinforce the disciplinary action.

Hello Everyone! This is Anna and Alaina, the mother-daughter duo behind the scenes of 2nd Chance Shepherd Farm. Today marks our 2nd anniversary being live online so, we would like to express how grateful and appreciative we are to have all of your support. With every like, follow and share of a post comes more adoptions so your support is vital to our pups finding their homes. To better serve you and our pups we have been working very hard to improve our rescue. With this came big changes! We are so thrilled to announce that we are officially a non-profit organization!

Now, this is where it may become confusing so stick with us.

Since opening the rescue a few years back there has been an increasing incident of mistaken identity when it comes to our rescue. Many individuals have had confusion between us and other rescues with similar names and criteria across the United States. So, by becoming a nonprofit we have changed our name as well! We are no longer 2nd Chance Shepherd Farm, we are River Ridge Rescue! With this change we hope to become more accessible to you and everyone else. Soon, you will be able to notice some gradual changes across our page like new contact information, partnerships with other businesses, and providing donation information.

While we have loved being known as 2nd Chance Shepherd Farm and all it has entailed, we are excited to continue our journey in a new form as RIVER RIDGE RESCUE, A SHEPHERDS SECOND CHANCE.

Please allow us to formally introduce BAILEY as she is officially ready to begin the search for the perfect family!

This silver fox of a lady is approximately 3-4 years old with a ton of s***k! She is as healthy as a horse and a bit more stocky in build weighing in over 75 lbs of pure love! She has a heart of gold with everyone she meets and has quickly become loved by all. Bailey wants to be in involved and is very attentive to the point of following you around everywhere you go, especially kiddos.

Amongst the pack Bailey has taken place as a strong matriarch. She still exhibits many characteristics of a youngster, like pestering, when with an older dog, however, with younger ones she is more of a disciplinary mother. Livestock are still a learning experience for this gal but she aims to please.

Overall, Bailey is a sweet, gentle, lovable, teddy bear that is ready for a family of her own. She is as beautiful inside as she is out and loyal as can be! Please help us find this precious girl a home. If interested in adopting Bailey please contact our page via messenger or email.

Dog owners with a truck, this one’s for you!

We have found the BEST dog cover to have in your truck when hauling dogs. It covers the back of the seats, has panels for the doors, a screened window so the dogs can see the front, two pockets, grips on the bottom so it doesn’t move, and more! It has contained the hair and mess from spreading all over the truck and made for quick clean up. Installation is quick and easy, less than 10 minutes.

By far our favorite purchase! It is definitely not a want but a need! Let us know how you like it!

Training and Enrichment products!

All of these products have been very handy when working with the Shepherd breeds. The dogs love them and respond appropriately when used. All of these products can be found on the Amazon website.

Many trainers have recommended these prong collars when training dogs. Shepherds do great with these and respect the collar. They do NOT cause pain when used correctly! Each collar should be fitted to your dog for the best result. We use the small/medium size for our dogs which is 14-19" neck with 2.25 mm links. 2.25mm is the best size for an effective training session. Additional links can be purchased to adjust for a thicker neck. If more links are added it need to be equal on both sides. This brand is preferred since it has the metal release buckle for a easy on/off and is less likely to break compared to plastic buckles.

The double clip is a safety mechanism. One end is clipped to a regular collar and the other is clipped to a loop on the leash while the leash is clipped to the prong collar. this is incase the prong collar breaks or slips off the dog, a connection is still maintained and the dog is not loose. There are more options and colors available to choose from.

The vest are great for advertising the dogs. They draw attention to the dogs while still being able to showcase their beautiful features. It is not bulky but still heavy made and durable. The reflection is a bonus safety feature! They are easily adjustable to each dog and are a comfortable fit. We use a Large and X-Large for the Shepherds depending on weight. The custom patches are velcro and can be easily switched out. There are other colors and designs available!

The dogs love enrichment time with the lick mats. We use puréed sweet potatoes, yogurt or peanut butter (check out our Easter day reel on how we prep the mats!). The mini spatula and brush are super handy to have for spreading and cleaning. These work best for us because of the hard plastic back (not easily destroyed) and the option to attach to the kennel wall. This brand is currently unavailable but similar ones are.

Finally, KONG toys are so durable and last with these Shepherds. This one is favorite accross the board. It is easier for them to carry, to throw and chew on. Plus it squeaks!

Update on these sweet babies!

Evie has been working on some training and showing improvement with each session! She is such an intelligent little girl. Currently, we are working on sit, down and place commands. Also, Evie has learned a new trick on her own and can now open doors! She is definitely too smart sometimes!

Titan is as driven as ever. We are working on obedience behaviors and progressing his training. This includes dropping the ball when playing, a quiet command and place. He is a very high drive boy so we are working on him controlling his impulsive tendencies. What’s equally important is his unwavering attentiveness towards people. He is constantly your shadow going as far as following behind you while you mow. He is truly a good boy.

EVIE IS AVAILABLE!!!

This precious girl has come a long way and is finally ready to find her forever home!
Evie is a very sweet and down to earth girl with a little bit of a feisty side. She has a quiet personality, hardly making a peep. She can be shy but is starting to come out of her shell. Having the other dogs and going out places has definitely helped build her confidence.

She is good with kids and very docile when being handled. Walking on a leash is easy, you rarely have to make corrections. She is gentle when taking treats from the hand, and is not food nor toy aggressive. She has not shown much interest in toys but seems to enjoy the squeaky ones. Fetch is a work in progress but the chase is the fun part for her. Evie is still working on obedience commands but is just so good natured you hardly notice.

Evie is great with other dogs, cats, and horses. She has been showing interest in cattle, and starting to pickup herding behaviors from other dogs.

Evie is 9 months old and weighs 59 lbs. She is up to date on vaccinations and has been cleared by the vet to be adopted. She is a happy and healthy girl.

TITAN IS AVAILABLE!!!

This boy is a triple threat with beauty, brawn and brains that you don't want to pass up! You can't help but sigh when admiring his features because he is just so handsome! He has a medium length coat that is black and fawn with some white throughout. Titan is currently weighing over 70 lbs with room to grow! He certainly has a healthy appetite being food motivated but not aggressive. Titan is extremely smart; he already knows some commands and is kennel trained.

Being just over a year old, Titan is young and active. He wants to be by your side for anything and everything, so he is ready for an adventure buddy. He is attentive by wanting to be a part of any activity that you are engaging in. Titan is looking for a home with adults or older children since he still has some puppy behaviors.
