UPDATE on Renee!

I spoke to the vet this morning. Renee remains stable, but she did have a roller coaster night with her blood sugar dropping. The doctors continue to adjust her refeeding as the syndrome has to be handled very carefully. At this point, she may not be released Thursday as we had thought, but will know for sure tomorrow.

Renee has stollen the hearts of the BluePearl staff and she is getting not only top notch medical care, but also lots of love. While she certainly is a sick little girl, there is no doubt she is the most comfortable she has been in a long time. We are so grateful for your support as this is a costly endeavor, but no one deserves a chance more than Renee. Stay tuned!!

Taylor Swift- I am super sweet and playful, and I love to get all the attention from my foster family. I have a lot of energy, and I get along well with all my brothers and sisters. I am a bit of a Diva, but how could I not be with my name? (LOL) I do well around dogs and children. I am very curious and like to explore. I am full of energy and I would fit in great with a family with children. If you adopt me, your future will be full of adventure and shenanigans. She needs to go to a home with another kitty (preferably one of her siblings if you do not already have a cat).

My name is Frankie, but mom calls me Cupid. I AM a bit of a ladies man! She says I am just dreamy – deep brown pools of love for eyes, ringed in sophisticated and mysterious black, and a soft smooth coat of reddish gold. The I-phone says I am a red coonhound, but mom says I am a golden-hearted snugglehound. (Is that even a thing?)

I love to go on walks with you, and to play with pals in the yard. I have my place on my dog bed and am happy to kennel, but if you invite me to sit and snuggle, or curl up for a nap, well that’s just heaven in my book. I am protective of my mom, so need a minute to get to know other four-legged friends out in public – just to be sure they won’t hurt her. And I can be a little shy when I first meet you, but it won’t be long ‘til I am ready to be your bestie too.

I have three foster sister pups and a foster brother dog, and we all like to run and play. And the cat sleeps next to me sometimes! He’s actually okay. I have people friends of all ages: kindergarteners to grandmas. Sometimes I forget that I shouldn’t jump up to say hello, but I get so excited sometimes! I am working on learning all my good dog habits.

I am looking for forever people who will love me the way I will love you. People who are patient and understanding and who like to have fun and who like to relax. People who maybe have some toys I could play with. Hopefully they will like to go on walks. And treats. Do you have treats? I love a good treat, and I will sit for you!

And so 2024 ends as it began with countless animals needing help. The pups and mom pictured here ( 11 total ) are the latest to come into our rescue. There is a never ending flow of homeless pets, many who are suffering and in great need. In 2024 over 1000 came through our rescue. Sadly, that is just a drop in the bucket, but for those we were able to take, it was a life changing drop.

The final picture is the updated picture of Renee who remains at Blue Pearl in Franklin. I had posted an update on the original post earlier today, but in case you missed it, she is comfortable, bloodwork is stabilizing, and we are cautiously optimistic.

I want to thank each of you for following us so faithfully. Many of your names are so familiar as I see your comments regularly; you have become a part of the Proverbs’ family. Thank you for your support, for your shares, your encouragement, and your passion for animals. We hope each of you has a blessed, healthy 2025 and we look forward to sharing our stories with you as we try to save more deserving animals.

Arctic is a sweet boy who loves to play with all the dogs. He loves toys and will carry them in his mouth everywhere he goes. He is kennel trained and working on house training. He enjoys the company of another dog to play with. He will do great in any home setting. He is now ready for his forever home.

Simone is an absolute doll baby who will steal your heart in an instant. She reaches up for you to love on her any chance she gets. When she’s not frolicking in the yard or soaking up her surroundings, this sweet Great Pyrenees mix enjoys a good nap on a cool spot in the kitchen.

Despite a unique leg injury that occurred either at birth or very early on, Simone gets around just fine and doesn’t let it slow her down one bit. In fact, she uses her little paw to wave at her people, and it’s just the cutest thing! While her leg won’t grow as she does, it doesn’t stop her from living her best puppy life. The veterinarian that Proverbs uses recommends amputation at 16 weeks (or earlier if needed), and Proverbs will cover the cost of her surgery and spay at Cornerstone if she is adopted before it’s completed.

Simone is going to be a big girl full of love as she grows, and she’s already learning all the puppy basics. She’s working on crate training, taking frequent potty breaks, and will thrive with a family who can provide patience, grace, and lots of love. Yet another Bennett.😞

It all started last night when someone posted this heartbreaking picture of a starved dog spotted on Hicks Rd. inBellevue. The image haunted me, and I went to sleep hoping she had been picked up. Immediately checked this morning only to learn she was still on the side of the road. I want to thank Councilwoman Sherri Weiner who was able to reach an a.c. officer with MACC who met Sherri and two other good souls who were with this abandoned angel in just a few short minutes.

While I had not met this baby, I agreed to take her into our rescue and had a.c. rush her to a local vet, but from there we had her transferred to Blue Pearl inFranklin. She is now named Renee ( French for rebirth.) Renee was hypothermic and was covered with tarry stool. Her starvation and atrophied muscles are so troubling. This did not happen overnight. She has slowly been starving. She weathered last night’s rain and lay helplessly vulnerable to the elements. I assure you this was no new experience. It simply is heartbreaking.

Today has been an eventful day for Renee. Dr. Elliott at Blue Pearl referred to her as a “Bennett 2.0” and how ironic is it that both she and Bennett were in the heart of Bellevue. Her body temp initially was 93 and she had zero strength. She has had a bath and her skin with multiple sores has been treated. She has had extensive bloodwork and exam. The staff at Blue Pearl has fallen in love with this sweet girl. They believe she is about three years old and she seems to be soaking up the attention. Tonight, they start the tedious slow feed process and will monitor her ever so closely. She needs 24 hour care.

Renee is yet another face of over population. There quite simply are not enough good homes for all the animals being born. Each litter adds to the this tragedy and trust me, no breed is exempt from ending up in such condition at a time like this. The final picture is our estimate for her “initial” care. Renee is worth every cent and deserves to have good cancel out the bad, the horrific, the inexcusable neglect she has endured. As always, any help is greatly appreciated. Will update this post as we learn more.

Eight years ago, we were contacted about taking a purebred English bulldog from a breeder. They no longer wanted her as she had gotten pregnant by a pit.( Like that was her fault🤦🏼‍♀️) Poor girl had been bred over and over and it showed. She was simply exhausted and late in her pregnancy. Christmas night she went into labor ( and as is almost always the case with bulldogs) she needed a c-section. Several of us rushed to an after hours vet for this poor girl’s last delivery. It is a good thing we did as each pup arrived limp and almost lifeless. With the vet’s guidance, we all massaged the babies for several minutes and thankfully, they all responded. One by one they rallied, and I can’t tell you the relief we felt. Princess, the mom not only delivered but she also had a c section and her poor tail ( botch home job) surgically corrected that night. Later that evening, she and her babies headed back to the foster home. What a Christmas night that was. (2016) Weeks later we had entropion eye surgery done for Princess ( surgery to correct eyelashes which grow inward constantly rubbing the pupils and causing great misery.) That was something the breeder was willing to ignore. Princess was older, but had a few more good years as a beloved pet. Tonight, her only boy puppy, Gooch is celebrating his birthday a day early with a cheeseburger. He is an adored member of my son’s family. He sleeps with his very own little boy and is simply a joy. As cliche as it is, one man’s trash truly is another man’s treasure. I am hoping his sisters’ adopters see this and share their pictures. Rescue changes so many lives. Thank you for your belief and support of our rescue. If Gooch could personally thank you, he would.

Rachel Green is an incredibly sweet girl who gets along well with other dogs. She would thrive best in a home without cats, as she tends to chase them. Rachel is fully kennel trained and house trained. She loves running and playing with other dogs and would enjoy having a kid to play with. Like most shepherds, she enjoys spending time with her people as much as possible.
