A chin rest is a great behavior for helping with relaxation or for use as a “start button” for cooperative care! #dogtraining #forcefree #fearfree #eugeneoregon
Nail Trimming Doesn’t Have to Be A Battle
Nail clipping doesn’t have to be a battle! Our trainer Jesse shows you how to break it down using pattern games and shaping to make it smooth and fun for everyone involved. When you practice with your own dog, make sure you take it slow—going at your dog’s pace lets them get comfortable with each step so they’ll feel great about the finished behavior!
When muzzle training is a game, everyone wins! #dogtraining #eugeneoregon #positivereinforcement #dogsoforegon #pnwdogs

“The art of doing less”
Relaxing and watching the world go by can be a great skill for young pups to learn, but it must be practiced. Kali, a year old aussiedoodle, is practicing after a nice training walk with our trainer Keanna! #dogtraining #eugeneoregon #positivereinforcement
Teaching an automatic “wait” at doorways with our amazing trainer, Jesse! #dogtraining #eugeneoregon #dogsoforegon #pnwdogs
Using time limits to help dogs stay calm when they’re overexcited greeters! #dogtraining #positivereinforcement #forcefree #fearfree
Lemon gets worried about what lies past the front door, so our trainer Jesse worked on keeping her calm and connected using pattern games. This is day one and day two with the front door wide open. Creating predictable patterns around scary situations can do a ton to relieve your dog’s fear and stress! #dogtraining #forcefree #fearfree #eugenedogs #eugeneoregon #pnwdogs
Recall refresher! Sully was starting to blow off his recall. To help fix that we established a new recall cue (“ikimasu” is “go!” In Japanese), kept him on a long line, and made sure his reward was an event to remember! Look how happy he is to come back! #postivereinforcement #forcefree #fearfree #pnwdogs
If you’re looking for an easy but tasty treat for hikes and adventures, try lickables in a pouch! Dog safe baby foods work great, and you can even make your own lickables with a backpacking food tube and some peanut butter or cream cheese!

Blind dog fetches!
Dogs are amazing. Who needs eyes to play fetch? Not Helena! Our trainer Jesse also offers pet sitting and had the pleasure of watching @rockstardogtraining ‘s pups! Check out this video of Helena using her hearing to find and retrieve her toy!

Snuffle!
Snuffling for treats in a mat or in the grass gets your dog sniffing, and sniffing lowers their heart rate! Our trainer Keanna has her client Tillie using a snuffle mat between training repetitions to help her relax and keep her brain ready for learning. #dogtraining #positivereinforcement #eugeneoregon #pnwdogs #greatdane
Handsome boy Henry is a livestock guardian mix. LGDs tend to be very suspicious of anything they don’t recognize, and are bred to protect their herd. Unfortunately for Henry, that doesn’t always translate well to a more urban environment.
Fortunately for Henry, his mom is working hard with our trainer Jesse to work on turning away from scary things and trusting her to tell him things are safe. Good work, team Henry! #dogtraining #positivereinforcement #lgd #dogsofpnw #eugeneoregon
Stay safe out there, friends! It’s a good day to enjoy some indoor enrichment like lickimats, treat hides, or training games. What are you and your dogs up to?
Pattern games are science, but feel like magic 🪄
“Find it” aka treat scatter is a great way to help your dog decompress after an exciting or upsetting trigger! Did you know that sniffing is shown to lower dog’s heart rates? Tossing treats into the grass gets your dog sniffing which helps them calm back down. It’s like taking deep breaths! #themoreyouknow🌈 #dogtraining
