“63 years ago Laika became the first animal to orbit the Earth. She died in space; alone, in agony, and terrified.
She was a stray who was plucked from the streets of Moscow, selected for her small size and bright coat (that would show up nicely on film.)
She passed away five hours after she was thrust into orbit (although for over 40 years the truth was covered up and officials insisted she was alive for days after take-off.)
She died due to overheating. The satellite wasn’t sufficiently insulated from the sun’s rays, and she essentially cooked to death.
The Soviets admitted that they never planned for her to make a return trip, and knew she would perish in the experiment.

“The more time passes, the more I’m sorry about it. We shouldn’t have done it.”

“Horses used in bullfights are old horses, sold after serving all their lives.
Their vocal chords are mutilated, so as not to cry out in fear when the bulls approach them or gore them. This way the public does not realize that they are suffering.
When the bullfight begins, the horses are blindfolded, petrolatum and cotton are stuffed in their ears and nostrils, depriving them of their senses.
The horse is mounted for the picador, who is going to shred the bull's neck with a metal spear which he pushes deeply into the flesh.
The bull tries to defend itself by trying to pe*****te with the horns the neck or the stomach of the horses. In case of disembowelment the intestines are put back in place with hay then sewn with string or thread, without any anesthesia, analgesic or antibiotics.
Some horses die in the arena, guts in the air, like Xelim in 2012.
Others die of pain, stress...”

She was born in a factory farm. She was kept to become a breeder…and breed they made her. She was kept constantly pregnant. She spent months at a time locked in a tiny farrowing crate that she could not move in. She gave birth time and time again to piglets she was unable to nuture or protect. When she was no longer considered a good enough breeder, this is where she ended up, on the truck to slaughter. This is the first time she'd ever been outside a shed. It's the first time she'd ever felt sun on her ear.

And that was it. That was her life.

We lost one of our partners today.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of beloved Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) K9 Jack.

K9 Jack was a devoted member of the SEB K9 Detail for the past 4 years. K9 Jack saved numerous lives and courageously protected members of the Bureau during countless tactical operations.

K9 Jack was a Belgian Malinois who was imported from the Netherlands and became a member of the SEB K9 Detail in March of 2019.

K9 Jack was tragically shot and killed by a violent armed suspect during a tactical operation in Gardena. K9 Jack’s actions saved the lives of numerous members of the Bureau during the operation.

K9 Jack was a very social dog with the heart of a warrior. K9 Jack was not only part of the SEB family he was a beloved member of his handlers family. K9 Jack will be sorely missed by his family, the Special Enforcement Bureau, and all of the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department.

Very heinous case of animal abuse from Middlesex County. Is it true that the case has been closed? Hoping the prosecutor presses charges. “Laney’s mouth was taped shut, most of her ribs were broken, her skull was fracture multiple times, and she was put through a washing machine. The evidence is undeniable, yet they closed the case without filing any charges.”

I know this is Mickey's page but I wanted to take a moment to remember the 23 dogs that were killed at the Green Acre Boarding Facility in Gilbert, AZ 8 years ago today.

Sometime between 11 pm Thurs. 6/19/2014 and 5:30 am 6/20/2014 23 dogs in boarding at Green Acre Dog Boarding in Gilbert, AZ died.

I represented the owners of these poor dogs, family members as I referred to them, and it was because of the relationship I had developed with Sheriff Joe Arpaio through Mickey that I was able to convince him to reopen the investigation after Deputies initially called these deaths a tragic accident.

In the end, the owners of this facility were convicted of Felony Animal Abuse and Fraud. Though a former US Senator's son who was present when these dogs died had charges dropped against him...

The 2021 APHIS Inspection of Miami Seaquarium revealed the shocking amount of times the Attending Veterinarian's recommendations were blatantly ignored by training staff.
In one incident, after Lo**ta (Tokitae) received an injury to her lower mandible, the vet directed the staff to not request head in entry jumps from Lo**ta. The Training Curator, who has been working at this facility for just 6 months, disregarded the veterinary instructions and re-instituted head in entry jumps including speed runs and multiple high energy jumps.
These actions demonstrate the constant sacrifice of animal safety for the sake of exploiting them in performances for paying customers.
