If your dog struggles with excess energy and has a hard time focusing, try finding novel ways to exercise them and make them think. Agility or obstacle courses can be a great way to switch up your dog’s routine. Activities like this can also help your dog develop confidence if done in a positive manner.

This handsome dude went from 0 manners (even busting my lip when jumping up) to learning to hold a sit position and refining his focus and touch. But the best part of it, he finally found his home on Friday!

Kilare is here to remind you that sometimes training plans change and that’s okay! Each dog is an individual and we need to adjust our training to meet their needs.

We are testing out a theory with Kilare and seeing if we can walk him with a martingale collar or gentle leader to see if that will help his reactions towards seeing other dogs. He has a negative association with a harness and sometimes those insecurities can carry over during a walk.

Millie put on her most polite puppy shoes when I came over but we still found ways to work on her somewhat naughty teenage behavior.

I love working with families that are super proactive in helping their dogs learn. We picked out some new enrichment items to try out and did a recall drill. Her little girl showed off how she has taught Millie how to play dead!

We’ve implemented a routine for Lilly where she has to sit and wait at thresholds. This means she sits before we let her enter OR exit the house and her crate.

Doing this helps her learn better manners and have more structure living in a home. She gets the real life reward of getting to go somewhere she wants to once she offers the desired behaviors of sitting and waiting.

Lilly has picked up on training so well! We are exciting to see her grow in a new home.

Lilly would loooooove to find a home - she graduates from her board and train at the end of the month. Don’t you want a puppy that’s gotten a head start on learning basic commands and essential life skills??? ☺️

Future therapy dog in training? MAYBE SO! Lilly had a socialization day out with our resident therapy dog, Bagheera at 🍷

We worked on Lilly relaxing around new people in a public setting and calm greeting behavior. She was a total social butterfly and had many pictures taken with visitors.

Lilly learned so much today! We have slowly conditioned her to get comfortable with the [terrifying] tunnel and actually run through it to get a ball. She is finding her confidence and learning manners all at the same time.

Luke learns down like a champ!

Meet Luke! This handsome fella is our newest client and he is a doggy GENIUS. It’s so much fun working with a dog that LOVES to learn. During his first session, Luke learned a verbal “down” command. And guess what motivates him? BALLS! We can’t wait to see how he progresses! 🐾

Training with Distractions

Working with Ellie on building up her tolerance to seeing other dogs on leash. She has leash reactivity but very social off leash. Leash reactivity is where a dog had a heightened level of excitement on leash towards a stimuli (usually other dogs). It’s usually paired with intense vocalizations and many people view it as “aggression”. Here I’m just refreshing some of the commands she already knows and reinforcing her being focused on the training session. You can see the neighbor’s dog in the background which she notices but her reaction is minimal.
