Quill Feather’s Gone Rogue and Quill Feather’s Don’t Judge put on a show in the snow during a guided hunt at Quill Feather Farm. They pointed all twelve pheasants for some very happy clients who were able to knock down eleven. The boys even ran a bonus round brace that put up a couple of chukar.

The entire Modelo x Bruno 2022 litter continues to put in the work since returning from an impressive showing in North Dakota.

Rogue has been hitting the gamelands frequently and finding pheasants and woodcock, and will be guiding hunts at Quill Feather Farm. He will be training next year for the NAVHDA Invitational.

Judge has also been working birds on gamelands, most recently pointing a couple of birds for a youth handler! He has also stepped into the guiding ring and is proving to be worthy of the job.

Morgan has just finished her first full heat cycle and is starting back in the field guiding hunts at the farm. She will be training next year for the NAVHDA Invitational.

Modelo is athletic, biddable, spirited, and driven, and she is the perfect mix of family dog and working dog. When she’s in the field, she’s all business, displaying an intense and gorgeous point that shows off her trademark skunk tail. She’s got an amazing nose and has been helping guide hunts since she was 6 mos old. She performed beautifully on wild birds in ND at just 15 mos and again at 5 yrs. She’s a proficient swimmer and tenacious duck search dog. When she’s not in the field, she’s calm, sweet, and affectionate. She definitely has that sought-after off switch. Modelo recently earned a Utility Prize 1 and qualified for the NAVHDA Invitational.

Bruno is a sweet, biddable, bird-finding machine, a pure gentleman who is easy to live with. He was highly accomplished in Europe, proving to be a dual purpose gun dog, and has done much the same since being in the US. He is a skilled and proficient hunter on wild birds and is currently working towards NAVHDA Utility and Master Hunter titles.

Both have been thoroughly health tested (info can be found in comments). These pups will be driven and versatile hunters, equally adept in the field and water. I expect them to be a pleasure to own, train, and hunt. Buyers must agree to NAVHDA NA test. Pups will be dual registered with AKC and NAVHDA.

These two produced a phenomenal litter of pups previously (Rogue, Judge, Morgan), and we expect much of the same from this breeding.

Bruno is the sire of Modelo’s 2022 litter that produced three phenomenal pups. Planning a repeat breeding with this pair in early 2025.

Hunting educated grouse is a challenge, but the reward of harvesting birds with excellent dog work is unmatched.

Judge is really coming into his own. He’s matured significantly over the past few months and watching him work wild birds for the first time was inspiring. He handled beautifully and cooperatively, slammed a couple of points on sitting birds, learned to handle runners, retrieved to hand, and worked the field respectfully while on the ground with several other dogs. Excited for his future!

Quill Feather’s Gone Rogue “Rogue” NA1 UT1
Rogue put on a stunning performance during his first time on wild birds in North Dakota. He handled beautifully and retrieved cleanly…including deep water retrieves and difficult recoveries in cattail sloughs. He worked birds smartly and applied learning without hesitation. At just over two years of age, he is already working like a mature and experienced dog twice his age.

To date, Modelo has had two litters, resulting in a total of eight healthy pups. It was an incredible experience to have seven of the eight together for a week in North Dakota. The older litter (2y3m) worked and handled unbelievably well and learned wild birds quickly. The younger litter celebrated their first birthday out on the prairies of ND. And while each of them is at a different level of development, they all demonstrated learning from the experiences only wild birds can provide. Trying to get them all lined up for a picture proved to be the most challenging task of the week 😉

I am in love with this dog. Her nose, her drive, her desire, her stamina…all are impressive. She’s working the field beautifully and responsively. Her temperament is highly desirable and her biddability is amazing. She has absolutely proven herself here in North Dakota.

Quill Feather’s Maverick “Maverick”
I’m constantly impressed with this pup. This was his first solo hunt on wild birds. He handles beautifully and acknowledges new scents easily. We didn’t encounter birds until the very end of his run, but he caught scent of a sharp tail grouse and worked it. It flushed ahead of him and circled back around. He stopped on the flush and remained steady, and was rewarded with this awesome feather-legged bird!
