*WARNING TO DOG OWNERS*
A local 14 month old, beautiful, Border Terrier is currently fighting for her life in intensive care with PARVO VIRUS. It is a highly contagious disease affecting only dogs and is transmitted by dog poo, vomit or being in contact with another infected dog. (It cannot be passed on to any other animals). Your dog only needs to sniff the contaminated poo to become infected. It started with, a lack of appetite, lethargy and then persistent vomiting on Monday, which didn't settle with an anti-sickness injection. There was also an episode of bloody diarrhea. The vets initially thought she had a blockage/obstruction so she was cut open but nothing was found. She soon became seriously unwell, and it was only then that she was tested for Parvo Virus, which unfortunately was positive. Dogs are protected by being vaccinated, so I don't want to cause alarm, but the dog WAS vaccinated, albeit due her booster in a couple of weeks time. The reason for posting is, if your dog does start to show signs of lethargy, lack of appetite, persistent vomiting and bloody diarrhea please DO NOT WAIT, There is no cure for Parvo virus, the body needs to fight it itself, but starting symptomatic treatment as soon as possible could save your dogs life. Also a note to all of the IRRESPONSIBLE dog owners locally who don't pick up their poo around the area and there is a lot on the streets! Your lack of respect and care for others by not picking up after your dog, can and will kill other dogs and not only devastate families emotionally but also financially. PICK IT UP!

There's a hidden reason we ask you to keep your dog on a lead at Badbury Rings at this time of year. Ground-nesting birds, such as endangered skylarks, are easily spooked - their nests are hard to find without a dog's keen nose, but one happy, exploring pup can mean the parent abandons the nest. Help us provide a safe haven by keeping your dog on a lead between March and August.
