ALL HAIL MOTHER NATURE’S ORIGINAL SUPERFOOD FOR DOGS🐶, THE ALMIGHTY EGG🥚 AKA NATURE’S MULTIVITAMIN!

When sourcing the perfect longevity snack for your dog, the humble egg🥚 should be at the top of your list! If there was such a thing as a perfect food for pets, it would be eggs. They are rich in bioavailable amino acids, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals while being relatively low in calories and carbs. Whether from chicken🐔, quail, or ducks🦆, eggs are nature’s nutrition bombs!

Eggs🥚 contain all ten essential amino acids needed to support effective muscle growth, recovery and maintenance. Eggs are also rich in choline, a nutrient crucial to the production of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine in the brain, which aids brain function, memory, and may help treat & even prevent “doggy dementia”.🧠

Lastly, research shows as many as 60% of dogs have signs of arthritis🦴, on x-rays, and one veterinary study found dogs who consumed egg shell membrane had significantly less joint pain, so start feeding your pets more eggs as treats!

What’s the best way to feed an egg?🍳

The fastest method, obviously, is to offer them raw… this is how animals have been eating eggs for millennia. However, according to science, lightly cooking the egg protein (called avidin) makes the B vitamin biotin easier to absorb but if you opt to cook you eggs, remember to not overcook them! Logically, applying too much heat to good food is a naturally destructive process. The chemistry of heating foods looks a lot like unwinding molecules, for better or for worse. Heating egg whites is generally beneficial, however, the yolks would do better with less heat, because heat damages fats and vital nutrients inside.

Soft boiled is the ultimate way to cook an egg🥚 (this is when you boil an egg, but it’s still a little runny and the yolk is definitely not hard) because the fats and nutrients in the yolk essentially have three protective layers from oxidation – the water, eggshell, and egg white. This way, all of the good stuff in the egg yolk is maximally preserved while the whites are cooked enough for best protein utilization and removal of avidin.

Instructions for soft boiling:
Fill a medium pot with water and heat to a gentle simmer, just below boiling. Using a slotted spoon, carefully lower the eggs into the water and let simmer for 7 minutes (6 minutes for a runnier egg).

When choosing eggs, go for pastured, free-range eggs to get the most nutrients. One egg is about seventy calories. My 30lb dog Shubie gets an egg on her meal several times a week.

🐾Scatter Feeding🐾

Here are Ruby and Bracken snuffling for treats. As you can see by their tails, they’re certainly enjoying themselves!

This type of hunting is perfect to help dogs calm down and is also a great alternative to feeding from a bowl. It can be done in the house, the garden or even out on a walk.

Walks don’t just have to be about pounding the pavement or chasing a ball. This type of exercise will satisfy a dog’s natural instincts and engage their brain, which is far more beneficial to them.

Self service at the Free Forager Cafe

Dogs are hunters and alongside hunting for prey (and sometimes smelly stuff too 💩) they may also hunt for fruit and nuts
Encouraging hunting (whether scatter feeding or foraging) can help tire the brain and helps dogs to rest

So today we had a few Blackberries for breakfast ❤️

Blackberries are seasonal and all my dogs love to find them at this time of year
Nice energy boost, Fresh, tasty and full of vitamins⭐️

Plus they can help themselves 👍🏻

🐾 PUPPY VISITS 🐾

We had the pleasure of meeting these two gorgeous girls yesterday when we visited them in their new home.
Their family want to give them the very best start and we helped out with some simple games to help build focus and impulse control.

Two puppies is very hard work and it’s vital that they spend time apart, particularly when they’re training.
Both puppies really used their brains and worked hard for their rewards today. We’re pretty sure they’re going to be quick learners and make fabulous companion dogs for a special member of their family.

Today is Pet Remembrance Day.

I’ve lost a number of dogs in my time. Each one special ❤️ and heart breaking 💔

None more so than my young dog Hunter who I lost last year
That hit me like a wrecking ball and I still have an emptiness in my heart for him

Please join us in remembering the companions who are no longer with us, and share with us your photos and memories of those beloved pets who have crossed the rainbow bridge 🌈

Familiarisation ❤️

This is Scouts first proper agility show. ❤️
Full of dogs, people, strange place and smells, excitement and noise

Ideally he would have clocked this months ago
So it was important the intro was managed 👍🏻

It’s been harder through lockdown to get puppies out and about seeing the world and quietly experiencing new things confidently

It is really important for very young puppies to experience these things. I prefer to do lots of this when I’m carrying them too. I can encourage them and give them confidence in my arms before I get them on the ground

✅Get them out and about in your arms
✅Introducing them at a distance
✅Give them time to watch and absorb things
✅Not too fast or not too long
✅ talk to them, encourage and protect

Older puppies need this too 👍🏻

During lockdown everything has been quieter
⬇️Less cars
⬇️Less people
⬇️Less shops and cafes open

Give older puppies the same opportunities and introduce them regularly and gently

The term chiropractor is protected by law and a chiropractor must have completed a human chiropractic degree and be registered with the General Chiropractic Council.

The term animal chiropractor is not protected in the same way so some of us have done a human qualification then animal training and some have trained in manipulation of animals only.

The British Veterinary Chiropractic Association is made up of vets and chiropractors who have undertaken further studies in animal chiropractic. All have them taken a certification examination and past.

Many animal chiropractors don’t just adjust (specific manipulation). They do offer other forms of treatment eg laser, soft tissue therapist as well as rehab.

Chiropractors, physiotherapists and osteopaths are covered under the exemptions order of the vet act.

It was a lovely light evening and a little cooler for training but we did skill training last night in very short sessions with lots of rest periods in the cool 😎
