Went to see CATS production of Dracula : A Comedy of Terrors last night ( opening night I believe). The show was fabulous. The cast turned on a great performance, the sets & costumes were brill, and writing very humourous. Although all the cast were fab, I have to single out the brilliant performance of Farrel as a very goth Count Dracula. Bravo! I think there are 7 performances so make sure you get a ticket 🧛‍♂️

Well, I was going to stay in Jericho on the Jordan River near Lake Galilee (I’m not making that up) last night. After a snippy publican told me I would not be self sufficient enough to camp behind their pub, and the cook had buggered off, I decided to head to Alpha - they have taps on their bottle trees.

Jericho did grab my attention although I was relieved at the possibility of a bunch of priests wandering around blowing their horns all night. It does have the smallest drive-in theatre in Australia. They still screen films every third Saturday. That would have been fun, except for the racket from said priests.

Alpha was nice and the tiny gold club did a decent snitty.

Winton and dinosaurs 🦕🦖 today. Banjo Patterson wrote “Waltzing Matilda” here. It has become Australia’s unofficial alternative anthem. For friends overseas, it is about an itinerant worker back in the 1800’s. He is down on his luck, steals a sheep, gets caught and suicides to avoid arrest. Given that modern Australia was heavily influenced by our convict past it’s fair enough. If I pitch camp near a billabong I’ll avoid ordering the lamb 🤣

Weird place, Barcaldine. Sat under the tree of knowledge, and my mind went blank then on the railway station there was an emu trying to catch a train. So I went to the pub, named after Shakespeare in a town where Henry Lawson and Banjo Patterson are venerated. The tree of knowledge is seen as the place where workers rights in Australia were born. Excellent monument with softly clanking timber’s in the breeze. Shame some muppet poisoned the 200 year old tree in 2006.
