For many reasons, the time has come for me to step away from Marys-ShelterTails.org. This has been an agonizing decision, having advocated for shelters and rescues for more than 23 years.

I am extremely grateful for all those who have supported my mission by adopting, donating or spreading the word about the needs of our homeless pets.

I am proud of the work our shelters, rescues and I have accomplished through the years, as well as the work shelter staff continues to do daily. The joy and fulfillment of helping our homeless pets will stay with me forever.

Please take care of your present and future pets. Adopt, donate or volunteer at your local shelter or rescue.

Minnow and Guppy, 3 months, were abandoned by their mom at 3 weeks old. They are lovable, playful, silly and snuggly sister and brother. Update: Thank you all who donated to my $3 Shelter Challenge on Marys-ShelterTails.org! Our shelters and rescues are extremely grateful for the $3,859 in donations 12 animal rescue organizations received in this year’s Challenge that ran the month of May. That brings the grand total for nine years of the Challenge to a whopping $95,244! (3 years on this site, 6 years in my days of working for a local newspaper.) Of course, our homeless pets are always in need and can use your donations year-round. Please consider making a donation today to your favorite animal welfare organization. You may be helping your own future pet!

Poor Pierogi, 7, was rescued from a colony in 2019, adopted in 2021 only to be orphaned when her owner passed away in April 2023. Not happy to be back in the shelter.
