Rewarding even brief moments of intense attention from a puppy is crucial. By doing so, you , encouraging the puppy to offer that attention more frequently and for longer durations. Puppies, like all dogs, repeat behaviors that earn them rewards, whether it's treats, praise, or play.

If these moments of go unnoticed or unrewarded, the puppy might stop offering them because it doesn’t see the value in doing so. Consistently marking and rewarding those moments helps build a strong foundation for future training and strengthens the bond between you and your dog.

How do you usually reward your dog during training? Treats, toys, or something else?

Turning 'No' into 'Yes'"
"Your dog jumps on guests the moment they walk in. Frustrated, you scold him, but the next guest gets the same enthusiastic treatment. Why? The truth is, dogs don’t understand scolding the way we think they do—but they do understand rewards."
1. is repeated
o Dogs naturally repeat behaviors that bring them rewards, even if those behaviors don’t make sense to humans (like chewing shoes).
2. The Power of Alternatives:
o When a dog does something undesirable, think of what you want them to do instead.
o Example:
 Jumping on guests ➡ Teach them to go lay down on their bed like this .
3. and Timing:
o Reward the desired behavior immediately to create a strong association.
4. That Matter:
o Not all rewards are created equal; discover most—food, play, or praise.
5. Patience Is Key:
o and consistency. Dogs are learning a whole new language, so be patient and celebrate small wins.

with the right approach. By focusing on rewarding the behaviors you want and offering clear alternatives, you’ll build trust, strengthen your bond, and see your dog thrive."

The focused connection between a dog and their handler in a moment of training. Dog training strengthens the connection between you and your dog. In a distracting atmosphere where a strange dog is close by to this team, it looks like nothing else exists.

Have you experienced moments like that with your dog?

You’re in sync, communicating without words, and the bond you share feels stronger than any distraction. It’s one of the most rewarding parts of the human-dog relationship—when you're both fully engaged and connected, regardless of what’s going on around you.

Take some time this weekend to build the bond with your dog.
