I owe you all an update on Lazarus. I’ve been really busy with him and the other cats, but mainly him. Since he had to come home with me, I wanted to give him the best care he deserves.
As you all know, I initially wasn’t able to get the right medication—but we didn’t give up, and we GOT IT!
Just five days on the proper medication has been a game changer.
By day three, he was able to eat on his own, stand up more and more, and slowly open his eyes. His nose and eye bleeding reduced, and he wasn’t as congested.
By day four, the congestion had eased even more. He finally started using the litter box instead of peeing under himself, and his first solid p**p arrived—shockingly, no diarrhea, which I was fully expecting.
By day five, I removed the IV catheter. He started talking to me whenever he saw me, and I began feeding him a little more each day. He still isn’t drinking on his own, so I’m giving him SQ fluids twice a day.
By day six, I switched him to oral medication mixed with his food.
He continues to improve daily. He still sneezes occasionally, sometimes with a bit of blood, and he sleeps a lot. But he absolutely loves his catnip toy and stuffed animal.
Since regaining his sight, he has never shown aggression—only love. The moment I start petting him, he rolls over and shows me his belly.
To help maintain his hygiene until he can groom himself again, I’ve been bathing him multiple times a day with pet-safe wet wipes, which he enjoys.
Unfortunately, he’s still just skin and bones, but he looks 100% better.
Just a side note: We don’t know what happened to him before he ended up as a "frozen" cat, but I’m discovering more wounds on him that are in the process of healing.
Thank you to everyone who donated and for all the kind thoughts and prayers.
