I owe you all an update on Lazarus. I’ve been really busy with him and the other cats, but mainly him. Since he had to come home with me, I wanted to give him the best care he deserves.

As you all know, I initially wasn’t able to get the right medication—but we didn’t give up, and we GOT IT!

Just five days on the proper medication has been a game changer.

By day three, he was able to eat on his own, stand up more and more, and slowly open his eyes. His nose and eye bleeding reduced, and he wasn’t as congested.
By day four, the congestion had eased even more. He finally started using the litter box instead of peeing under himself, and his first solid p**p arrived—shockingly, no diarrhea, which I was fully expecting.
By day five, I removed the IV catheter. He started talking to me whenever he saw me, and I began feeding him a little more each day. He still isn’t drinking on his own, so I’m giving him SQ fluids twice a day.
By day six, I switched him to oral medication mixed with his food.
He continues to improve daily. He still sneezes occasionally, sometimes with a bit of blood, and he sleeps a lot. But he absolutely loves his catnip toy and stuffed animal.

Since regaining his sight, he has never shown aggression—only love. The moment I start petting him, he rolls over and shows me his belly.

To help maintain his hygiene until he can groom himself again, I’ve been bathing him multiple times a day with pet-safe wet wipes, which he enjoys.

Unfortunately, he’s still just skin and bones, but he looks 100% better.

Just a side note: We don’t know what happened to him before he ended up as a "frozen" cat, but I’m discovering more wounds on him that are in the process of healing.

Thank you to everyone who donated and for all the kind thoughts and prayers.

Lazarus’ update is a deeply personal one this time, as I hardly know where to begin.
His condition hasn’t shown much improvement—until just the past couple of hours. He hasn’t been eating, drinking, or even standing on his own.

For the first time today, he opened his eyes for a couple of minutes, revealing his beautiful green eyes—a moment that felt so significant.

I was finally able to force-feed him 40 ml, and thankfully, he managed to keep it down. Even though he kept his eyes closed, he opened his mouth every time I brought the syringe close, allowing me to feed him. It wasn’t as easy before, but today felt different.

He’s been on IV fluids all day, which I turn off overnight. He’s also receiving medication two to three times daily. I reintroduced the nebulizer last night and have been using it two to three times daily again, as his nose and lungs remain severely congested.

I am holding on to the small signs of hope.

PS: Emotionally, it’s even harder knowing that I have access to everything I need for a sick animal at the clinic, anytime I need it. But when we specifically order something for him, and it’s on backorder, what can I say or do? ( other than being disappointed )
Of course, we’re looking into alternatives, but it’s not the same.
Not every clinic carries the medications we need, and even if they do, the price is significantly higher—even though we are also a clinic.

Thank you so much for your help and generosity in supporting Lazarus.

When Lazarus arrived, he was on the brink of survival. He was severely hypothermic, so much so that we couldn’t even get a temperature reading. Malnourished and extremely dehydrated, his fragile condition was heartbreaking. Despite this, Lazarus showed a glimmer of hope as he began responding to treatment.

Recognizing the critical care he needed, we made the difficult but necessary decision to let one of our dedicated veterinary tech volunteers take him home. There, he could receive round-the-clock care, compassion, and attention in a safe and nurturing environment. While his journey to recovery is far from over, we are doing everything possible to give Lazarus the fighting chance he deserves. His story is one of hope, resilience, and the power of a community coming together to save a precious life.

Thank you for supporting our clinic.

It's crucial not to walk away in cold weather if you see a sick cat that needs help. Cold temperatures can quickly worsen a cat's condition, especially if it is already unwell. Cats are vulnerable to hypothermia and frostbite, and a sick cat might not have the strength to find warmth or food on its own. By stepping in to help, you could save its life. If you're unsure how to help, contacting a local animal rescue or shelter can ensure the cat gets the care it needs. Compassion in such moments can make all the difference.

This is Lazarus. Yesterday afternoon ( 1/21 ) , we received a call from a woman asking for help for a cat that had collapsed and was no longer moving. We advised her to bring the cat to our clinic immediately.

- The first call came from two 15-year-old boys who couldn’t simply walk away from him. We would like to thank both of you for your heartwarming actions. - ❤️❤️

I asked their mom permission: Payt’n is ( 24 ) , Tsarr ( 15 ). Amazing kids!

When he arrived, we couldn’t even get a temperature reading. He was severely malnourished and extremely dehydrated. Thankfully, he is responding to treatment, but he still has a long way to go before he is out of danger.

You are safe now. ❤️ We won’t give up.

At our clinic, we have some wonderful cats who are waiting for their forever homes. ( 34 and these are just some of them)
Whether it's a holiday or not, we're here every day, working to make their lives better and brighter. These cats deserve the love, care, and attention that a home can provide.

They may have been through difficult times, but with your help, they can experience the warmth and joy of being part of a family.
Adoption doesn't take a holiday, and neither do we in our mission to find these cats the loving homes they deserve. If you're ready to make a difference, consider adopting one of our clinic cats and change their life forever, please feel free to message us via messenger or reach out to Wayward Whiskers - the adoption will go through them.
