Today I took that risk. For three months, I busted my behind and all while I was in a lot of pain from Autoimmune stuff, I decided I could sit at home in pain or keep going through it! I did it!
The results may not have been what my goals were today, but I know Ruthie and I have done our best (when she wasn’t preoccupied .. SQUIRREL!🤷🏼‍♀️). But I’m better today for it! And so is she! This program is amazing and I can’t thank them all enough Teens and Oregon Mustangs and Erica Fitzgerald for being the amazing person you are for facilitating this program. And all the staff, you all are wonderful.

If you have ever even entertained the idea of training one, and you want help, I’m here for you and you SHOULD DO THIS NEXT YEAR! You will be a better person and you will have saved a life!

We are on our way out this afternoon after Brent is off work(school teacher)for competition! Whoop whoop!
It’s been a very long, challenging(with my health and having to miss a lot of training days) road, however, I’ve learn so much more this year again! I’ve become more of who I want to be and that made it so much better on my horse! She is such a gem!

Please pray for us Friday around 12:30 and that afternoon as we will be competing.

I am so proud of her as she continues to be so willing.
We have the saddle on her. (Since July 10th) and she trailers, bathes, groundwork awesome, showmanship, trail obstacles, and more!

♥️please come watch all of the amazing mustangs and trainers as we showcase all of our very hard work.
T.O.M. Is the best program around. The amount of work we all do is hard(hence the word challenge). And the behind scenes action is… well, irrefutably just amazing, the people who put on this program are invaluable. Thank you to Erica Fitzgerald and her whole family, both blood and program-wise! You guys really need to be recognized for the selflessness and hard work you do! 🥰💪🏼🙏

We are about 30 days from our Mustang Challenge with Ruthie. Keeli has put in a ton of hours desensitizing and training this beautiful mare from the Paisley Desert. Ruthie is pretty special. In order to help pay for this program and competition, each trainer is asked to sell raffle tickets to support these horses that are rescued from challenging circumstances.

The raffle happens on September 4th and you do not need to be present to win. All proceeds go directly to the Mustang Program. The 4 prizes you could win are a Bighorn 18.3 cuft Executive Safe, Cabela's Outdoorsman Series 5000w/4000w RV-Ready Portable Generator with Wheel Kit, Outdoor Living Firebowl with 4 Bass Pro Chairs, and Cabela's Polar Cap Equalizer 80-Qt Cooler.

If you would like to support Keeli and these mustangs, please let us know. We would greatly appreciate it.

To catch up with Ruthie (AKA Rue), you’d have to do some trekkin’ with us to keep up.
We have worked hard on exposure, more trust, lots of traveling; trailering had proven to be more of a challenge again but she seems to have it.

We have the saddle on and are just getting used to it’s feel, slow and steady, she really tried to trust and it proved to bring her into her parasympathetic response. We will just allow her to
Stay there for a while without pushing this, as I want it to be a purely happy process. If she shows me she’s ok to move forward we will. But she’s telling ME where she’s at.

Pressure and release in small amounts has proven to be her ticket to healthy responses.
This day at Perrydale Trails she showed a lot of bravery, curiosity, and hard work. I see she really likes having a job. It didn’t go without some fun for her tho. She got a lot of breaks grazing on some amazing greens with quite the views!
We will be going again soon!

She is a delight. Truly.

Just a quick share here on how Ruthie is doing.
We had a very big weekend last weekend at Canyonville Rodeo so we brought her.
I’d like to say it was peaches and crème but we got through it. With her not being at a busy barn to start she will need more exposure to caos around her, such as rodeos!
We will be taking her everywhere we go. Often. And do our best to allow her to desensitize to the new noises and sights.
But first I wanted to share a video of how I do their feet to start. This sweet little boy does a great job!

10/06/2022

This one looked like a different color of wood, so it took us a minute, along with the “odd” flowers on the side of it😉.
She just needs to check it out first, then smell it. Then think, then she trusts! What a good girl.

10/06/2022

Working on a little trotting. This proved to be not as easy as it looks here. But, we did it!

I didn’t get a video of her absolutely terrified of the 4ft in diameter red and blue bouncy ball. I was going slow with it. And releasing. But then she shocked us all and tried to jump it from a stand still! Crazy kid! It was so funny. She really likes to jump!

10/06/2022

Haven’t posted in a while but she’s doing well. Lots of time spent with exposure to different things, places and people. She’s coming along well! 🥰

25/05/2022

Rue has allowed me to pick up her two front feet after being so very nervous and repelling just simple touch on her body let alone legs.
So proud of her. I’ve found she works better on more touch in the stall rather outside. Makes sense! She’s coming along in her trust.
We have the fly mask, and sheet on as well! Getting used to the feeling around her hind legs and belly! 🙌😊

23/05/2022

I didn’t get a pic but we have been going back to basics of touch and desensitizing.
She is so willing and patient. Still so very sensitive to touch. But is doing so well on training in leading, turning, in hand. Trailering is gooood! The divider is in and she’s doing well!
Still very skittish, but doesn’t bolt or turn or blow up. Worked with the flag, and legs/feet and took her out of round pen/barn a few days ago and is in the pasture with Esme. She just stands there to allow me to catch her(we worked on this a lot😅).
She is finally eating grain with her supplements. Not her favorite. But she’s doing it!
She loves massage and instantly is relaxing once she knows she doesn’t have to “work”. She is really a sweet girl.

17/05/2022

We accomplished a lot today. A little bit a few times then moved on.
*Trailering is going well, she’s working through her fears! And doing it!
*lunging, wider circles with teaching her to switch directions more smoothly!
*picking up feet( a usual spot that takes more time) she’s moving forward with this well.
*grooming. Her tail, with her seeming past injury to it, is very sensitive. Taking my time here. Once again, she’s working through and trusting here, but she needs to go slow. Sweet girl!
*💥⚡️The one thing that we really had to work through and was oddly, the most nerve racking, so far, was the fact that I took her to the edge of the barn door and watched Paityn ride her barrel horse down In the arena. I have never seen a horse be so on alert and actually full body trembling in fear. As she watched her new friend walk, trot and canter around barrels, it’s as if Rue thought her friend was being eaten by that small human on her. Her mind was so blown! So, we showed her all the gear on Summer, and let her see her friend just happy and fine, NOT eaten alive! 😆. I both felt so bad for her actual fear and was giggling inside as to her total shock, literal shock! We sat and watched it so she could process it. Looks like that’s my next step to keep watching Pai ride Summer! Good day!

15/05/2022

She no longer bolts from me and is softening. Phew, this was no easy task to do in one week! Her mind is so smart and willing, not without fear, but she’s willing to work through it with me. So kind!

15/05/2022

By spending a lot of time with patients, perseverance and a lot of release and praise, we accomplished a lot in one week. Today we accomplished two large steps. I’m honored she is continuing to grow in her trust of me!

Thank you Hubby and Amber VanCleve for videoing and being there today for these moments!

09/05/2022

To end the day I gave her time outside next to other horses in the round pen.
Did touching on her R side (was more sensitive).
So blessed!

Happy Mother’s Day to me! 🥳😘

Happy Mother’s Day to me! 🥳😘

09/05/2022

Today was a big day, I decided to see how she felt about touch since she was already getting the concept of lead. With patience, calmness, and lots of release, she really understood I wasn’t a threat.
I was pleasantly surprised with how she allowed me to pet her face ,top of head, neck, chest, shoulder and back/belly. Pretty sure she thought it felt great, when her eyes got heavy;
Lots of deep breaths, licking, chewing, and cocked back foot!

And then…. She was patient while I struggled to feed the tag rope through the “clasp”. But finally…
Happy Mother’s Day to me! 🤗🙏🏼

We took our time.
One goal of mine is to really not allow her to get tooo scared. Wanting to take it as far as she will allow without too much pressure,at first. Then I will increase as I earn trust.
She came out with little effort on our part.
She then sniffed my 9yo first! She loves her. And then next, me!
Got ahold of her rope and she really tolerated me taking the liberty of just seeing how she’d react to the lead pressure. Got the basic concept fairly fast! Ended on a good note. She’s a sweet, curious love!
When she startles, it’s over as fast as it starts. She has yet to blow up at all.
Earning trust!
