Hi friends, Ace, this sweet Staffordshire terrier mix, is still looking for a new home after his owner passed away before the holidays. If you are interested in learning more, please email our Bereavement and Volunteer Services Director Nancy McCranie at [email protected]. He's microchipped, his vaccinations are up to date, and his owner's sister is offering to cover his expenses for life. She lives in California in an apartment with two cats, so can't take him. Can you help find him a new home? He's a very good boy!!

Our hearts are heavy today as we let you all know that our beloved German Shepherd, Champ, passed away peacefully at home. He was our constant, cherished companion during the last 13 years and was adored by the entire Biden family. Even as Champ’s strength waned in his last months, when we came into a room, he would immediately pull himself up, his tail always wagging, and nuzzle us for an ear scratch or a belly rub. Wherever we were, he wanted to be, and everything was instantly better when he was next to us. He loved nothing more than curling up at our feet in front of a fire at the end of the day, joining us as a comforting presence in meetings, or sunning himself in the White House garden. In his younger days, he was happiest chasing golf balls on the front lawn of the Naval Observatory or racing to catch our grandchildren as they ran around our backyard in Delaware. In our most joyful moments and in our most grief-stricken days, he was there with us, sensitive to our every unspoken feeling and emotion. We love our sweet, good boy and will miss him always.

Never leave children, disabled or elderly adults, or pets in parked, unattended vehicles! Studies have shown that the temperature inside a parked vehicle can rapidly rise to dangerous levelss. Leaving the windows slightly open does not significantly decrease the heating rate.

“We are looking for anyone willing to donate or loan [115V electric power] generators which don’t require grounding. Please email [email protected] if you can help.”

Our Town Lake shelter was unfortunately affected by the widespread power outages this morning. We had some staff on site overnight and in nearby hotels ahead of the snow, who have been working hard to keep our animals on campus warm since we lost power at about 1:30a.m. Getting our generators grounded has proven difficult with conditions so we are looking for anyone willing to donate or loan generators which don’t require grounding. Please email [email protected] if you can help.

We’re also continuing to monitor the [email protected] email for those who need help with animals in the cold. Supplies donated to help animals in the cold are available outside our Town Lake shelter for those who can get there safely and need them but our transport services will be limited with road conditions. And as staff focus on generator set up and animal care, all nonessential services and appointments will be cancelled today.

We were unable to find a home for Boris, so he will be surrendered to the Austin Animal Center on Friday, Sep 25.

Urgent need for foster/adoption! Boris is a sweet approx. 50 pound hound mix who will make a great addition to an active, child-free home! He had to leave his original home because he because he was aggressive towards a toddler. His current foster is no longer available. Please reach out if you can take Boris into your home! Modest adoption fee requested. If we cannot find someone soon, we will need to surrender him to a shelter.
