Last week Dr. Linda Bolton and her staff at Mullen Small Animal Clinic took amazing care of me and removed my fractured teeth! I was a bit nervous for my dentist appointment, but I am feeling so much better now that those painful teeth are gone. Mom told me to put my teeth under my dog bed and the tooth fairy would visit me. She was right!!

Thanks so much Dr. Linda!!!

Mom and the GBAQT team are back from another spay and neuter project in Onigaming and Whitedog First Nations. They were able to spay and neuter 60 dogs and provide wellness exams and vaccines for 140!

Why is it important to spay or neuter your pets? Aside from controlling the population of stray dogs, intact males are more likely to be aggressive with other dogs and humans, to wander from home, and to develop prostate disease. Intact females are at a much higher risk of developing mammary cancer, can develop an infection of the uterus (pyometra), and can run into complications while giving birth.

The GBAQT team provides their services to the members of these communities for free! If you would like to donate or learn more about the group, check out their website: http://gbaqt.org/

Got to go to work with Mom today, but only cause I found someone's chocolate stash. Chocolate is toxic to dogs depending on how much we eat and what kind it is (cocoa and dark chocolate are the worst). The awesome vets and techs who helped me today gave me apomorphine (a drug that helped me vomit all the chocolate out of my stomach) and activated charcoal. The charcoal was added to some food so that it could trap some of the leftover chocolate in my stomach and prevent it from being absorbed. I am feeling much better and will definitely be staying away from chocolate from now on. If your dog accidentally gets into some chocolate, make sure you take them to the vet right away so they can induce vomiting before it gets absorbed!

Tomorrow is a big day! I will be having surgery to remove my right eye. You can see that I have a cataract, which means that the lens of my eye is cloudy making it very hard to see. To make matters worse, the lens has also become dislocated from it's normal position and has fallen forward. I'm pretty nervous, but I know Dr. Dean and her team will take excellent care of me!

This is my new brother Norman. He's great! Because of my vision I have a hard time going up and down stairs but Norm has been helping me by going ahead of me and showing me the ropes. Thinking of making him my seeing eye dog!

I'm Max, nicknamed "Bannock". I'm a 12 year old Black Lab who was rescued from the Whitefish Bay First Nations Reserve in Northern Ontario. I have a cataract and luxated lens in my right eye and as a result of my partial blindness, I was being picked on by other reserve dogs. If you look closely, you can see the scars on my nose and back. My owners loved me very much and brought me into the GBAQT/OSPA/ Beat the Heat Kenora spay and neuter clinic to discuss how they could end end my suffering. A 2nd year vet student at the Ontario Veterinary College offered to take me home with her where I could relax and retire with the help of her GBAQT team. Follow my retirement adventures in Guelph with my new family!
