Resolution: Implementing a New Bully Assure Point System for Bully Assure Dog Shows in South Africa

Fellow South Africans, today we gather to discuss a pressing issue in the BA dog-showing community. Due to the limited number of BA shows in our SA, our dogs face significant challenges in earning the necessary points to achieve BA championship status. To address this, we propose introducing a new BA point system.

Proponents argue that this system will provide more opportunities for our BA-registered dogs to earn points, increasing their chances of becoming BA champions. Opponents may counter that such a system could lead to diluted competition or unintended consequences.

We would like to invite your opinions and perspectives on this matter. Will a new BA point system effectively support our dogs in achieving BA championship status, or are there alternative solutions to explore? Let the debate begin!"

Dear American Bully Community,

The annual South African Nationals held in Midrand in 2023 by Bully Assure with two international judges and participating dogs from different African countries was a wonderful time to connect and grow as an organization. At Bully Assure it’s always our ambition to grow and learn and certainly this was such a time. Bully Assure planned to host our second annual Nationals during the first half of 2024 however unfortunately our President has been undergoing medical treatments which will last most of 2024. Bully Assure is still fully opperational in this time. Therefore, Bully Assure decided to host a very special dog show in October 2024 in Johannesburg and Cape Town and we hope to see you all there! More exciting details to follow………

The Bully Assure annual South African Nationals will return in 2025 and our plan is to expand on what was achieved and put into practice what we learned from our first Nationals in 2023. Bully Assure fully supports the American Bully Community and have never and will never discriminate against any dog or breeder/owner who is not registered with Bully Assure. All kennels, owners and breeders are welcome to participate equally in our shows and to come enjoy the sanctioned show. The focus of Bully Assure has always been and will always be on the breed.

There is a specific reason for formal registries to sanction dog shows and it’s to serve the stakeholders in a structured and formal environment in order to offer formal recognition for their efforts and mostly to the participating dog. Additionally, in South Africa we have freedom of choice in a free market environment and any person is off-course free to participate in sanctioned shows or unsanctioned independent events as we’ve seen recently. At Bully Assure we do however believe it’s important to highlight that unsanctioned events even if they have some affiliation with an individual overseas, will always be independent events and cannot carry any weight for the participating dogs and their associated owners/kennels in South Africa. This distinction is very important as owners/kennels participating in these unsanctioned events can be left disillusioned in the future.
