Know the breed before you get an Australian Shepherd/ Mini Australian Shepherd AKA Miniature American Shepherd!!!
This is from Renees’s Fosters: Saving Lives One Dog At A Time
If you have ever wondered why it is or was hard to train your Aussie not to nip and why many Aussies don’t have tails these pictures tell the story. They are bred to herd anything from ducks and sheep to large angry cows and bison. They do it with stealth and well timed nips. Not all large livestock are friendly participants.... some are like the customer or client from hell. Some Aussies are born with naturally bobbed tails which comes in handy when trying to prevent painful or catastrophic tail injuries like degloving, paralysis and death. Through early attempts to breed in the naturally bobbed tails the results where also breeding in serious spinal defects making docking the only safe way to prevent tail injures. This isn’t a debate on right or wrong it’s just information on how it became breed standard.
Fun Fact: There is nothing Australian about the Australian Shepherd.... they were made and breed in America 😉
Cute Factor: They are loyal to the bone and love to cuddle 🥰
